Why not speak out against Protestants?

I’m not trying to be hateful by asking you this, but why how does a bead keep satan away?

I truly believe that you are singling me out because there are no answers to my questions and you feel that you have been led astray in your catholic beliefs. I am only pointing out truths of the Bible, nothing more, nothing less. You don’t have a problem seeing a thread posted “why not speak out againts Protestants?” So, it is fine to question the protestant belief but not the catholic belief?
Sure it is fine to question Catholic belief…on a different thread. THIS thread is about speaking out against Protestants. Possibly, it would have been more aptly named “speaking out against protestantism” but that is the OP’s choice.

There are lots of threads on Purgatory, by the way. Take a look at any number of them for what Catholic teaching is or feel free to ask any questions you want on a new thread.

I really wanted to answer you your question; however, I will only answer to your question if you are kind enough to open a new thread. 🙂

all or your questions, and more, appeared in a book called Roman Catholicism by Lorraine Bettner about 50 years ago. All were unfounded then and now. All wereand some still are used by the anit-Catholic crowd to confuse and attack the poorly cathecized Catholic.

If you go to the CA home page, on the listing at the left side of the home page, click on tracks and ask away.

That way the Catholic posters here don’t have to rehash old and erroneous news that more and more protestants have been embarrassed by over the years.

You appear to be zealous in your beliefs, and perhaps sincere.

But you are sincerely wrong about what Catholics believe.

And you are being seriously mislead by someone.

Let me help you start the thread as I think you might be busy reading other posts.

I will happily leave this forum if any of you can tell me why the thief on the cross who only had faith in Jesus was told by Jesus that he would be be taken to Paradise with him that very day and Jesus never mentioned that the thief didn’t do any good works or that the thief had to stay somewhere else for a while (purgatory) before he entered Paradise?

Because Jesus is God and he can make the rules?

Also, we call it Baptism by desire. At the point of death being nailed to a cross, the thief confessed and had faith in Jesus. Surely, Jesus didn’t want him to walk out of his own cross, but he still stuck there at a form of being punished and repented for his sins.

We give you the answer but we surely don’t want you to walk away. What is your point of being here for? and what do you think our purpose of having this site for? 😉

You are welcome to stay as long as you like, but like all others we just need to read the rules of the forums before going out of bound.

Who asked you to leave? All anyone has asked you to do is post new threads re: your questions about Catholic teachings and practices, and stop hijacking the threads you are currently posting on. If you don’t know how to do that, I am sure a moderator can give you instructions.

Water has been kind enough to start one on your question regarding the rosary. forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=134793. Feel free to click the link and discuss it there.

I am pointing out faith alone brings a person salvation because works is like a filthy rag to God. It is of faith that we are saved not of works. Baptism (water baptism) has no power to cleanse sins away or give you salvation only the blood of Jesus Christ has the power!

I can understand that you have been taught what many have been taught … in error.

It is true that the works (the works of the law… different Greek word than just works) of the Old Testament were nolonger in effect. The New Covenant replaces/fulfills all the old.

And since none of Scripture will contradict any other part of Scripture… how do you accept 1Peter “…baptism now saves you…” ??

or

James… “…we are NOT saved by Faith alone…”

Actually, the only time the bible has “faith” and “alone” together is when it says we are justified by works and not by faith alone. Jas 2:24. However, you can be assured that Catholics do not believe we are saved by works. How about that? Another lie that’s been told to you that we have now cleared up. Catholics simply believe in a living faith (working in love) not a dead faith. Faith without works is dead and no one could possibly believe that dead faith is worthy in any way. Lastly, the Bible tells us that baptism now saves us (2 Pet 3:21) and that we must repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38) so please don’t minimize the importance of baptism.

Bottom line Catholics believe we are saved by God’s grace alone and that nothing we can do on our own will merit our salvation. Even our ability to have faith is a free gift of God. It is all due to obedient Sacrifice of Our Lord and Savior. Now, that your misconception has been cleared up, perhaps you can start some of those threads to answer your questions on other issues, like purgatory.

I don’t think Non-Christians belong to the Church. They are not baptized. To be a member of the Church, they have to be baptize.
While this is true, you must remember that every person was created by God. He loves them all and does not want any of them to perish. That’s where you come in. Are you proclaiming the Good News to non Christians? That’s your job.😃

First of all, there are Bible verses I can quote you about purgatory but I am at work so cannot do it for now.
Secondly, people in purgatory are bound to heaven. Purgatory is a place for temporary purification. The explanation for thief on the right could be two according to my own understanding:
1) the fact he was suffering on the Cross is the purgatory for him. Pain and suffering on the Cross might purified the thief already that’s how he could said what he said to Jesus. Therefore, he has fulfilled his purgation. 2) We know after death Jesus descended to hell. If he even visited hell, I am sure he also visited purgatory. Could this paradise is actually the purgatory?

Anyway, the thief could not enter heaven by faith alone. He went through purgatory from one of the two point I stated.

I will quote you the Bible verses about purgatory. If you have an open mind to learn and to communicate, then it is meaningful to participate conversation.

Before talking about purgatory, we first need to know where dose Bible come from.

Bible, written by different people with the inspiration from the Holy Spirit, was decided and combined together by the Catholic Church.

Before the Bible was formed into the printed version, the Word of God was orally passed down. It is in 367, St. Athanasius , one of the first Church fathers, listed the currently accepted 27New Testament books.

The canons of the New Testament and Old Testament were determined by human Church authority at the Council of Carthage in 397. That’s why sola Scriptura is not right. From the fact I stated about above, it is obvious that the presence of the Church and the Apostolic Tradition are equally important.

With that said, at least 2 places in the Bible talked about Purgatory.
1 Corinthians 3:11- 15
2 Maccabees 12:40-46

I don’t think Non-Christians belong to the Church. They are not baptized. To be a member of the Church, they have to be baptize.
According to The Apostle Paul 1 Cor 1:17 “For Christ did not send me to baptise, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.”
One would think that if baptism was needed for salvation, Paul would not have uttered those words.

When Nicodemus asked Jesus what he needed to do to have eternal life, Jesus said “You must be born again.” Nothing about baptism.

The thief on the cross wasn’t baptised.

God Bless,
Robert

The Apostle Paul in 2 Cor 5:6-8 said that to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. He was speaking of God’s elect of course. So according to the Apostle Paul when on of God’s elect dies, he goes straight to heaven. Praise God.

The Holy Bible was written by more than 40 human authors, inspired by the Holy Spirit over a period of about 14 to 18 centuries, long before the Catholic church got started. According to 2 Tim 3:16-17 all of the Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit. The word inspired in Greek is Theopneustos which means “God breathed”.

Trust in what God say’s through His word, The Bible.

God Bless,
Robert
