I very much want to quit the catholic church and become an
Assembly of God member. Am i doomed for hell?

I don’t fit in with the CC, there is no enthusiasm there.
Francispie, just wanted to give you my opinion…

I used to be a Protestant and then converted to Catholicism. It was difficult for me to convert exactly for the reason you said. I loved my old non denom church with the exciting worship etc. But I found that once I let that go, I found more grace in the Catholic Church than EVER in my life as a Protestant. The Sacraments are such a gift from God. I think it would be best for you to not give up yet but look more into your faith… think about the Eucharist. What is greater than that? what praise and worship service can compare? you are receiving Jesus physically into yourself. There’s literally NOTHING like this anywhere else. Don’t look for what fits you, or for enthusiasm…look for the truth. Read a book about the Church like something by Scott Hahn. Read stuff by the Saints.

To answer your question, if you leave the Church, yes that is dangerous, but I’m not saying that to scare you into staying Catholic. I think it would be better if you just examined what the Church teaches and tried to be a good Catholic before giving up if you so choose.

Catholics may not be as “expressive” as Protestants, but that’s not because we care about the faith less. That’s just because the Catholic approach to prayer etc is more contemplative… but it’s very much based on love for God, even experience, etc. And if you want more of the charismatic elements, why not join a Catholic charismatic group? If you’re around my age (early 20s) there are various Catholic ministries etc that are charismatic.

I just wanted to tell you that by leaving the Church, you’ll leave behind the Sacraments, without ever realizing the beauty of them. I was baptized Eastern Orthodox and then left to be Protestant for the same reason you’re thinking of leaving the Catholic Church now. I was happy as a Protestant for several years but then it felt empty. All the excitement wore off. But the Eucharist never ‘wears off’. As a Catholic I’ve found there’s more here to help me grow spiritually…better than any sermons or music or excitement. Protestantism is really based on emotion…I left the Sacraments, for a time, for emotions. But God lead me back. I hope that He will show you the beauty of the Sacraments too.

God bless.

What enthusiasm do you bring to it? If you would realize what takes place during the mass, you would be enthusiastic and this would spread. Secondly, you wouldn’t be thinking of leaving because you would know that the mass is the highest form of heavenly worship of God available here on earth.

Study the book of Revelation and read Scott Haun’s book, “The Lamb’s Supper”. Most of all dont leave without knowing what and who your are leaving.

God bless you on your journey!

WRONG.
Remember that Scripture itself says that Jesus established only ONE Church (Matt. 16:15-19) and it certainly wasn’t yours.
He prayed for the unity of that Church that they remain ONE - as he and the Father are ONE (John 17).

Also - please show me where the Scriptures or teachings of the Early Church because MY Bible says:
Matt. 7:21
"Not everyone
who says to me, “Lord, Lord” shall enter the kingdom of heaven."

If you belong to any other Church - you ain’t part of HIS Church . . .
Elvis you were born 500 years too late.

We can practice our faith without fear of being burned at the stake, hang or decapitated.
Tell Jesus Im not part of His Church. Im not listening.

There was the Church at Antioch, The Church at Jerusalem, The Church at Alexandreia, The Church at Rome. Then Rome threw the others out proclaiming itself supreme. Rome does a lot of proclaiming and exalting itself as the One True Church, rubbish.
The Curch which is the congregation of God is defined by its beliefs.
The devil is the father of lies who has coe to rob, kill and destroy. Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. The Church is to carryout that ministry and the gates of hell cannot keep her out nor
keep those still in bondage in.
The Catholic Church has always, always bullied those who question the untruth it propogates.

**No - YOU lost when you rejected the Lord and his Church (Luke 10:16).
**That’s the tragedy of Protestantism - spiritual pride, rebellion and arrogance.

As for being killed for what you believe in - tell it to the Martyrs of Gorkum who were killed my Calvinists in the 16th century for being Catholic.

Tell it to John Fisher, Thomas More and countless others murdered by Henry VIII for being Catholic.
T****ell it to the thousands butchered by Elizabeth I for being Catholic.

Don’t waste my time by trying to tell me that Catholics are the only ones in history with blood on their hands. There’s plenty of blame to go around.

The only difference is that, after all of your railing against the Church - you’ll still be seperated from the Body of Christ.

Yes you can practice your faith freely and that is good. Freedom to worship whatever god/s one wishes to worship is enscribed in civil law.

But that doesn’t say anything at all save that you are free to do what you want in this regard.

New agers worship crystals, alliens, Satanists worship satan, etc, etc,. It doesn’t mean anything.

