PilgrimJWT:
I have a plaque that expresses my feelings about music entirely:

"Bach gave us God’s Word
"Mozart gave us God’s Laughter
"Beethoven gave us God’s Fire

“God gave us music so that we could pray without words”
**I love this Pilgrim!
I’m going to make a little poster of it and hang it near my Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven busts. 😃 **

I play guitar and I have one daughter who plays the flute and piccolo and another who plays the orchestral bells (think smaller version of a xylophone). I wanted to post on your previous thread White Dove as whether you should leave or not but it closed as I was getting ready to post. While the decision is ultimately yours, I would miss you and I don’t think it is egotistical to ask others for counsel in making a decision.
:yup:

I own a banjo, which is not the same thing as knowing how to play a banjo.

I play the radio :rotfl:

I had one of those once! I used to sing with an early music group, and played percussion and psaltery. It was fun!
Yeah, a psaltery is about the limits of my ability. Only need to keep track on one hand, don’t have to worry about chords, just follow the melody line…

Anything more complicated than that is beyond me. 🙂

I play the accordion. I’ve been taking lessons for 2 1/2 years. It’s a lot of fun, even though it’s hard work sometimes.

People always seems to smile when I tell people I play accordion. I don’t know if it’s because it makes them happy or if it’s because they pity me!

I play piano…lv 3 NYSSMA…
I played recorder and was a soloist in a few school shows
I played flute for a while but I quit because it bothered my asthsma too much…I really miss it though
I play acoustic guitar…my fav so far

I play the Viola, but I am quitting for multiple reasons. I am in Highschool, but we have no class, just a meet-on-the-fridays-we-actually-have-afull-day kinda group. so we get about a total of 20 hours together to prepare for 1 concert, in which we humiliate ourselves horibly. i took private lessons for 3 years, but i got tired of my instructor and dumped him. he was waaaayy too negative. and other things come into play… I did play piano, still do, tho its nothin g huge. i just tinker around and play a few things i remember from when i took lessons. so… there you have it.👋 I am also in my HS Varsity Choir, and we are singing the National Anthem at the homecoming football game on Oct. 1. wish us luck!

Singers play the perfect instrument: the voice is created by God, and like fingerprints, no two are identical.

Almost all instruments, in their interpretation of music, strive to imitate the voice. I’ve been a semi-pro singer for many years, much of that spent in the ‘church circuit’. I thank God for my instrument. To me, music is pure emotion. When my heart is at it’s hardest, the Lord reaches through all the sinful murkiness and sets my soul afire again with a piece of music, often just a short phrase or single chord, deftly placed. I often wonder what the choirs of angels in perpetual adoration, singing hosanna, must sound like. Or the voice of our Lord or His mother and St. Joseph.

Sorry!! Couldn’t help it!! My beloved music instructor is a violist… and we crack up over viola jokes all the time.

I played trumpet in high school and college. A while back, a few “musical” colleagues and I formed a dixieland combo and performed for a charity talent show. I also play the piano, but haven’t played much lately. The house I’m moving to next week has a baby grand piano that the former owners left behind, so I’m excited about getting it turned up and relearning to play.

ridesawhitehors, sry bout this, but if another violist with less humor than me could get offended… some of them i don’t care for, but other people might see them as funny, especially if they don’t know what a viola is. Like I said, I am in good humor today. Just think twice about some of those jokes. they were pretty good tho… lol:)

Okie Dokie kramerbaby… just so you will know I’m only poking fun at myself (a cellist) and other musicians… just for the fun of it and so others won’t think we are too nerdy… here are some cello and bass jokes - and like the others, they are clean. Most musicians have a pretty good sense of humor - especially strings.

None; the piano player can do that with his left hand.

How do you make a double bass sound in tune?
Chop it up and make it into a xylophone.

Hey Robert in SD, it’s good to know there’s another Catholic piper out there!Just out of curiosity, do you wear your glengarry or balmoral while playing in church? What if you’re part of a procesion that starts or ends up outdoors? It’s kind of an awkward thing to remove your bonnet while playing! Besides, I’ve seen other uniformed men in church – the Knights of Columbus, or Swiss Guards for that matter – who wear ceremonial headgear in church. What do you think? Does anyone out there know of a canon governing this kind of thing?
