ishii:
Of course Israel does not equal the Jews (spare me the condescension please). But many Jew haters hide behind the banner of anti-Zionism and many of them are leftists. Notice I didn’t say all of the left hates the Jews. In general, the left is opposed to the Jews. Recently, there has been opposition to Israel in the name of anti-colonialism. Here is an excerpt from an article I found interesting.
It is at the farthest reaches of the Left, where there is a fixation with the Palestinians, that we find the brashest expressions of anti- Semitism. Among the mosaic of groups that compose the “antiglobalization” movement, as well as among the remnants of the New Left, anti-Semitic rhetoric and symbolism is rife. The UN World Conference against Racism in Durban in September 2001, the conferences organized by the World Social Forum in India and Brazil, and the marches in several European cities against the U.S.- led intervention in Iraq are all examples of public events where Jews have been actively denigrated. Such displays have commonly been presented as manifestations of the “new anti-Semitism,” generally dated back to September 2000, when the second Palestinian intifada began. Decidedly, this “new” anti-Semitism, which would deny self-determination to the Jews even as it celebrates this principle for other nationalities, is driven by the Left, and not the Right. Even so, it is far from new.6
Oh give me a break ishii. I could scour under every rock in my campus, interview hundreds of leftists before I would find one that wants to deny Israel statehood. That is an extremist position. Virtually all ‘leftists’ want a two state solution. Only people who get their information from political blogs might be mislead into thinking that they all want to abolish Israel. They are not hiding anything. Many of the people I know who criticize Israel’s policies toward the Palestinians are Jews themselves. Oh, that’s right, they must be self-hating Jews, right?
I imagine I must be an anti-Semite as well, because I want the settlements to stop expanding. After all, to deny Israel’s God-given right to all the land between the Jordan and the Mediterranean is an anti-Semite II presume. Funny, you know, because you probably complain about liberals calling conservatives racists all the time. And yet, everyone who isn’t a Likudnik and occasionally fancies that an Arab is just as much a person as a Jew is, what? A racist!
And I suppose most Jews then, being on the left, are self-hating Jews? Now conservative gentiles are the authority on deciding who is or is not a good Jew? Interesting.
Oh, did you think that since I made the generalization that the far left is anti-Jewish that all those on the left is anti-Jewish? If you see the Jews as convincing proof of the Divine working in our world (indeed the existence of the divine) then it makes total sense for the atheist left to resent and hate the Jews. The pervasive trend on college campuses is that of solidarity with Palestine, and a profound distrust with “wall street”. The cause celeb on college campuses is anti-Israel and anti-neocon (code words for anti-Jew). There was a young girl who went to protest Israel and ended up getting bull-dozed by the Israelis. What do you think caused her to do such a thing? Its obvious that her college professor (the leftists at Evergreen State U.) inspired her.
Now this is just insane. She got bulldozed by the Israelis, and you’re blaming her college professor? That, you have to realize, is moral idiocy. Come on! The person who performs the act is the one responsible for it, or at the very least, the one most responsible for it. I’m guessing you think that an Israeli pilot who drops a bomb that kills a dozen civilians to nab one suspected terrorist is completely innocent; no, it’s Hamas that provoked him to do it. No, people have a choice in how they respond, they are not mere functions of their environments.
And opposition to neoconservatism is not anti-Semitism. That is ridiculous. Neo-conservatism a foreign policy ideology that favors intervention in foreign conflicts that use of military force , and many people call themselves neo-conservatives. Are you honestly saying that to criticize the Iraq War, or to criticize American support of the Saudi regime, is anti-Semitic, because I the neo-conservative agenda supports it, it is therefore Jewish, and to criticize it is anti-Semitic? Seriously, why don’t you try using logic for a change. Equating neo-conservatives with Jews is just nonsense. Most neo-conservatives are not Jews, and most Jews are not neo-conservatives.
And your generalization itself was wrong. Maybe, again, if you actually knew some of the people you’re libeling, you would see the ridiculousness of it. The overwhelming majority of the ‘leftists’ I know are not remotely anti-Semitic. Stop getting you information from right-wing blogs. How many of these so-called leftists do you actually know, that warrants you to make these generalizations?
And of course, anyone who cares for the welfare of the Palestinians is also an anti-Semite. Got it. They’re unpersons undeserving of sympathy or help. I suppose people who want to fight AIDS in the Conngo are Afro-centrists too then?