The fact remains that Christ established one Church. If you are a Christian, then you are either following His expressed will by remaiing in His Church or insisting on your own will by stubbornly remaining separate. But yes, you are right, you are free to do either.

there’s no such thing as hell, so the answer is emphatically NO!

Wanna bet?

Mark 9:47–48
"It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, where the worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched."

Matt. 25:31-34, 41, 46
"He will separate them one from another. . . . Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. . . .’ Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels . . .’ And these will go off to ETERNAL punishment, but the righteous to eternal life"

Luke 3:16-17
"He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn in UNQUENCHABLE fire"

(2 Thess. 1:6-9)
"For it is surely just on God’s part to repay with afflictions those who are afflicting you. . . . at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels, in blazing fire, inflicting punishment on those who do not acknowledge God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of ETERNAL ruin
**, separated from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power."**

you’re using a book I think is ancient nonsense to prove the veracity of a concept I think is more ancient nonsense? Hmmm … any REAL evidence?

Nevertheless, I don’t want to derail this thread (there’s a few atheist threads in this forum, where I’m glad to reduce theistic arguments to absurdity).

Well, then there is no God either, in your opinion.
If I had known you were an atheist, I wouldn’t have bothered answering your post.
The arrogance that is atheism is a problem you have to deal with . . .

No you won’t go to hell if you stop being a Catholic. I know I’ll get some nasty response abut what I’m, saying but I don’t care. The true Church is Christ himself, not any one religion. When Jesus said upon this rock I will build my church. The words My Church means Jesus he is the church and we are to build upon him and all his teachings. We are to be as much like him as we possibly can. To say that one church is the true church sounds crazy to me. Jesus said that I am the way, the truth and the life he who believes in me will not parish but have etenal life. It doesn’t say I’ am the way the true Catholic church and the life, he who believes in the Catholic church will parish and won’t have eternal life. It doesn’t matter how you worship God it could be by dancing, singing, watching a religious play, sitting there with you hands folded, listening the the priest saying the same thing every week, the same mass every week it don’t matter as long as you believe in him and worship him. If the Catholic church don’t fit your needs then you are not in good fellowship with God there. If you feel that you can have a better relationship with God by worshiping him in a different way then do it. But to go to hell if you stop being a Catholic don’t fall into that trap.

I am surprised and saddened at many of the answers you have received here…But your question is a valid one, and, it is often the case that there is much more meaning behind such a question, than what is initially posted.

To me, the answer is simple. It is not likely that you will go to hell, no matter which Church you decide to leave. I can’t see any Bible support for this, and I include those who leave my Church and become Catholics.

Promises such as John 6:37 transcend denominational lines, and reach out personally to the individual, and their relationship with Jesus. It is always Jesus who saves, and not the Church. See John 1:29

You should not leave the Catholic Church just because members in your area have become “unenthusiastic,” for it is a well known fact that revival often starts with one revived individual. But, I would leave in a minute if I was sure that God was calling me to something else. And He does call people out of the Catholic Church; I have seen it many times.

I have not read the last few pages of this topic yet, so before saying more I will read. 🙂

Naaah. You are very wrong there.
Jesus said You are Kepha, and upon this kepha I will build my Church.
Translated into English, it goes: Simon…, you are Rock and upon this rock I will build my Church.
The rock here is Peter, that is why in John and in Paul’s writings he is called Cephas which is the Aramaic for rock.

Learn to read the Bible properly. Allow it to speak for itself rather that putting your own spin into its mouth.

However, I think you are right, one does not go to hell because he is not in the Catholic Church. However if you are saved, you will belong to the Catholic Church and if you end up in hell that is because you are outside of the Catholic Church. 😃
The words My Church means Jesus he is the church and we are to build upon him and all his teachings.
Nope. As I said above, read the Bible. Even just the entire chapter 16 of Matthew. Nowhere in there does Jesus says he is the church.
We are to be as much like him as we possibly can. To say that one church is the true church sounds crazy to me.
Well you will have to argue that with Christ. He established only one church. He did not establish a non-denom, or Lutheran or Baptist church. These all came 1500 years after Jesus established His Church at Pentecost.
Jesus said that I am the way, the truth and the life he who believes in me will not parish but have etenal life.
Yes, perfectly put. And it is because we believe in Him that we believe He is speaking the truth in Matthew 16. You on the other hand do not believe that truth so it is rather questionable whether you really believe in Him or just the convenient bits that jive with your own mindset.

Jesus is the Church; which part is He?
