What's the craziest Anti-Catholic whopper you've ever heard?

A valid point.
(Stuff deleted in the interest of brevity)
Even good folks followed Hitler - some likely ignorant, others willfully so.
I’m trying not to derail this thread (Edited) but some of the misinformation being circulated about Catholics has to do with the holocaust. I’ve even heard it said that the Pope kept Jews in the ghetto at the Vatican (like keeping animals in a zoo) but turned them over to Hitler when asked nicely.

I’m subscribed to this one particular thread and that’s enough for me. I did appreciate your previous post and found it helpful in understanding where these “whoopers” may have originated.

I had a relative in Stutthof and he was Catholic. Even ONE Catholic killed is a significant number.

(Edited) The Nazis were killing everyone that they thought was genetically defective - not only the Jews. I think the Jews get the major focus because there were 6 million killed, but there were also a lot of Catholics and others killed, as well - Hitler wiped out half the population of Europe, and believe me, they were not all Jewish.

Like how Japan, Hawaii and China used to be part of Australia but when the Crusaders dropped the A-Bomb on the Ottoman Empire they all broke apart?
Yep. Which basically happened as a consequence of King Ashoka and Marcion debating about whether Horus was impaled on a stake or not. The A-Bome incident indirectly led to Phidias founding the Freemasons, who then built the Nazca lines and the Colosseum as part of their gratis building projects. 😉

Well, (Edited) I’m ignorant of history. I have to agree with that because I wasn’t alive at the time and I have to depend on other sources for information some of which conflict with each other.

I agree that most of it is rubbish, I’m just adding more rubbish to the thread. (Edited)

 Why? The Nazis were killing everyone that they thought was genetically defective - not only the Jews. Maybe you should ask someone who is Jewish why it’s insulting when Catholics try to jump on the holocaust bandwagon.

Hey! Are you trying to get hot coals heaped upon my head for derailing this thread?

I have more whoopers. Are you ready for this? The Paleo-Pagans are ready to take back Europe from the Romani (that is what they call Christians) but don’t worry, they don’t plan on doing unto us as we’ve done undo them. The claim is that the church tortured and murdered millions of them.

If it didn’t have just a grain of truth to it I wouldn’t feel so uncomfortable with these claims.

Whenever it is suggested that I look at history more thoroughly I tend to find that the Church has a very checkered past. It’s very disillusioning and disappointing actually.

Jewish people tend to think that the centuries old Christian antisemitism which helped to propagate negative stereotypes of the Jews was a contributing factor leading up to the holocaust.

Bottom line is that it’s just not good to bear false-witness against others and Catholics are just as culpable as anyone else. I know that’s not going to make me very popular around here but there it is. I get slammed for admitting that I’m Catholic on other forums and I get slammed for not being Catholic enough when I’m here. Woe is me.

Nobody is trying to “jump on the holocaust bandwagon” - but if you look at the Saints of the period between 1938 and 1945, almost all of them were killed in the Nazi concentration camps.

The Church is a spiritual entity, perfect in every way, the Bride of Christ.

It may be that some human beings, fallen and flawed, BROKE CHURCH LAW, and committed murder on a vast scale (murder goes against the fifth Commandment), but they don’t represent the Church, even if they are members of the Clergy, when they do things like that - they are simply fallen sinners, who will be judged accordingly on the Last Day.

If you mean European anti-Semitism (which pre-dates Christianity) it probably was; however, you are no doubt aware already that anti-Semitism isn’t integral to Christianity - indeed, any behaviour that devalues the image of God in any human being is against the Church; not for it.

Hi, Cosmian,

Maybe we need to look at the suggestion given to you with more of an open mind - rather than an apparent need to deflect criticism at the Catholic Church.
Whenever it is suggested that I look at history more thoroughly I tend to find that the Church has a very checkered past. It’s very disillusioning and disappointing actually.

May I suggest, Cosmian, that so-called ‘cultural catholicsm’ leaves a lot to be desired - and that is mainly because it holds none of the doctrines of the Faith - only ‘cultural trappings’. Real Faith enables us to see the Church built by Christ on Peter (Matt 16:18) and given the Holy Spirit to guide Christ’s Church until Christ returns in Glory (Acts 2). I have no idea just ‘illusions’ you are holding on to - but, I thinkj if you are going to claim the name of Catholic, you take a good look at the Power of God that has been working in His Church (the Catholic Church ) for almost 2,000 years. No Protestant sect, group, assembly, organization, denominaiton - none of the 20,000+ out there - can make this claim. This is no illusion - and, it is no whopper, either, it is the reality of our Faith as Catholics.

Jewish people tend to think that the centuries old Christian antisemitism which helped to propagate negative stereotypes of the Jews was a contributing factor leading up to the holocaust.

Yes. That is one theory. But, you know there is nothing in the 2,000 teachings of the Catholic Faith that even hints at mass murder as a way of following the Prince of Peace. I submit that those who engage in the murdering of civilians in the name of Nazi Germany were following the Father of Lies.

Bottom line is that it’s just not good to bear false-witness against others and Catholics are just as culpable as anyone else.

I submit that the real Bottom Line is that none of us are perfect and there are Catholics who have fallen short of the mark. May I remind you that Peter not only boasted he would not deny Christ - but, then denied Him three times. Perfection lies on the other side of the curtain. It is something we are to strive for as we follow Christ - and, that is no whopper.

I know that’s not going to make me very popular around here but there it is. I get slammed for admitting that I’m Catholic on other forums and I get slammed for not being Catholic enough when I’m here. Woe is me.
Popularity is not nearly as necessary as accuracy! You have admitted to being a ‘cultural catholic’ and that has yet to be really defined - although, you will not find it as a recognized Rite of the Catholic Church. And, really, being on CAF is not what makes one a Catholic - unless, of course, you are offering this as one of the whoppers this thread is about.

God bless.

arghh! I’ve been edited. If I want whoopers I’ll go to Burger King.

ahahahahaahah!! 🙂

Hi, Bonnie,

There you go … getting all ‘mushy’ on us with this obvious sentimentality… 😃 😉 🙂

But, then again - if you don’t blow the smoke away from this screen, this thread may not get very far.

Actually, unless I have missed something, the biggest whopper I have picked up from this guy is that ‘real’ whoppers don’t exist!

God bless
Didn’t try too hard, did you? Try harder to keep on topic!

Less than 40 whoppers to go before we hit the magic 1000 post mark.
😉

I was once told that the “Catholic Mary” was actually a devil. That one threw me for a loop…
