What other forums on the Internet are similar to CAF?

Yeah that’s why I bookmarked their good stuff in Internet Archive. Their site might disappear. Apparently it wasn’t set up all that well and is unstable as a result. It already vanished once and was somehow salvaged and restored.

Yeah, that seems like a generally wise way of dealing with feelings - sometimes it’s better to just leave things in God’s hands, do what you can and leave it at that.

About Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac, here’s a site explaining it in more detail and what the likely context was: http://www.christian-thinktank.com/qkilisak.html

I like the resources Fish Eaters has put online for stuff like Ember Days and other traditional devotions. I have bookmarked a lot of those pages both on Fish Eaters site and in the Internet archive.

However, when I looked into posting there a few years ago, I very definitely got the impression that there was a lot of interpersonal drama occurring, and that some of the situations were not in accordance with Church teaching, which made me uncomfortable given that it holds itself out as not just Catholic but Traditional Catholic. I stepped away because of that.
Thanks for the info. I seemed to recall that there were some issues regarding FE. I also looked at Suscipe Domine, which as a traditionalist (in most ways) I would not have a problem with, but it wouldn’t be an alternative to CAF — apples and oranges — and I’d rather dig one deep well, than many shallow ones.

Having a son myself, that is not my favorite part of Scripture.
Brings to mind the trolley problem.
Mutatis mutandis, yes, it does.

That is why you need to have a reliable server and make sure the OS, web server, and server software (i.e. Discourse) up to date; or else subscribe to a managed Discourse host like the one you are using, and make sure they are doing all of this maintenance for you. Once your forum takes off, it will get targeted by spammers and hackers and that is where the investment in maintenance, security (and good mods) pays off.

I started responding, but ended up putting my thoughts in a new thread so as to not hijack this one:

Thoughts on the future: please support *multiple* sites Catholic Living
I agree, for many reasons. Web forums do not scale well on a cost efficiency basis. The bigger, the more maintenence. The main advantage of being “big” is that it is easier to get bigger by rising in the search engine ranks, etc. However, there are not enough dedicated web savvy Catholics who would prefer a web forum to alternatives like social media to make a “big” forum viable. This is why CAF is closing. If you are familiar with the concept of the Benedict Option, and the arguments for and…

Is there a way to pm you with a hidden profile, mine is hidden also.

Why does everything become political?

God is being replaced by Government.

Christ by Pilate.

Principle with pragmatism.

Revelation with relativism.

The barque of Saint Peter with a rudderless ship.

“So far, so good!”

I think this is a pity, that the forum is closing down. Living in a secular country with a small Catholic population (10%), it has been interesting conversing with fellow Catholics. I shall consider making an account on Catholic Common Sense.

I have considered FishEaters but I am not able to create an account until I am 18 yrs (according to the rules) which is a little less than a year away. I have seen members there who have said ‘Pope Francis is evil’, and some sedevacantists and sedeprivationists too. Whilst I myself would consider myself a traditional Catholic I am sometimes shocked by the rhetoric on that forum, despite its many good members and excellent articles about the Faith.

I actually prefer an online community that is not a “ghetto” (primarily Catholics only) but is more mixed (mostly Catholics but with the healthy addition of significant # of non- Catholic visitors).

DEM bited me even I voted for them.
GOP also did same if my hair is not blond.
So, I voted for God, and skip the rest.

To be honest, it was a link that was shared with me. Not naming names though, without their permission.

I have started a list of forums here

Working list of alternative Catholic forums and similar media Evangelization
I would like to begin keeping a list of alternative Catholic forums to replace this one due to the impending shutdown of CAF on December 31, 2020. There are no forums that are near substitutes for CAF in terms of the size or volume of posts. This is actually a good thing IMHO. Thus, what follows is a list of smaller forums for your consideration. Take some time to consider supporting one or more of them. Please ensure that additions to this list are in communion with the Holy See. There are m…

Don’t forget the ones that constantly bring up how evil Donald Trump is. Along with the ones that say that the sex abuse crisis is all about celibacy and how if we would just have married priests and women priests things would be perfect. After all, ‘just not lest ye be judged’. . .unless you judge Trump to be evil, then you’re just commended.
