Also everything you do effects your heart. So if you fornicate, it effects your heart, if you lie it effects your heart, if you don’t obey God it effects your heart, if you do whatever you want it effects your heart. So in Islam Allah only cares about what is in our hearts too, but there is a way of getting our hearts the way He wants them, by doing what He commands and staying away from what He prohibits.

You can’t beat your wife and say she only cares about what is in my heart. Whatever is in the heart is expressed by action. If you love your wife in your heart, you should prove it by listening to her. (this is just an example, please no one focus on the example itself, just the point being made).

🙂
This is an excellent point that more Christians would do well to consider.

LMAO, maybe so, pro, but do you not see how condescening you are being by posting that?

How about more people in general should consider?

Gee thanks, I guess we never thought about that. 😛

Are you familiar with the Sermon on the Mount? Jesus is also very concerned about what is in our heart and minds, so we’re pretty aware.

Actually, I was referring more to our misguided “Faith alone!” brothers, who think that no act matters to God in the face of repeating “Jesus is my friend.”

lool exactly…what does bacon have to do with the heart? (spiritually) …butter as well clogs it so??

in my opinion, not what enters your mouth that defiles you but what comes out of it is much more spiritual than : if you love me, do not eat pork or to obey me: do not eat pork.

if you love me, do not kill, rape, hurt, steal, but…eat pork??? and why pork? all animals have had their share in diseases…and there are many people who just don’t like its taste…i mean…oh well whatever …🙂

i understand perfectly…yes staying away from whatGod prohibts is what we should do…but lets take it a step further : why does God prohibit something? is it to boast for being the all-powerful master and you the slaves who must obey? or is it for your own good and the good of humanity?

if God prohibits killing, raping, ecc it is for your own good and the good of your human brothers…

but what benefit is for you if Allah dictates to you what to eat, drink, the position to sleep, how to go to bathroom ecc?? what do these rituals serve? what spiritual meaning does Allah have when he prohibits/dictates these things? what good does it make for you or for humanity?

I don’t understand the big deal about pigs being unclean. According to:

The Hadith
Bukhari Vol. 1 #234

Mohammed ordered his followers to go to the herds of camels and drink their milk and URINE!

…I’m just glad I don’t eat pork or any other meat for that matter. I don’t have to worry what’s right or wrong in that respect. I do eat fish once in a while though.

I used eat meat, including pork, when I was a kid and up until a few years back. Now I actually even hate and can’t stand the smell pork being cooked.

I actually read something written by Nation of Islam leader Elijah Mohammad regarding pork. Just to summerize what he said:
  1. Pork, no matter how or if it’s cooked or not, contains worm larve that enter into the bloodstream and inbed themselves in body tissue. The worms hatch and destroy the tissue.
  2. The “white man” sells this “poison meat” to darker skinned races to make them sick.
Just some food for thought.

(I know the nation of Islam is not real Islam, BTW)

No way would a just Gid give us Pork and then tell us not to eat it.

#1 is unscientific nonsense.
#2 is just silly. Pork is more expensive than most other meats, and as “darker skinned races” tend to be poorer than “white men”, I guarantee that “white men” eat a lot more pork than “darker skinned races” do. And where is the evidence that all these white pig farmers and pork butchers are trying to persuade/force “dark races” to eat their product, let alone discourage/prohibit their fellow whites from eating it?

This “leader” should be a public laughing stock for promoting such a ludicrously stupid theory.

Who cares? That just means there is more bacon, ham, pork chops and BBQ’ed pork for me. Same goes for bourbon. Man, it’s good to be Catholic! 😃 We have to eat fish on Friday during Lent, that’s not much of a pennance for me as I love fish. We can drink in moderation, dance, eat just about anything, don’t have to wear any odd clothing, look at the other sex if we want, choose our own spouse and lots of other good stuff. All we have to do is be the best people we can be, attend mass and go to confession when we sin. What a great religion we have.

I was lead to believe, by my dad, a fairly ‘traditional’ man-i.e has some ignorant prejudices against everyone, but also by a Muslim friend, who is liberal however so his beliefs may not conform to standard Islamic teaching that the belief in not eating pork was a tradition (possibly branching from the Jewish tradition) because pork spoiled quickly in desert heat and lead to food poisoning. But I’m not an Islamic scholar, or a butcher so I can’t verify either statement.
YOu are posting a reason to support a scriptual prohibition. But that is not a reason set forth in the scripture (certainly not of Torah and I don’t think in Koran). The Koran, like the Christian Bible follows many things that were originally set forth in Torah. The pig is specifically stated as a no-no in Genesis.

Unclean does not mean dirty. It is to be taken in a ritual context.

Actually, he’s venerated as being a messiah figure to militant black muslims.

So Jews are asked not to eat pig while performing some ritual? or is it forbidden always? and what does a pig have to do with anything?

No. We are always forbidden to eat pork. We cannot eat any animal that does not both chew its cud and have a cloven hoof. A pig does not chew its cud.

But when we say an animal is “unclean” we generally mean it cannot be used for ritual sacrifice. Similarly, a person could become “unclean” under certain conditions, such as being in contact with a dead body. It would not matter how much they washed afterward, they would still be “unclean” and would have to go through a seperate ritual that was carried out in the Temple.
