Sabanes -Oxley and Dodd-Frank were designed to adress these so called problems and were major reasons for the current finacial crisis.

For the record, it wasn’t the banks that demanded to be bailed out, it was the Democrat congress that demanded a “bail-out” package (TARP) under George Bush (which he signed) that got the Tea Party started.

They are like me. I grew up in a Ukrainian Greek Catholic church composed almost exclusively of working class members of unions (UAW, OCAW, etc.). I am 58 years old and have seen the decimation of the American manufacturing infrastructure by an investment community (Wall Street) that would rather sell out to the communist (atheist) Chinese than deal honestly with labor unions. As for socialists-they are there, but as in the greater society, they are a small minority. I am offended by the hostility and vitriole in these posts. I especially question these pictures that have been posted. Where were they taken (indoors)? Facebook? Looks like at set up to me! These kids are scared! Someone posts a personal concern and it is generalized to falsely characterize the reality of a broad based movement. As for the tea party, they shout down any one that does not conform to their VERY NARROW conception of political reality. The Holy Fathers have issued encyclicals about labor, life, war among others. The late John Paul II opposed the Iraq war. We should properly use this forum to discuss how these apply to how we live our lives in the community as practicing Catholic Christians.

What exactly are “working class” people? People who work primarily by using their brains certainly aren’t taking life leisurely. Think as hard as you can all day long, then pretend that your day was easy. Do you want some sort of medal because you work with your hands?

Corporations want more money. Unions want more money. BOTH are groups who want more money. There’s no difference between motivations for either group. It amazes me how many people FAIL to see that they’re motivated by the same desire to provide a better life for their loved ones, yet one gets bastardized in true ignorant fashion for wanting a better life, while the other is lauded as somehow being almost holy. Unbelievable. Commerce via capitalism is what has created wealth for this country. The public education system has truly failed to teach people about the economics of business. Look at it this way: if those talented CEOs had never had a corporation to employ them, they would have likely grown into some of the most talented carpenters, plumbers, craftsmen around to create some stiff competition for you.

If you want to close the borders to trade, then fine, but the American people will need to get used to far more expensive products and services, which drastically decreases buying power, which means people will be buying far less “stuff.” I’m cool with that.

Theoretically, I can make a stronger argument that the Church would rather save the truly starving Chinese who “need” the money for survival more than the false starving obese Americans, if you want to get technical.

Instead of being offended by the Truth and your very narrow view of reality, you should pick up a book and educate yourself so that you do not continue to languish and wallow in your own ignorance. Facts, not feelings.

What abut the people lobbying for TARP? WHo paid them?
At the end of the day everbody’s hands are dirty regardless of party affiliation as long as corporation’s play such a pervasive role in our law making process.
 
I dont understand how either of those acts did anything to rectify corporate behavior. I dont think anything could be done in order to address those problems without serious campaign finance reform. Also we are still waiting for the initial impact of Dodd Frank, no one really knows how some of the regulation will be implemented.
There are other big question marks: Regulators have yet to detail new rules reining in derivatives, credit rating agencies and nonbanking financial firms that played a role in the financial crisis that crippled the U.S. economy.
Even if regulators come out with new rules, Republicans in Congress have balked at funding those agencies, which have not been able to beef up enforcement teams that would go after rule-breakers.

Not true, in fact you can buy American for the same price as anywhere else. Quality becomes another issue. You want to play Gibson/Fender guitars for example or own top-quality US manufactured items such as weapons, yes you have to pay for the craftsmanship.

Listen the import/export trade started with Japan, They provided a cheaper product which we had no time to build. That has now become China. Its not a mystery to build inferior products. Its a craft to build superior. 🤷 We can hire high school drop outs all day long here for minimum wage and build a cheap so-so product. You want the best you simply have to pay for it. Would you rather use a junk AK-47 or a Colt? Carriage cage Detroit autos are very competitive. How are you saving buying a Lexus or Merc.?

You misunderstand this situation and the dynamics of manufacturing. And yes we have gone off track with promotong the import/export to the point were we are putting ourself out of business. Supply and Demand is all it is. And at each price level.🤷

The church is “underground” in China and persecuted so I fail that logic also.

The issue isn’t working class, its the middle class regardless of working with your hands or behind a desk. The weight falls on this class, and always has. Do you have an effective way to tax the rich? By large no-one has been able to:shrug: The botom line is the middle class is out of work because of manufacturing X import/export. When manufacturing and the trades are in decline then who do you suppose is hit next? Not hard to figure out. Its certainly not the wealthy.

Labor Unions is an issue. And when the economy is on the rise thats fine. Today its not on option. They simply let you go and hire another qualified, and yes they can do that. 🤷

Theerin lies the problem -the acts were huge burdens on business causing massive costs and disrution and now we are told "its not “enough”

The initial impact of Dodd frank was to increase banking fees for consumers.

Sorry but the AK47 is anything but junk. In fact it has put the much more expensive Colt AR15 to shame many times. The AK47 is world reknown for being reliable in the wost extreme enviroments, an issue that the AR15 still hasn’t conquered after 50 years of developement. Even today its not uncommon to see our troops carry an AK instead of their army issue M4 Colt.

I would take an M4 retrofitted with the new 6.8mm cartridge over the AK any day. The AK is as tough as a mule, but it is notoriously inaccurate. The M4 in the hands of …well…ME, can put a round through a fly’s head at 200 yards…but then again I can do that with a M1 Garand with iron sights…
