Rose is Rose…

love it when she gets to transform in her head into that revolutionary spirit… the biker babe!!

gives me hope that I, too, can do that…

😃

Currently, I always read “For Better or For Worse,” “Get Fuzzy,” “B.C.,” and “Dilbert.” I also like “Baby Blues,” but my local paper only carries it on Sundays. As for the dearly departed, you can’t beat “The Far Side.”

Once again today (July 7) B.C. has one of the cavemen walking through an arch at says, “Garden of Eden” and once inside there is a sign that says ‘Weed it and Reap’.

Any thoughts?

P.S. where is the angel with the spinning fiery sword? Gen. 3

I stopped reading the funnies when Calvin and Hobbes retired. It has nothing to do with Calvinism ( ), it just reminded me of me when I was a flighty space-cadet 6 year old.

Calvin and Hobbs (isn’t it obvious?)

Also Bloom County (aka Opus now), Zits, Baby Blues, For Better or For Worse, Adam@Home, and a little one-block cartoon called Real-Life Adventures.

For animateds, nothing beats Bugs and the Looney Tunes gang…although I’ve developed a real appreciation for Rocky and Bullwinkle. Kids just don’t appreciate the puns and plays-on-words.

Calvin and Hobbes has to be one of the all time best.
I also like most of the comics that have been around for a while.

As for cartoons nothing can beat the old Looney Toons and Disney Toons before Disney went down hill.:crying:

When my kids were little, I fell in love with Calvin and Hobbes. In our household they were dead ringers for Jenny and Bunny (dd). I also liked For Better or Worse, as the kids’ ages matched up with my three.
I have always loved Family Circus. My new favorite for single panels is one called “Pluggers”. I guess I am becoming middle aged  ! I even have a “Plugger” thermos at work: a canning jar and lid with milk in it 🙂 !

As far as animated: nothing can beat 1930s-1950s Looney Toons and the same era of MGM’s Tom and Jerry 👍 I still laugh myself silly with kids and grandson when we watch our tapes. Grown daughter is still a huge fan of She-Ra–Princess of Power!
🙂 Margaret Ellen

Bill Keane (The Family Circus) is a practicing Catholic. His comics are always tasteful.

He is originally from Philadelphia, and still supports the (conservative) Archdiocese.

my daughter Qynne likes Spongebob. These threads are great. Making us take a closer look at what is acceptable tv for kids. :yup: 👍

WHAT??? No “Get Fuzzy”-ites here???
Here! 👋

LOVE that strip. It’s always funny. It’s actually the only strip my husband will read. He was so excited the day he found out that there are “Get Fuzzy” collections at the book store.

I also like “Mutts”, “Boondocks”, “Dilbert”, “Foxtrot”, “For Better or For Worse” (been reading that since I was little), “Non Sequitur”, and “Peanuts”.

“Fred Basset,” though I’m fond of many others.

But growing up I always wondered who actually read those soap opera strips like “Mary Worth.” Does those even come oput anymore?

I know even some comics that are NOT totally ‘soap opera based’ have week long running ‘themes’.
For instance, one week, Garfield and a mouse had confrontations that were pretty funny. OR Johnny Hart and B.C. will have several comics in a row with a religious message to them in a week.

Comics:The 2 best now-defunct ones are: Calvin & Hobbes & The Far Side.

i was going to say this exact same thing. maybe it’s because we live close to each other (i’m right across the pa border from youngstown) or maybe we have the best taste.

Cartoons: Yes, we love SpongeBob! And I love the Simpsons, but I would never let *LITTLE * kids watch it.

i (and my wife) love spongebob, and we don’t have kids. the simpsons could be the greatest show ever on television. i also like the family guy and fairly odd parents.
