What other forums on the Internet are similar to CAF?

You have a very interesting alternate reality.
… is the kind of remark I’m not going to miss from CAF. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Me too. I’m a big fan of facts and reality! They have both been absent for four years. And the horror of Biden’s nominees so far: not a lobbyist among them. No millionaires. Women! Blacks! the Horror! And look at their credentials: PhD’s! 20-30 years experience in the field! Gosh, now the US will be every other country. What fun is that? I’m going to miss waking up every morning to see young blonde Fox commentators being nominated as ambassador to the UN. I’m going to miss the drama and the fun of playing “Who’s going to be fired next?” Bingo. Truly a sad day.

I definitely can understand why your experience has been largely negative, even with the positives. I’ve had to really evaluate the health of my faith in light of being here – many, many times. Sadly, I really think the healthiest thing for most people here to do would be to cut themselves off of all Catholic forums after December 31. Obviously some won’t do that.

I’m hoping he lasts the whole 4 years.

And people already got annoyed at him on Twitter for asking for donations to fund his transition.

If all else fails I’m a premium member at Delphi and can create a forum for us all there. I host two private ones now for friends and family and can set up another easily if need be. But it looks like the one Adam suggested should work out fine. Time will tell. 🙂

So I guess that means you believe Trump when he keeps repeating that the US has the lowest rate of Covid deaths per number of cases? He’s repeated that over and over. The only problem is that darned reality…in fact the US ranks #109 in deaths/cases, not #1. But hey, why should reality bother Our Supreme Leader?
#SoYou’reSaying…Aliens?

(Have you seriously not noticed that your random political rants, directed towards me, have nothing noticeable to do with anything I’ve said?)

Please understand my meaning. I simply disagree, wholly, with the view that because one or the other candidate won, we’re heading toward a complete rejection of democratic values. I mostly think @(name removed by moderator) is right.
OK, fine, but “democratic values” mean different things to different people — “everybody should be free to advance liberal, progressive values and not advocate hate [sic] or intolerance [ditto]”. Very often, the two latter canards translate into “you speak harshly about things I hold dear, so that makes you a meanie”.

Because of the situation most of all with abortion, and to a lesser extent with other morally-tinged issues (such as “gay marriage”), a faithful, orthodox Catholic in this country today more or less has to be “political” to one extent or another. But you are quite right, threads need to adhere more closely to their original purpose, and this didn’t start out as a political thread.

Now THAT I will not miss. But in my experience, the same thing happens with Catholics on Facebook, Twitter, parish gatherings…

Maybe in an online search they’ll still come up?

The discussions from the old site at this time can be accessed by doing a search here, at least for now. Just type in the username and maybe a keyword and you might find an old conversation you can maybe copy & paste or take a picture of it, or write/highlight notes, etc.

You are dancing around between topics to rant about. First you took the initiative to message me some rambley Biden post (I hadn’t said a word about Biden).

I responded (and repeat) that this kind of nonsense post is the type of thing I’ll be glad to wave goodbye to when CAF closes.

You responded with some rambley anti-Trump post.

I noted that your political comments have nothing to do with what I’ve actually said.

And then you pivot and suggest I’ve said I wasn’t talking to you when I said your posts make me happy to leave CAF?

This thread is about alternate forums to CAF, why is there political talk at all in this thread??

Sorry to jump in randomly, but I just wanted to say that the forum Tis created is going quite well! I think it will work as a good alternative for a lot of the regular CAF members 🙂

If all moderators were volunteers, how much would each person need to give a year to keep CAF afloat. I’d be willing to give €50 per year.

If a quarter of the members gave this, would it be viable then?
There are 226174 users. One quarter of 226194 is 56548. If each such user paid $5 per month that would bring in $282, 740 per month or $3,392,880 annually. That seems like much more than enough to support CAF, but my guess is that the closing of CAF is not just a question of money.
