The point is that there are many memorials that don’t just do that. If you’re going to build one, and it’s the first, why not just do this now?
Where’s the rule book that says you have to?

Is there a story that goes with that photo? I would be curious as to the reasons for that man’s killing, and particularly in whether his killers thought of him as white…
I would suggest the reason you suspect that is that you’ve bought into a false notion about lynching. That is that it was only about killing innocent Blacks.

So it doesn’t mention the white victims and is therefore racist? Go make your own memorial to them then. Or sue them for discrimination. Or start a petitiion.

And for the record, I have a life to live, I don’t expect everyone to pander to all my views of whar is important or not and what a memorial should include or not.

A memorial to black victims of lynching ia no more offensive or discriminatory to me than an all-boys’ high school, even though as a female I could never have attended.

Exactly.
Go make your own memorial to them then.
Why would I want to be racist?

Or an all White school? That doesn’t offend you? I’m sure it does. Tell me if it doesn’t.

You continue to insist that anyone who says this is downplaying what was done against African-Americans at that time. The fact is - they’re not.
Really? Exnihilio is claiming this is racist while at the same time saying that Confederate memorials are no biggie because they were “privately built monuments to the dead.” There are only so many ways I can interpret posts like that.

Okay, so Heath is an example of the “suspect dragged out of jail and killed by a mob before trial” white lynching victim, which I acknowledged was a thing.

You seem to be arguing with an imaginary person, since I have always acknowledged lynch8ngs committed against victims other than innocent black people.

You’re right, thanks for the correction. Killed by a mob who didn’t think life imprisonment was punishment enough, then.

Why do you need it in print?

So are all the Blacks who were taken from jail and lynched excluded from the memorial, since this seems to make lynching no big deal?

You can always ask a person to expound upon their reasoning before making an assumption.

I actually don’t think that’s quite what he’s said (that it’s “no biggie”) but that’s for you to interpret.

The fact is a lot of folks died trying to make things right, and it’s a massive disservice for that to just be brushed aside. They are a piece of the story. Why is it so awful to just say so?

Well I’m glad that’s not divisive.

As I can see where this is going, I’m out.

So is it forbidden to memorialise white victims of lynching at this place or something? I doubt it.

Like I said - if it offends you, do something (or try to) and don’t jiust bleat uselessly on the internet. If you don’t feel that making your own memorial is the thing, then I made other suggestions and I’m sure you can come up with stull more on your own.

We are having a conversation. If you want to characterize it as me bleating then I suggest you rethink what it means to be charitable.

Brother, you may wish to.stop bandying words like ‘racist’ around if you want to credibly accuse others of being uncharitable.
