I believe the Seventh-Day Adventists don’t believe in eating pork. I know from experience, but that’s another story.

The OT is from God, right? So God says “dont do it b/c its unclean” not b/c the pigs will drink all your water. I think if that is what is meant, that is what God would have said.

So the reason, that you and I must accept b/c its written in both our Holy books, is that God said no for the simple reason that they are unclean for us to eat 🙂

(i understand that you beleive Jesus abrogated that later, but still, you believe it was originally divine guidance)
As to whether it was originally divine guidance or not, I’m not sure, but Jesus did declare ALL foods clean, and he is God!

"The next day, while they were on their way and nearing the city, Peter went up to the roof terrace to pray at about noontime. 7
10 He was hungry and wished to eat, and while they were making preparations he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered to the ground by its four corners. 12 In it were all the earth’s four-legged animals and reptiles and the birds of the sky. 13 A voice said to him, “Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “Certainly not, sir. For never have I eaten anything profane and unclean.” 15 The voice spoke to him again, a second time, “What God has made clean, you are not to call profane.” "

what I am saying is that at one point in time, you believe that God said “do not eat pigs because they are unclean” adn now somebody said that it was actaully because pigs drink a lot of water. It doesnt make sense to me for us to start making up stuff here if both the prohbition and the *reason * for the prohibition are clearly stated in both our holy books. The fact that that was later abrogated doesnt negate the fact that it was from God.

Its in the Old Testament. Do you have doubt that the OT is from God?

No, it doesn’t. I didn’t remark about water to indicate that I thought it was the ONLY reason for the prohibition, just as an afterthought and added bonus for Jews and Muslims. That’s why I said ‘ANOTHER reason’.

By the way, what does ‘unclean’ mean anyway? It could possibly refer to pigs being susceptible to certain diseases. In which case, if our modern processing methods have eradicated them then it should be fine.

You talk about Jews and Muslims as if its not in YOUR Holy book, the one that you believe GOD sent. Why pigs alone? every animal is suceptible to disease, are they not? Mad cow, crazy chikens, come on now.

Anyway, i dont care if everyone here has a bacon egg and cheese sandwhich for breakfast…but I wont b.c God told me not to. 🙂 and at the end folks, that who we have to answer to.

Then why does everyone have an Easter Ham as a tradition if it is not acceptable? I am being serious here!

You’re Muslim, of course everyone of your faith and the Jewish faith should obey your dietary laws. We Christians do have those rules in our book, as matters of historical record, along with a lot of others about permissible divorce and other things.

We also have in our New Testament that Jesus was God incarnate, the fulfilment of the Old Testament law, and that he and God the Father directly abrogated those dietary laws, removed the idea of permissible divorce and made many other changes.

Just like your prophet Mohammed made changes - four wives, praying five times a day and facing Mecca etc. You worship and answer to God according to your faith, I’ll do so according to mine. Wouldn’t expect any less or different.

I don’t know how dirty pigs were in OT, but in NT, God said He has made ‘em clean…enough for us to eat. So we eat ! I have nothin’ to complain about that ! Wouldn’t want to miss out on the good stuff.
This is JUST discipline law, not moral law.
God is only interest in what is in our heart, not what we eat.

I believe we human have eaten something worser than pigs…so don’t pick on pigs.

I eschew pork myself (alright, ** except ** for Italian sausage) , not because I have to for religious reasons, but because I choose to and I do agree with the Muslims and the Jews that it is an essentially “unclean” kind of animal in the way it lives, etc. I even buy Hebrew Nationals hot dogs. They actually are far better tasting I have found.

I also , and this probably will sound ridiculous to alot of people here, but I also follow some part of a Jewish dietary prescription; that is, I avoid eating any kind of thing from the water or sea that does not have* scales * on it. I don’t eat any shellfishes, at all, or shrimps, mussels, clams, squid or octopi, etc, as well as “cat” fishes ( which in my opinion is the pig of the water, actually ; a dirty scavenger fish). I know for me it’s not "trayf ", and sure I don’t technically have to avoid these foods because I’m neither Jewish nor Muslim , but I follow these things anyway because I admire that they have dietary laws like that. I think it’s nice to hold something off from yourself , that you might otherwise enjoy, for a religious or moral or personal reason, which is why I enjoy fasting on Fridays during Lent. Reminds you there’s “something greater” , so to speak.

Jesus (thank heavens) taught us that ‘nothing that goes into a man’s mouth (ie food) can make him unclean, only what comes out of it (what a man says) can make him unclean’. God is interested in what is in our hearts, not whether or not we eat pork or follow other dietary restrictions.

strange enough a muslim cook told me this when i told him that i don’t eat meat during fasting month so i explained to him that it doesnt have to do with clean/unclean idea and i told him that i know what he says cuz Jesus said it …he was : really? heheh

I don’t think anyone who faithfully follows Catholic teaching needs to worry about not denying themselves enough, regardless of whether they restrict their diet or not.
