In other words you have no clue whether they are legal or illegal.
Frankly, Scarlett, I don’t know that it matters. If there are more people willing to paint houses (lay floors, put up drywall, shingle roofs…) than before your wages will suffer. We had our kitchen redone recently and I got to talk with the guy installing the tile. He said he got paid about 1/3 of what he used to get for the same job. He liked the work and was single so he could afford to do it…but he had been away for about a year trying something else which apparently didn’t work out so it’s not clear what choice he had.

Even if it is for tax payers??? It is to protect the citizens… the ones who pay taxes…?

IF the Employer is desperate for the worker he should have helped Jose gain a workers permit and possibly legal immigrant status.
I think “Jose” is rapidly being replaced by Ahmed and Htin Kyaw at the bottom of the food chain. And employers most definitely are getting them into this country as “refugees”.

That is called the market.

Not every taxpayer values it equally and no taxpayer ought to pay more for something than he values it at.

Mexico loves border control:
I think that’s fairly recent. They turned a blind eye when they had confidence the people were just passing through.

The US is now pushing international law, that asylum seekers from south of mexico are required to seek asylum in the first country they enter, which means Mexico becomes responsible for them.

The blue collar workers are hit the hardest. The white collar workers who support this can’t imagine for a minute that not everyone wants an office job. They are college educated, which is why they have no idea of or sympathy for anyone unlike themselves, except the special groups of outsiders they decide to champion to make them feel good.

Right, it’s just “the market” when it’s someone else who pays the price. I am not so blase when it comes to things that are harmful to our own citizens.
Who says someone else pays the price? All of our wages should be determined by the market and only by the market. I am against all government interference that influences wages, such as occupational licensing restrictions.

And of course it’s not even the market. The cost of illegals is subsidized by taxpayers. When the illegal goes to the emergency room for medical care it isn’t the low wage employer paying. When his kids go to school it isn’t the low wage employer paying for it. The low wage employer has socilalized the cost of his sub market wage.

That ship has sailed, which is why we have child labor laws, safety standards, and laws against sweat shops and monopolies. No one believes in unfettered capitalism, including you.

Nor do you know what is in Trump’s. So do you want to continue making wild guesses based on someone else’s words, or take back what you said? I am happy to do either as well.

In theory sure, but I put no value personally in the public school system, and good luck getting an exemption from that in my state taxes. You have now jumped into the theoretical which is fine, but has nothing per se to do with the wall any more than it does the road system. People can value anything they want, and no one can tell them their apportioned level of value is wrong, since it is personally subjective.

Nor does Trump knows the heart of all the folks he has belittled…

Nope. that is not what I am saying. Just calling him out on it. Anyways this thread is not about me. It is about the proposed southern border wall. And if it will do what it Trump says it will do. And if it is worth the money. My guess is you think so. which is fine. I do not. I see it as a false flag…
