Giver:
Do the Catholic Churches teachings need to be explained to you? I have been just trying to show the discrepancy between what the Catholic Church teaches and what Jesus taught.
I was in the Catholic Church for over forty years and have instructed Catholic religion classes.
Whoa …hold it!
Lemme get this straight. You were some sort of catechist during your time in the church and you don’t know better than this? Wow! No offense, but no wonder so many of our fellow Catholics are messed up now.
So, since you have supposedly found your salvation outside of the church lemme ask you how you reconcile all the out of context teachings that you have been fed by those folks? The reason that I ask is because I’m a cradle Catholic with 12 years of Catholic schooling behind me who fell away for almost 35 years and after all that time as Southern Baptist and then Assembly of God and then non-denominational, I came home to the faith about 5 years ago because I heard a false allegation made against our most holy faith and it got me digging deeply into what the church teaches and I discovered that I’d either been misled or outright lied to about a great many things and that when I looked into the teachings of the Catholic Church for myself (
Catholic Home Study Service helped a great deal!), with my Bible in hand, I couldn’t deny the truth and I came home.
This Romans 4:5 “proof text” of Sola Fide is all out of the context of the rest of the New Testament. If all it took was faith to “get saved”, then why does Matthew 25:31-46 read as follows?
31 And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty. 32 And all nations shall be gathered together before him, and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left. 34 Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in:
36 Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me. 37 Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee; thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 And when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and covered thee? 39 Or when did we see thee sick or in prison, and came to thee? 40 And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.
41 Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink. 43 I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you covered me not: sick and in prison, and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee? 45 Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.
46 And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.
…and why then does Jesus make these statements in the Gospel of John? (and others is other places…)
John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them; he it is that loveth me. And he that loveth me, shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
John 15:10 If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; as I also have kept my Father’s commandments, and do abide in his love.
No my friend, the context of the Word of God does not teach that we are saved simply by faith alone, but by what we do with that faith and how we follow Christ’s own commandments of love.
You let somebody tell you what they wanted you to think the church teaches and what they want you to think the Word of God says, but that is just plain not the case.
As my friend over at the Mary Foundation say: “Get the facts. Decide for yourself.”
