Why would a straight person leave the Catholic Church over our teaching on gay marriage?

Or stay single. Read it carefully. They can marry just like CAFr’s Prodigal Son.

By the way, Amazing Grace, the idea is to support Catholic views in our answers. CAF.

The idea is to have a dialogue, and not just say “it’s what the Church says, so there.”

I am pretty sure nobody in the forums uses the Church says so argument.

Then I got the name wrong. Sorry about that. There is one guy as I described.

Not all can. Ever heard of the Kinsey scale? Some guys can be predominantly attracted to men, but come across one or two women that they find attractive. Other guys might be exclusively gay, and find the idea of relations with a woman totally unappealing.

Because you wrote, “Yeah, because gay men marrying women always goes over so well.” You could have written any number of positive statements to support the Church, but you pick the one disparaging thing.

The Church does not have a rule which says gay men must marry women. I was highlighting an unwise suggestion.

Instead of highlighting that they could be single, the sentence I wrote which would support the Church.

Your one good point is not everybody can live properly. And that’s true. But we really need to let them know they are living improperly, not have banks with colours on them taking “pride” in sinful activities.

Do you do the same for straight people who have sex outside of marriage?

Some people actually suggest this without considering the reservations. No one lurking should take away that it’s a real option.

Yes. And it has had some interesting consequences . I could tell you about that sometime. I have discouraged at least one couple from having sex outside of marriage and they went on to have a good marriage complete with NFP instruction.

Same reason you don’t have to be gay to support gay marriage. You don’t have to be African American to see that enslavement of Africans was wrong. You don’t have to be Jewish or follow a certain (or any) religion to see that it is wrong to mass murder Jews.

In this case however, I stand with the church in its teaching against gay marriage, and people who leave do not truly understand Church teaching or Catholicism in general and the importance of marriage between a man and a woman.

You moralize the STD epidemic? Berate them for living improperly? Tell them to marry people they might not be attracted to? Ask if their desire for sex is a result of mental weakness? Say “so-and-so” would be alive if only he hadn’t been such a womanizer?
