Why is the Catholic Church hated so much?

I’m not TEACHING anything. I am using Scripture to make a point. If you don’t rely on Scripture alone, that’s fine with me. I won’t call you a Sola Scriptura hater. I am on this site because the original question, “Why is the Catholic Church hated so much?”, piqued my interest. Especially since I was born and raised in the Catholic church. I now study Catholicism, I visit Catholic sites frequently, I watch EWTN, I read books written by Catholics, I read the newspapers with stories about Catholic priests/bishops/cardinals, I read about Pope Benedict wanting a one-world financial and political government, I have read the “New St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism”, I read the Catholic tenets and I look back on my life as a Catholic (gradaes 1 - 12 AND 2 years of nursing school…I am a man, not a woman) and I see things that I don’t agree with.
On October 18, 2009 I was struck down in my living room and acknowledged Jesus Christ as my Lord & Savior. Since that time I have read the Bible EVERY day (I can’t put it down!!) and I’ve learned of God’s unmerrited grace, the cleansing power of my sin because of Jesus’ blood, and I know that by faith I am saved through grace!! I truly don’t hate anyone, but I do want to share Christ in the way He commands in Matthew 28:16-20.
It sounds to me like you have had an awakening of your Baptismal and Confirmational graces. It sounds like God is calling you into a more deeper relationship with him and is calling you home to His Church, the Catholic Church. His arms are open wide.
It is good to read the Bible everyday but don’t land on your own interpretation. The Bible even warns against that in Proverbs 3:5. Pray and ask God to lead you. Here is a prayer, I prayed when I was trying to follow scripture alone. And because doing that made me feel, and I am sure you feel and many others feel, confused. St. Francis prayed this prayer before a crucifix in San Damiano. It is a beautiful and inspiring story, you should read it.

Most High, glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of my heart
and give me true faith,
certain hope and perfect charity,
sense and knowledge, Lord,
that I may carry out
Your holy and true command.

Truly ask God to enlighten your understanding.

Well, stop being sarcastic with Scripture and study it instead. I mean, even though you don’t THINK it’s the inerrant, infallable Word of God, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t. How about showing it the respect that it deserves?
Who says Catholics don’t? You’re the one not showing respect for Sacred Scripture by ripping out verses that YOU think verify your position.

And our Good and Gracious Father, God wanted priests to NOT face the congregation during Mass? Is that how Jesus taught?
The Mass is a prayer, not a ‘service’. The priest faces God as does the congregation, not “away” from the people.
How could you have been an altar boy. at the age you are claiming and not know that?

Please read the following Scripture verses:
Romans 6:10;
Hebrews 7:27;
Hebrews 9:12, 26;
Hebrews 10:1 - 10

I was an altar boy and went to Catholic church for 3 decades!! I’ve even attended Catholic funeral services and Christmas Mass recently. I know what’s going on at Mass. But thanks anyway.
We could quote Bible verses back and forth all day. It doesn’t matter because you are just wanting me to take your interpretation. I could read them and come up with a different interpretation than you. That is why I read the scripture now under the guidance of the Catholic church.

I will keep you in my prayers and know that God is leading you. Who knows what great plans he has in store for you.

Ask yourself this question: What gets attacked the most and at such intensity, the truth or a lie?

In order to understand the ancient world, we have to step out of our comfort zones and walk in their shoes.
Many times that means accepting things our age rejects. Other times we can see how fragile our ‘modern’ society is. Without our gagets and toys, we are no different than they were. Even in parts of the world today family structure is the bedrock of the culture. Things like covenants still exist in what we so arrogantly call the ‘third world’. African and native American tribes had no written language, yet they were steeped in the history of thier culture far more than our so-called ‘enlightened’ society.
I say all this because I suspect you are looking at these ancient people, as I used to, through 21st century western eyes. That is a grave error. Because we are far from being superior.
Not everything was ‘on paper’. It was timely and sometimes expensive to do that. It was a society far more steeped in oral tradition, and that included pagan societies as well. They had great auditory skills in those days. Communication was by listening. Even when something was put on paper. it was read ALOUD. Reading to oneself was unknown.
I would suggest you study history before you try to label yourself an expert.
What are you talking about? I am giving all the glory to GOD!!
Jesus commands His disciples in Matthew 28:19-20,
"Therefore go and make disciples of ALL NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
This had NOTHING to do with them and their ‘expertise’, it had to do with the Will of God!

As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, we are disciples and we are to obey His command.

Could you ellaborate with some examples?
All that I am doing is using Scripture to glorify God.
Again, I didn’t say that Catholics don’t read the bible, I ASKED if they don’t.
Please pay attention.

The priest ‘faces’ God?
Uh, God is Omni-pesent.
The congregation, the altar boys, the ushers, the organist, etc, all faced God, too

Ask yourself this question: What gets attacked the most and at such intensity, the truth or a lie?
And who is getting ‘attacked’ on this site?
All I’m doing is quoting scripture, the inerrant, infallable word of my Redeemer.

I’d say they are attacking truths and half truths. The term Proof-texting would be appropriate. Attackers are selecting the corrupt fruit and ignoring the good fruit produced by the tree.

Jack Chick tracts always sprinkle some real facts in with their lies

They mean that in the TM the Priest faces Christ present in the Eucharist on the Altar, as opposed to having his back on Christ at the Altar to face the congregation. It’s a more appropriate and more reverent Mass and one I pray my parish switches too.

I am talking about “Why is the Catholic Church hated so much” not any individual. Since the Catholic Church is the pillar and foundation of truth, this is why it is attacked with such hatred and intensity.

The Catholic faith, its doctrines and dogmas are not corrupt, the sinners within may be.

lol that link is veeeeeeeeeeeery biased. Note how it doesn’t present both sides beliefs without slanting them in favor of the baptists over the Catholics. Sadly the ignorant will read this and accept it as fact because its easier to believe in a church that stands with partial communion with Christ barely knowing half the story, as opposed to standing WITH Christ in Truth,

All you are doing is taking scripture out of its context and “bastardizing” it. Before you get out of shape, you better check the meaning of the word in quotes before you falsely accuse me.

You were born in 1963 according to you…you were an altar boy, according to you…and didn’t know about facing Presence of Christ in the Eucharist?
Hmmmmm…

Newcreation…what kind of church do you belong to anyway?

Without putting your righteousness above and against the Catholic Church, you lose alot of air.

Take the Catholic Church out of the picture.

Now go back to Scripture and just try to read it without the Catholic Church…just the Holy Spirit.

His upbringing must be like mine, really quirky. Catechesis was also seriously lacking during those years. It’s just beginning to be corrected.

What is frustrating is this guy apparently has read nothing, zero, anything in response to him. I can honestly say the fundamentalists I have encountered that scream the loudest about their KJV Bibles, never seem to read their KJV Bibles. They rely on what someone says is in the Bible. They allow someone else to think for them.

It’s not reading comprehension, its just a devotion to ignorace.

I concur. Fundamentalist. I have a huge family of them. Since we converted to Catholicism my visits are to home are quite recreational… mentally. In spite my reading and studying scripture for 36 years now, I’m treated like an ignorant fool. Reading, studying and learning scripture is what led me to Catholicism.
