Is this really the 30 year anniversary already? I guess it makes sense, since Skyward Sword was an anniversary game I think. They seem to release on 5 year cycles. Wii U Zelda in 2016, Skyward Sword in 2011, Twilight Princess in 2006.
Wow, it’s been 5 years since Skyward Sword came out??? Felt like I just bought it.

I think Star Fox Zero should be really good. The last Starfox game was released about 9 or 10 years ago I believe. For some reason Starfox is one of the only games that my sister has any interest in, which is one of the main reasons why I would like to pick it up. There’s also that Pokemon-Tekken hybrid that will be coming out in July. I still only have Smash Bros. and Hyrule Warriors for Wii U and I have had the thing for almost a year now, so it will be good to get more use out of it. I would be thrilled if Square-Enix decided to release Kingdom Hearts III on Wii U because I have no interest in getting a PS4/XBox One, but that doesn’t look likely unfortunately.

I’ve heard a lot of positive things about Splatoon so I’ll have to check it out in the future :D. Did you ever pick up that Mario Maker game? I was wondering if that’s any fun. It was probably a smart idea on Nintendo’s part since it probably has incredible replay value due to people always inventing new levels.
I definitely recommend Splatoon. I have long loved the Mario Kart games and the Smash Bros. games, but I have been playing Splatoon a lot more than both of those put together on the Wii U.

I did pick up Mario Maker. It is pretty cool, though I haven’t played it as much as I thought I would (probably because I still spend most of my gaming time on Splatoon :o). There are some super creative levels out there, and then there’s a lot of garbage levels, too. There is a ranking system, which helps, but isn’t always the best measure of the worth of a level. The level my daughter threw together in five minutes where you basically just run to the flag pole has earned more stars than most of my other levels, some of which I spent a lot of time designing. It is neat to be able to share levels back and forth with my brother. I believe Nintendo created a website to make it easier for people to find good levels and then add them to a “play list” so you can play them the next time you’re on your Wii U. I haven’t tried that yet, but it would probably be an easier way to find good levels. Once you find a few good designers, you can “follow” them and see their latest levels. Nintendo is continuing to add levels of their own, too. There have already been several million levels uploaded. So there is never a shortage of stages to play!

Do you like Hyrule Warriors? I actually haven’t picked that one up because I associated it more with Dynasty Warriors than with Zelda. It keeps calling to me, though. :o I keep waiting for it to go on sale, which I’ve yet to see it do.

Nice, that does sound interesting. I also saw that you can create levels from different generations of Mario in Mario Maker, which was a cool twist.

I do like Hyrule Warriors a lot. I have never played a Dynasty Warriors game before this, so the gameplay was new. It basically involves playing as a Zelda character (there’s at least 20 different playable characters with all the DLC) who is the commander of the “allied” forces and you’re trying to accomplish some mission against the enemy forces which usually involves some combination of defeating enemy commanders or capturing enemy bases. The characters have ridiculously overpowered attacks that easily blow the hordes of grunts around, so you’ll be fighting Gohma in a massive horde of those skeleton children from OoT and they just kind of ignore you as Gohma’s eye laser pops them around as she tries to hit you. They have at least a bajillion missions with all the maps, so the gameplay is highly repetitive but for some odd reason doesn’t really get boring. I only stopped playing because the later maps require having the characters at very high levels to be able to be competitive with the difficulty of the enemies and I was tired of grinding. It’s fun to play as all the different characters though. Midna is my favorite character. It’s fun to smash the Gibdo commanders around with her ponytail fist. They just released a 3DS version of the game and they added Windwaker characters, which they didn’t have in the Wii U version, so I’m hoping they add another DLC pack for Wii U eventually. Windwaker was noticeably absent from the Wii U version, although Zelda did have the Windwaker as one of her weapons, which was cool, although the Dominion Rod from TP was cooler. And it’s two player, which probably makes it even more fun.

:hmmm: You are wearing down my resolve. I may have to get that game now. 😛

Current slew of games (most of which I bought during the recent Steam sale):

Already beat Prospekt, the just-released fan-made sequel to Half-Life: Opposing Force. It’s adequately entertaining—good for a new developer’s first-time effort, but mediocre by Valve’s standards. Dialogue-wise, it’s also more vulgar than what you’d expect from Half-Life. It’s worth a playthrough, but not for ten dollars.

Also playing through the first old school Tomb Raider; I’m actually impressed with the fluid animation for its time, and I now see where the Prince of Persia gets his acrobatics.

Finally, I’ve just begun playing CS:GO and the original Deus Ex, the latter of which I bought for its innovation for its time, but I can’t even get past the first level on normal.

On the subject of Half-Life, I always thought it’d be interesting if there were a game where you played as a Metro Cop.

I bought Zestiria recently, and I also bought Arc Rise Fantasia, a JRPG for the Wii. Not sure how long it will be before I will sit down to really play them. Could be next week. Could be in a few months. Decisions, decisions. I have several other games to consider playing as well. Trying to figure out what game(s) I want to focus my effort on.

Started a fantasy JRPG, Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. Very similar to Persona 3 & 4, minus the occultism and obnoxious music.

Does anyone know or have played the game That Dragon, Cancer?

I’ve read in the article and in several reviews that the creator’s devout Christian faith is put at center stage in this game, and in a beautiful way too in expressing how their faith addressed the challenges they faced when their son had cancer.

This kind of treatment of Christianity from a video game is rare. 🙂

Apparently we’ve got Pokemon Sun and Moon coming up, for Gen VII perhaps.

Well, there’s Blue Shift, the one where we play as Barney who ends up going undercover as a Metro Cop…if that’s close enough.

On another topic, I’d studied philosophy, I could have realized sooner how Half-Life 2 is like a Nietzschean gospel narrative: gamingwithfaith.wordpress.com/2016/02/24/half-life-2/

I hope to buy it when it’s on sale.

Not quite, but I would like to play Blue Shift. I’ve played Opposing Force before, and I enjoy that game.
