Why doesn't God heal homosexuals?

Hmm by miraculous I mean complete. I read about two cures but they were Protestant and I don’t know how credible the witnesses are. I’ve only come across people praying and getting better for a while, though the inclination comes back. I’ve also read about people who lead a homosexual life who ended up getting married to the opposite sex and having children. Then again I don’t know if they still struggle with SSA. so yes, by miraculous cure I mean complete removal of inclination to the point it is considered normal. And by that I mean the normal level of temptation such that one can function like they were fully engaged by heterosexual attractions. I keep saying normal because I still think homosexual temptations are fairly common. Heck, all my friends have SSA but non of them engage in homosexual behaviour. That only goes to say that some level of SSA can be considered universal. Not saying it’s not sinful, just saying it’s common.

Homosexuals - over some period of time - have trained themselves to be attracted in a disordered fashion
Every time you talk about “homosexuals”, I figure what you’re saying applies to me, since I’m attracted to men. Sure, I’m attracted to women too, but your judgments about homosexual attraction being wrong would apply equally to people attracted to both men and women. Being exclusively same-sex attracted is not the fault of the individual who experiences such attraction.

See you are twisting my words. The quote did not explicitly say that homosexuality is genetically linked. So, I said if you interpret that quote to mean that it does say that homosexuality is genetically linked I believe that to be a false conclusion based on other evidence that I have provided.

All your friends? Why do you think they have all eschewed sexual activity?

No. I am not referring to you at all. I really don’t want to open up all that.

This subject is best covered at the principles/concepts level, and not turn it into some personal thing. Too much defensiveness and emotion etc…clouds the intellect.

There’s nothing to twist, you deny any genetic aspect to homosexuality. So again, if i show you a quote from the paper that you cited, that identifies a genetic aspect then would you be wrong? Or are we just going to play word salad games about kansas?

The culture! All of us are exposed to the same TV. I’ve heard so many girls in my own class saying what I considered to be SSA. And I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s more common that I thought, and is nothing but a temptation. Full blown homosexuality may be considered a mental illness, but the degree of SSA I came across in others seemed to be more due to lack of moral upbringing that anything else. My SSA has probably had to do more with me being exposed to pornographic images as a child rather than be being that way. I can say that SSA at least in my case is entirely psychological. There was an inclination that was inherent, true, but don’t all of us get crazy ideas and passions once in a while?

I would suggest that you consider whether you simply don’t want to think about the real human beings involved, and our experience. Please prayerfully consider this.

If we were discussing racism, I have a hard time believing you would think that it was inadmissible for a person to mention that they were black.

Cookie, I fully endorse your suggestion that SSA is just a normal temptation that people experience, and that homosexual activity is another thing entirely.

I’m not gonna follow this post any more lol, but before I leave, I’d like to point out to some material on Catholic Answers which was taken from the Early Church. It’s about how one Church Father condemns pederasty (hope I’m spelling it right) which is the running of little boys when they were infants or something. Those children definitely grow up to be homosexual. It was considered a noble to thing to do that to slave children. So atleast in their culture we can be sure it’s because of the environment. I’m not very sure but weren’t the Greeks homosexual? Now I would like to find out how many percentage in a community were. If homosexuality was more prevalent, either there’s something genetically wrong or most probably they accepted that kinda culture and gave in.
isn’t there a MS here? He/she is right. If someone claims homosexuality is genetic, that means there’s something wrong with a protein’s function. That means that our entire sexuality is determined by a single protein, which is an absurd conclusion.

  1. You understand that 1 the study that you gave favored environment as the leading factor right?
  2. You understand that the other study that did a more accurate test, reducing environment, showed a 0% genetic correlation in women and 2% in men (both statistically insignificant)?

This is a good point, though it needs clarification. A large number of Greek and Roman men (surely over 25%) found it normal to find boys from ages 13 or so to age 20 attractive. There were pederastic relationships that often (but not always) were sexual. Since so many men experienced this attraction, it seems clear that the attraction must be biologically normal in some sense – at least as a “normal variant”.

Perhaps this just tells us how very socially pliable human attraction is?

The Church was heroic in putting a stop to the practice of pederasty.

So just to be clear, you read the study and there’s nothing in it that acknowledges a genetic factor? Nothing at all?

Again, you bought up both studies and dismissed another that @thebutler introduced as “unscientific” despite the fact that the second paper doesn’t even claim to be a scientifically valid sample size.

Of course I was generalizing, the protein may affect an entire pathway, or may have some kind a cascade effect, but genes code for proteins and well you get the point. It’s crazy.

The sex life of most homosexuals is very different from most heteros…more partners, shorter hookups, rest area pickups along highways, it’s really all over the map.
So there are a lot of lesbians picking up at rest areas?

What you’ve described is a stereotype of gay men as if straight men don’t have as many partners or pickups.

What about the fact that the next generation grew up in the same environment? What about the children of those who became Christian (thereby switching their lifestyle and environment)? And their children? What about the female population? I think St. Paul hints that there were lesbians too. No it’s not biological. I don’t believe it à bit.

It’s a true stereotype, Bruised. Statistics support it. But like all stereotypes, one should not judge the individual based on the stereotype of the group.

(But yeah, lesbians aren’t the same!)

I think we’re talking past each other. When I say that it’s a normal biological variant, I just mean that lots of men and women are biologically capable of homosexual attraction.

Unless the population was exposed to substances that have a tératogène effect.
