Francispie, just wanted to give you my opinion…I very much want to quit the catholic church and become an
Assembly of God member. Am i doomed for hell?
I don’t fit in with the CC, there is no enthusiasm there.
I used to be a Protestant and then converted to Catholicism. It was difficult for me to convert exactly for the reason you said. I loved my old non denom church with the exciting worship etc. But I found that once I let that go, I found more grace in the Catholic Church than EVER in my life as a Protestant. The Sacraments are such a gift from God. I think it would be best for you to not give up yet but look more into your faith… think about the Eucharist. What is greater than that? what praise and worship service can compare? you are receiving Jesus physically into yourself. There’s literally NOTHING like this anywhere else. Don’t look for what fits you, or for enthusiasm…look for the truth. Read a book about the Church like something by Scott Hahn. Read stuff by the Saints.
To answer your question, if you leave the Church, yes that is dangerous, but I’m not saying that to scare you into staying Catholic. I think it would be better if you just examined what the Church teaches and tried to be a good Catholic before giving up if you so choose.
Catholics may not be as “expressive” as Protestants, but that’s not because we care about the faith less. That’s just because the Catholic approach to prayer etc is more contemplative… but it’s very much based on love for God, even experience, etc. And if you want more of the charismatic elements, why not join a Catholic charismatic group? If you’re around my age (early 20s) there are various Catholic ministries etc that are charismatic.
I just wanted to tell you that by leaving the Church, you’ll leave behind the Sacraments, without ever realizing the beauty of them. I was baptized Eastern Orthodox and then left to be Protestant for the same reason you’re thinking of leaving the Catholic Church now. I was happy as a Protestant for several years but then it felt empty. All the excitement wore off. But the Eucharist never ‘wears off’. As a Catholic I’ve found there’s more here to help me grow spiritually…better than any sermons or music or excitement. Protestantism is really based on emotion…I left the Sacraments, for a time, for emotions. But God lead me back. I hope that He will show you the beauty of the Sacraments too.
God bless.
