You have your sources. CNN and NPR.
By that, I meant something I could verify like a link to an article. Notwithstanding, I found something on CNN.
CNN interviewed people to write an article of what they want us to believe Trayvon was before the incident. Drug use was not mentioned.
But one of the people interviewed was listed as being a “fellow football player”
That and the listing that he played football from age five indicate that he was a football player from an early age and continued to be such.
If this is in error, I suggest the source is the problem.
Right, I found something like that on CNN. Another source says this:

It was a small gathering of people from the Optimist League. Trayvon Martin played football in the league from the age five until 14.

It doesn’t.
Whoever attempted that argument does not know what ‘Optimist’ football is.
The best I can tell from various Optimist football web pages is that it is simply a team not affiliated with a specific school but is instead organized at a neighborhood level.
It does not characterize skill level.
I think that was somewhat the point that the poster was making–because he played Optimist football did not mean he was a football star. But the poster really sounded like there was something more to Optimist football.

And my point is that, him playing football up to age 14 as I know, does not mean he had the strength to beat Zimmerman hands down as maryjk was trying to portray.

I am making that judgement on many factors, one being height. Another being age, and I don’t find a 28 year old desk jockey coming out on top compared to a 17 year old football player.

I don’t see how you come to the conclusion that simply being older would make you fair better in a fight.
Just to add, don’t forget that this 28-year-old desk jockey was aspiring to become a police officer. And it has been reported that he once did a 14-week citizens’ police academy programme offered by the Seminole Sheriff’s Department.

And this is what the programme looks like:

So trying to paint him as a weak 28-year-old male holds no ground.(!) And I posted this on another thread:

Young/prime adulthood can be considered the healthiest time of life’[12] and young adults are generally in good health, subject neither to disease nor the problems of senescence. Biological function and physical performance reach their peak from 20–35 years of age, waning after 35. Strength peaks around 25 years of age, plateaus through 35 - 40 years of age, and then declines. Flexibility also decreases with age throughout adulthood. However, there are large individual differences and a fit 40-year-old may out-compete a sedentary 20-year-old.

W But another poster argued that he wasn’t a star footballer but played “Optimist” football (as you rightly mentioned). Unfortunately, I pretty much don’t know what “Optimist” football is. 🤷 The point is, the post was meant to counteract the claim that he was a star footballer.
I am not sure what Optimist football is but “optimist baseball” is a Houston astros fan:(
