Socialism has never worked. Your solution is most frightening, to say the least.

My solution has nothing to do with socialism. My solution has everything to do with upholding the dignity of the underprivileged who deserve the compassion of others. The privileged have the duty and obligation to help the marginalized.

Capitalism at its heart is expected infinite growth in a finite world. It’s a broken system from the start that marginalizes those who can’t keep up, like the poor and uneducation and minorities.

Sure is where I live
Really? The buildings were built for free? No utilities or maintenance? The teachers don’t get paid? Administrators donate their time? Books and computers are free gifts to the schools?

Tell me more!

There’s no dignity on getting something you didn’t earn that was only given to you because it was taken from someone else.

Those who are underprivileged deserve just as much as everyone else. The rich don’t have some magically better dignity or entitlement because they have money.

But I do not wish to continue a spiral down this rabbit hole

I believe the point is that “no cost to the user” is NOT the same as “free”. Someone, or a large group of someones (e.g. taxpayers), are paying for it, ergo it is not free.

Many agree with you and many don’t. But you should be aware that the use of the word “free” in that context almost invariably gets the sort of response you got - it isn’t really free because it is being paid for, even if not by the end user.

How much does “everyone else” deserve?

No they don’t. They just have the right to a better lifestyle. That’s just how it is.
And my point is, good rich taxpayers should pay for other people’s college
That’s a typical attitude for the generation of greed. “I want what’s mine. And I also want what’s yours.”

I am from an upper class family, I do not qualify for free tuition. So no, I do not “want what’s yours” as you assume. I want those who are not as privileged as me to have the same opportunities I have had. I will gladly pay to help others. This is what Jesus asks of us
They just have the right to a better lifestyle.
They have no such right. Everyone has the same rights to life, liberty, and happiness

Yes, he asks us to help others. To give of your means to others is just and right. To force others to give is vile.

Sure they do. They earned it. They don’t need your permission to have a bigger house or nicer cars. It’s a right.

The unalienable rights you refer to are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Why did you leave those words out? Trying to twist things a bit?

A just wage for a man or woman providing for a family of 4 would be at least 25 dollars an hour in most areas of the US at this point in time
when you factor in employer paid health insurance, workman’s comp, and paid vacation most people are making close o $25 an hour.

I was assuming all of those. 25 dollars an hour is around $50K per year. According to Leo XIII a person should receive a good enough wage to both earn a living for his family and to be able to save money for the future. A family of four, with at least employer health insurance paid would, in most areas of the US, be able to live on that. Not live high, but they would be able to live and save some money.
