Dismissing it as a right wing talking point is the problem here. As is your straw man that I think all the other studies cited go ‘poof’ because of the fact that blacks commit more violent crime. I don’t think you ‘need it’ from me. I am simply discussing the subject. No ill will on my end.

That you think they go poof is shown by your insistence its “just an opinion piece” when it’s a list of studies, their findings, and links, by a scholar in the field. And yes, that “Blacks commit more crimes, thats why they come into contact with police” is a beloved right-wing talking point; There are studies that control for that and don’t find what right wingers say.

Surely it depends on the crime?

You are much more likely to have an employer cheat on your overtime pay or fail to pay you for a paid paid break and you are to be mugged. And most employers are white.

And there are studies that do, I’m sure. I am criticizing the article you linked, not the linked studies as I don’t have time to go through them.

Theres also the issue of violent crimes and poverty. But all of that is moot, as is the other irrelevant stat brought up “Black on White crime is higher”. The stats are criminals of all races target whoever is close to them the vast majority of the time, so its over 80% for both White and Black criminals. What that has to do with systemic racist beats me. Just a thing right-wingers throw out there as a gotcha that doesn’t hold up to any scrutiny when the issue is systemic racism.

Dismissing my comments as right wing doesn’t address my point and is awfully uncharitable. Nor does it go any way toward solving the issue of violent crime in black communities.

What is your criticism? Are you saying the findings are faked by this scholar? Have the cited scholars complained or are you just concerned that their colleague has been secretly misrepresenting their public studies on a big newspaper for two years?

Or do you just want to make sure it’s not read because it makes people who claim systemic racism is a myth look foolish or uniformed?

Unfortunately, Rubee, I’d like to note: i think it’s at least 3 times you’ve called me “laughable,” twice you said i sounded like a rich kid; said I was acting by “magic,” disliked what i said as “nonsense,” and told MIStident that he just wants to go “poof.”

This is still a Catholic board.

It might make you feel cool and all, but do you think this dismissive rhetoric impresses anyone?

Your article has some major holes in it. It’s an opinion piece (not raw data) from one of the most biased liberal mainstream cites out there. It links to a lot of sources saying systemic racism is a myth. It’s also very narrow (justice system alone). That said, I’m gonna read it and digest it.

But your level of dismissiveness has made me conclude that you’re not someone capable of having a dialog with anyone who disagrees with you.

The fact that you won’t even mention things like educational and employment affirmative action - where blacks are favored due to skin color - is also noteworthy.

Sorry.

The police are set up in such a way that they are much better at going after some types of crime (drug dealing, mugging) than they are after some other types of crime (stealing money from pension funds, failure to pay for overtime work, being a hedge fund manager, etc). So crimes that white people are more likely to commit are the crimes that the police are not equipped to handle.

Related to that - I have a social worker relative who told me that child abuse rates are the same across all the different demographic groups - rich, poor, white, black, etc. But disproportionately, the poor and the black are much more likely to come to the attention of authorities - the whiter and richer you are, the less likely you are even to show up on the statistics.

Stacie, you have a very odd definition of “crime” - you include “being a hedge fund manager” as an example of crime (!).

Is it really criminal just to, say, make a good living? Curious what about being a hedge fund manager makes one a criminal.

No it’s just what that role could lead you to.
Just like programmer to hacker

Unfortunately, it’s a bazillion times you’re pretending I called you a name and misrepresenting my criticism of your claims as well as my analogies. I hope you can stop this habit and respond to my posts here on out instead of this derailment.
Please stop assuming my intentions.
I asked, that’s not an assumption.

Also asked: Have you a reason to claim this scholar is publicly misrepresenting the findings he has listed for each of these public studies in a widely read paper or is it just something you say when people ask for evidence of systemic racism and are guided to a compilation of the very same by a person whose job is to study these matters?

I’m done discussing the article. I find it slanted.
Convenient. I’ll take it you obviously have no reason to think its misrepresentative of the studies besides “finding it slanted,” whatever the heck that means when referring to a list of all studies on a given issue with their findings both in favor and against a conclusion simply reported in summary and links to each of the actual studies given for each summary.

Here it is again, folks, those who are interested in reading on matters they have very strong opinions about:

I’m not impressed by the article. Sorry.

They make a lot of money while contributing nothing to society. This is not a crime but perhaps it should be? In any case my post would stand even if you could demonstrate that hedge fund managers do anything useful.

Perhaps you can look at this this way - would anyone even notice if hedge fund managers disappeared? People would certainly notice if garbage collectors disappeared.
