La cité Saint Pierre ( The Saint Peter city) in Lourdes was founded in 1955 by Secours Catholique to provide, according to Bernadette Soubirous’s wish, a shelter and food to the families in great need. It became year after year an international gathering place to pray, meet and think about poverty and charity. About 150,000 people come every year.

The Eucharist is often celebrated outside among the trees in what some call “The Cathedral of the Trees” . It is a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the town ,

Nice reference. St Laurence, Bradford on Avon is specially atmospheric.

I notice the site says St Martin’s, Canterbury, was originally the chapel of Queen Bertha. I understand what it means — it was a church before Augustine arrived — but of course it existed before Queen Bertha came to England, probably originally Roman, and possibly originally a Roman Church.

Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wilmington, California, near the Port of Los Angeles. The parish was established in 1866, and the present church was built in 1930. Here’s how it looked then:

And how it looks now. The Norbertine Fathers currently administer this parish.

Here’s the lovely little Culbone Church, possibly England’s smallest

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

It’s a couple of miles on footpaths through the woods from the nearest road, but services are still held there. The chancel is about 20ft long.

Here’s one where the pictures don’t do it justice, because there is a large bus stop blocking the front and I could only take a couple quick shots inside because Adoration was going on. But this church has an interesting story. It’s St. Paul’s Shrine of Perpetual Adoration in Cleveland. It was originally built in the late 1800s as an Episcopal church for the millionaires then living nearby on Millionaires’ Row. Within a few decades, the millionaires all decamped, their houses were knocked down and replaced by development, and the Episcopalians sold the church to the Diocese of Cleveland, which in turn invited the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration to live there and do Adoration. I presume the Poor Clares also added some things to the church interior, including an ornate enclosure for the sisters and a large stained glass window of St Clare repelling invaders with the Eucharist.

When Mother Angelica entered religious life, this was her first location as a postulant and young sister, before she was transferred to Canton and later went to Alabama.

For several decades St Paul’s functioned as a parish and served the surrounding inner city area, which at that time was heavily Puerto Rican. Over time, much of this neighborhood got demolished and it is currently mostly office buildings and parking lots near this church. It was decommissioned as a parish some years back, but continues to operate as a Perpetual Adoration shrine open daily during certain hours to the public. It also seems to have one of the only Saturday noon Masses in town, which makes it quite popular as shown by its parking lot being full at that time when all the surrounding blocks are totally deserted.

Holy Family Parish, Vancouver Canada. Modest and as reverent as it gets. God has graced this city with an FSSP TLM parish despite the cesspool of progressive ideology rampant here. Grateful!

Mark Twain once said : They say that the Cathedral of Milan is second only to St. Peter’s at Rome. I cannot understand how it can be second to anything made by human hands.”
