So what do you propose to solve that?
Prison is supposed to be for rehabilitation.
Sadly it just makes money for all the wrong people and we use it as a dumping ground for people we don’t want to deal with.
How about we focus on actual rehabilitation sentences and services that reflect the needs of our people.
Throwing the book supposedly acts as a deterrent.
It doesn’t for a number of reasons primarily desperate people don’t care.

Judges that will have to be confirmed by the Senate. Judges cannot campaign on how they will vote on specific questions.
One looks at their judging history. It is not a guarantee but an indicator if they will go with the constitution, precedent or are activists.

Yes I would agree with prison reform.

I find Norway a fascinating example since they have a lower crime rate than we do and less harsh sentences. I think the most time you can serve in prison is like 21 years.

What law was created to target those of a specific skin color. Cite me the law.
Not to butt in but the drug war, for one. At least it disproportionately affected different communities. I believe some of the figures behind it later said it was racially motivated.

Which isn’t even to mention the Contras and the CIA.

How many have the First Step Act freed? Do you know?

You are aware Biden supported this and made some very interesting comments regarding these laws.

Oh of course. I don’t think anyone familiar with my posts is going to accuse me of covering for Biden.

What number do you support? Do they need a sponsor? Do they have to be contributors to American society? Can they be felons from another country?
Not the point.

You said Trump is for legal immigration, but when it’s been reduced by half already you have to wonder if he’s really for immigration at all. He’s already said we’re full.

“Our country is full, our area is full, the sector is full,” Trump added. “We can’t take any more. Sorry. Can’t have it. So turn around. That’s the way it is.”

The legal immigrants have to have jobs available. I do not support immigrating to America to receive free benefits. When US unemployment goes down, demand goes up. Adjust accordingly.

Anything else is an open border policy that working people have to fund, unless they are ineligible for any benefits and the sponsor supports them. Also, it is not just benefits, they use services too.

I welcome you suggestions as to how to handle. We can start with - should there be any non-qualifying behaviors that a person could not legally immigrate?

If I created a law that said “it’s criminal to eat fish on Fridays.” You’d claim I was targeting Catholics except I didn’t mention Catholics once and no one is compelling you (including the church) to eat fish.

So I can’t cite you the law because you question is flawed. You should be asking “what laws effect people of colour more then white.”

You have to show targeting because of color not of a crime hotspot.

Areas of high crime attract more police presence and the citizenry support that.

Take South Chicago - sending more police into the area resulting in more arrests is racial targeting?

Should we soften laws just because a specific group commits more of them? How is that just? A crime is crime no matter who does it.

Before that is answered with something such as felons are prohibited, a rating on the current home country must be made. Not all criminal justice systems are equal.

I think available is the key. I think it’s stupid to send foreign graduates of US colleges back home immediate after they graduate, especially those with advanced degrees. Why send them home to compete with us from afar? They should be encouraged to stay with easily obtained visas.

I think we can handle a certain number of refugees, but in general agree with this, other than the open border comment. I’ll deny it if you ever say I said this, but, yes, I agree that, in general, people should not come here to be wards of the state.

Agree, a rating system should be in order, but based on the US standard of what we will allow.

Advanced degrees - right now the highest paid are advanced degrees and they are moslty foreigners.

But why would you be making a law against fish on Friday? Is there a reason for the law, other than targeting a certain group?

If we make a law against, say, wearing one’s pants hanging low, would it seem to target Blacks? Is there any other reason for the law other than targeting Blacks? Public decency, hygiene in public places?
Our nation did have laws that targeted Blacks for many years I’m sure. Do we now though?

There are already decency laws for public appearance. Modifying them to include acts/appearances that no one thought could ever happen when the original laws were written is not racial. Thongs for example were never thought as being an issue. Then they were and in some places are not allowed.

If a specific group is the perpetrators then yes it would seem the group has been targeted, but it is their responsibility.
