Why do people on CAF seem to think liberals are evil?

Christ said that I kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. I agree! What baffles me is the fact that Americans are so divided to the extent that Democrats and Republicans are intensely belligerent to each other, yet we as a nation over the past 150 years or so are thriving like never before in human history! This leads me to believe that at the higher echelons of government, there must exists great unity between the political parties. Are we the common public being duped by the media?

Identity politics. Just don’t play the game. You’ll be fine.

No there isn’t. We have folk here that weigh in on both sides to these two issues and more, believe me!

Compared to where I live or the opinions I normally here, people here seem overwhelmingly more conservative, more against gun control and less believing of climate change.

Why do you feel the democratic party is hostile towards Christians?
Aside from the fact that the democrat base supports all of the non-negotiables (SSM, abortion, euthanasia, etc.)- which means that they’re opposed to Christian morality- the party leadership (and many, if not most, of the party members themselves) is openly hostile to the Faith. For example, some politicians have said that we, as Christians, need to “get with the times” (I think Hillary said this). What that means to them, is that we need to sacrifice what we believe in and instead believe what they want us to. Second, most democrats seem to support the idea that Christians should be forced to participate in events we find immoral- and they’ll use the government to either make us or impoverish us. And then there’s the fact that Christians are constantly demonized by the people who make up the party. They accuse us of “intolerance” on a daily basis, and they attach the term “Christian” to a series of “undesirable” attributes- “right-wing”, “nut-job”, etc. I could go on.

Well you have to admit it is a little refreshing, change of pace. I walk out my door and I am evil because I support Trump. I breathe and I am an intolerant bigot because I support legal immigration and do not support illegal immigration. Worse than a prochoicer in the communion line. If I am Irish I am a hate mongering bigot if I am prolife, ditto American or British, etc.

Why does the government have to uphold Christian morality? I don’t see why the government is even involved in issues like euthanasia, abortion, SSM.
I’ve always thought a secular government would be better suited for a multicultural society likes we are.

You just took a giant leap. We’re talking about individual parties, not the government as a whole.

Why is it important in a multicultural society that the government upholds Christian morality? What’s wrong with a more secular government founded on secular humanism?

The Church is apolitical - or at least should be. As to liberal/conservative, I assure you that you have it at least partially backward. I have come from ultra-right to as close to the center as I can get. Conservatism has been traditionally vilified by the left , i.e. Al Gore calling them the “extra chromosome right wing” - well that term describes children and adults with Down Syndrome. Nice, huh?

Yet, one cannot claim to be Catholic if one’s beliefs differ substantially. They simply cannot. Therefore, I have abandoned all beliefs that conflicted with Doctrine. Period. I am trying to be the best example that I can. In areas of prudential judgment, do I lean right? Of course.

To generalize: I think liberals use their hearts more than their heads and that conservatives use their heads more than their hearts. Generally I said. We must not drive a wedge between believers - the world is doing that fairly well.

However, a sobering quote from Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen:
“There are two kinds of ‘atheism’: the atheism of the right, which
professes to love God and ignores neighbor; and the atheism of the left,
which professes to love neighbor and ignores God.”
  • Archbishop Fulton Sheen (Those Mysterious Priests).

Why do say the one party is more emotional than the other? I think conservatives vilify liberals just as much. It depends on who is the majority. I do not seem to think the conservative stance is the right one in all aspects. Is that what it means to be a true Catholic? I thought we’re allowed to a diverse set of beliefs.

No. I’m not. How am I ignoring you? I listened to what you wrote.

You are. You asked me why I thought democrats were hostile to Christians- I answered, and you’ve ignored my answer and started asking me about the entire government.

Nah
Probably just us usual combatants.
I could tell you who’s an evil liberal around here, but more fun if you find out on your own.
😛😝

What response do you want from me? I read what you had to say. Now I wanted to ask a question. I understand why you think the Democratic party is hostile towards Christians.
