Exactly, it’s a Nissen hut, and all the interior effects are indeed effects: paint and hard work. It’s well worth a visit. But then Orkney is a wonderful place. The Norse and prehistoric sites are spectacular

And here is St Magnus Cathedral, Orkney

And speaking of Nissen Hut churches, here is the Catholic church of St Mary in Mere, Wiltshire, England.

It is Old St. Patrick Oratory in Kansas City. It is under the care of Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. The alter boys are dressed in their signature blue cassocks.

It is special in my experience. To pray and meditate next to the holy relic.

Can you post a picture of St. Thomas Beckett? I used up all of my “likes”, so I can’t “like” anything until tomorrow. 😞

The church that I go to “St Thomas of Canterbury Burgate”, Canterbury has a small piece of bone and a piece of vestment that is said to be relics of St Thomas. They are housed in the Martyrs Chapel.

There was a third relic but it was given to San Salvador Cathedral who then give us some vestments that were owned by Oscar Romero.

I would take some photos but I’m not home till September.

Who are the two male Saints/statues by each of the large pillars? Also what is the “golden ball” in the back wall of the sanctuary to the left - is it a Tabernacle?

two male Saints/statues
ok. What your guessing is correct: Saints Peter and Paul.

The Golden ball,: the tabernacle (love the way it opens and closes

I hadn’t noticed Our Lady - very beautiful! Can you explain how the Tabernacle opens and closes? Maybe is two halves which rotate up and to the side, or one side slides like from left to right to open? Thank you for sharing.

Haven’t seen a self-closing tabernacle before, though I guess the design would contribute to this especially if it was weighted - very interesting!
