You can't be both a Catholic and a Feminist

Affection is not a feminst trait! Now you are saying that being a feminist is part of being a woman. How can you say that God created women with feminsts traits?

I don’t really have an issue with what you have said. I just can’t understand why women need to look outside the church for support that the church already provides. The church gives us many teachings in defence of women and in support of women. It would just be nice to see a woman fall back on those teachings and not the pluristic concept of feminism for their identity.

  1. You are correct…doing the work of Christ under any other name but the name of Christ, no matter what, is wrong. It denigrates what Christ has done for all Children of God…Male and Female.
  2. Some poor woman??? What about all the other folks (male) who get distracted with any number of “bad teachings” and become disgruntled with the teachings of the Catholic Church? Can you say Luther…Calvin…etc??? How many women, throughout histroy, have led as many AWAY from the Church as men? Do you think women have some special proclivity towards schism? You misguided, misogynistic person! You are implying that I, as a female, need you, as a male, to “guide” me to the light of Christ.
  3. Please tell me you are simply…and I put the emphasis on “simply” trying to be argumentative. I cannot, and will not believe that a good Catholic man, who understands the teachings of the Church, could spout this vitriol.

Actually, that wasn’t my definition that I gave. It was out of the dictionary. And I accept it as a valid definition. I didn’t mean to offend anyone, and appologize if I did.

Correct…affection is a human trait. Women as well as men can display it if they choose. I must wonder what “traits” you speak of when you describe (or actually, you don’t) feminist traits?
There are many women (and men) outside the Church who are desperately trying to find something of meaning to them. They (men and women) can’t look to the Church, because then the light of God would shine on their sins…and who in this day and age says that that’s ok? No, they hide, they lurk, they disparage, they denigrate. All in pathetic hope that they’ll escape God’s judgement. And you are now lumping all women with a shred of self worth (God given) together. Why despise women summarily? Way to go Dude!!! Score one for dis-unity in the Church! Which side are you on, man?

I am inferring that women need other women to guide them to the light of Christ. And when you hide behind another doctrine other then the catholic church (feminism) you are not helping .
matters.

If you have a problem that a MAN, a catholic man, a man that prays to God everyday, might have a valid point regarding YOU as a catholic woman then I can only pray for you.

No offense, but your initial assertion was ridiculous and your support has satisfied no one but yourself. When you have some real evidence–tied to the Catechism, the Bible, and teaching, let me know. Heck, there is not even a generally accepted definition of what “feminist” represents.

What is the purpose of being a feminist? I just don’t get it. Please help me to understand. What is it about that catholic church that is lacking? Why do you need to be a feminist?

When you start to explain why you need to be feminist and why you can’t simply be just a catholic and defend women from that perspective I will take you seriously.

But you haven’t done that. All you have done is reject all that I am saying because I am a man telling you a woman about something that could be wrong in the eyes of God.

I already had one woman on here agree with me that it is wrong to promote the teachings of christ under the banner of feminism (another ISM… another religion).

Hubby tells me that I must go to bed now, and that sounds much better than continuing this (I’ll check back in the morning, glutton for punishment that I am…unless I’m suspended…can I plead PMS?).
Kev7, If you would just change your choice of the word “feminism” to “feminist extremism” I would be most content, and could sleep well.
This is a case where I wish people could say the taboo word “feminazi” or “crazy man hater”…because that would cause a lot less hurt. At least I can understand that sentiment (in my little estrogen wracked brain).
All this PC silliness is doing more harm than good…
Please Kev7, continue to pray for sorry, misguided women like me who just want a fair chance.
