Why do people on CAF seem to think liberals are evil?

I’m leaning towards abortion is acceptable while the organism is still an embryo

So are you disagreeing with the Church’s teaching that we should treat all human life as human from the moment of conception, as expressed in CCC 2270-2271, 2273-2274, 2319, and 2322-2323?

See? I can’t stomach that.

“Sorry, kiddo. You just don’t look or act human enough.”

That arbitrary. Subjective. And used to kill people. 😦

The closer they are to childbirth, the more human characteristics they have. Terminating a pregnancy at three weeks is not the same as terminating at the last few weeks up to the birth.
So now you’re equating humanity to appearance? Is someone less human because they look less human, for example like they are missing an arm or a leg?

No it is not the same as being amputee. Like I stated earlier if they have no consciousness, no brain activity, heartbeat ,etc I don’t understand how they are supposedly a person

It seems strange to grant full personhood at conception when the embryo has no consciousness, heartbeat, no brain. That’s not the same as a fetus in it’s third trimester.

I think it is important all citizens share a common language. I also think because of the growing Hispanic population in some areas of the USA there should be more dual language emersion programs to meet the needs of the influx of immigrants

Y’all, we clearly aren’t going to convince jump4joy to change her mind in this thread about something that is more a matter of the heart.

@Jump4Joy may I “prescribe” a few things?
  1. If anyone in your life has a baby, the newer the better, go hold them, smell their little head. Look into their wonder-filled eyes and visualize the amazing journey of development they were on in the safety of their mother’s womb.
  2. Look up Abby Johnson. Read her book or follow her on facebook. She was the director of a Planned Parenthood who had a major conversion. Her ministry is so compassionate to babies, to women, to former abortionists even. I ❤️ her.
  3. If somehow we strangers have missed a giant clue somewhere that you yourself have been harmed by abortion, Project Rachel can help with healing and fellowship with women who hurt just the same.

“Personhood” isn’t scientific. It’s based on both philosophy and religion. My philosophy and religion both confer basic human rights to others regardless of their size or appearance.

As for science, the brain and heartbeat are around before the third trimester.

I mostly started this thread because I was interested in why abortion is an issue that receives so much sympathy. Any other issue on here seems to lack such concern. I don’t understand. Start a topic about gun violence, immigration, race, it’s interesting to see how the sensitivity meter changes.

I

Im not for abortion, I’m more annoyed by the reactions I receive on other topics. Why is abortion or an embryo so precious but the ripping apart of families is not? These are actually living people. Any issue about gun violence turns into one about gun control. It seems like people’s right to bear arms is more important than the massacre at times.

What’s so precious about an embryo?
Why defend the right to life? In other areas, these same so called Christians show little to no compassion for the living

They’re all horrible. They’re human rights violations. I can’t speak for others, but I’ve been pretty consistent about this. I’ve spent more time on CAF discussing immigration than abortion.

That said, the emphasis on abortion is so pronounced because it’s the one human rights violation continually being denied. Nobody is saying:

“Well, it’s my right and my choice to traffic children. Besides, they’re small and not as smart as adults, so it’s OK. You may think it’s wrong to traffic children, but you need to stop imposing your morality on others.”

So go throw yourself compassionately into charitable work for those causes dear to you. We are all called to different ministries.

You are getting backlash on your posts because they sometimes contain blanket accusations that leave people like myself a little bit riled up. A lot of us care about ALL of those things and you keep coming back to tell us we don’t.

So, essentially, the right to life is determined by level of development relative to others? Following that logic, we can kill people with Down Syndrome or Autism

In the end of the day, the embryo is living within the woman. It is her choice. it would be a different issue if the embryo didn’t grow in the womb. What do you mean it is a human rights violation that is denied?
I want to hear alternatives to preventing abortions.
Will women be criminalized for having one? What about the doctors who perform one?

This.

If you don’t have all of your questions settled about abortion, go focus on where God is calling you. Volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul or help Catholic Charities campaign for SNAP funding.
