We understand that you love and respect your Bishop…I respect that.

How about equal respect for other Bishops who WILL be attending? 🤷

I believe, what some seem to have missed here is: This is a “PERSONAL” boycott by these two Bishops. Meaning… they have not told other Catholics not to attend NOR have they told other Catholics that it’s a sin to have a poster of an aborted baby.

It is THEIR personal objection only.
And a matter of prudential judgment. Sad, isn’t it, that our bishops never seem to speak with a united voice. Yes, for one, Archbishop Prendergast has reaffirmed his support.

March for Life in the USA
does NOT use such imagery in public.
Then what in the world are we debating, here?

The whole point of this conversation is that the Bishops do not approve of the display of full-frontal naked photographs of dead bodies being put out on public display.

If the March for Life isn’t doing that, then they have nothing to worry about from the Bishops, and there is no reason for them to go around calling our Bishops “cowards” or “unfaithful” and the like. 🤷

One simple question: If these Two Bishops were doing the March for Life meaning the organizers ]…do you believe they could control who shows up? Who carries what poster…who heckles?
Well, the approved pro-life organizations seem to manage it - Hike for Life manages to get through a whole Saturday without people showing up with unapproved materials, or going off-message - probably because the rules are really, really clear, and people who break the rules are escorted off the site of the demonstration by Knights of Columbus and God Squad members. 🤷

I have also never seen anything unapproved happen at the October demonstration, and again, they have really clear rules, and people are expected to abide by them. People freely bring their children to these events because they know that nothing bad is going to happen.

Apparently, what’s been under discussion is a matter of a national habits.
It’s fine that you all affirm that March for Life is “out of control” in Canada.
That’s news to me (and others) since it is far from the truth in the States.

March for Life is well-known for its appropriateness and devotion.
If you are certain of what is happening in Canada,
then I hope many will tell Father Pavone.

For my part: I have been debating statements made - that don’t have supporting evidence.
The whole point of this conversation is that the Bishops do not approve of the display of full-frontal naked photographs of dead bodies being put out on public display.
Actually no.

Your statement is misleading. You have setup this statement to sound like ALL Bishops are in agreement with TWO ONE for sure] Bishops “personal opinions” and their “personal boycott”.

It is not true.

You have consistently made statements that skew what the Bishops HAVE said - into something more.

That is what’s being debated:)

Well, the approved pro-life organizations seem to manage it - Hike for Life manages to get through a whole Saturday without people showing up with unapproved materials, or going off-message -
Hmmmm…March for Life IS approved - See here again you are skewing 🙂

“going off message” …The message is “abortion kills innocents” - " abortion is an abomination to humanity". Support your statement please. That March for Life is “off message.”
probably because the rules are really, really clear, and people who break the rules are escorted off the site of the demonstration by Knights of Columbus and God Squad members. 🤷
Probably because it’s a Catholic Organized Event - For Catholics mainly. March for Life is for ALL - Even Atheists who feel Abortion is an abomination to humanity.
I have also never seen anything unapproved happen at the October demonstration, and again, they have really clear rules, and people are expected to abide by them. People freely bring their children to these events because they know that nothing bad is going to happen.
AND people bring their children to March for Life. Please quit skewing things you can’t support.🙂

IMO Some here are ignorant of the fact of Archbishop Pendergast’s support :o

Here are some others that will be attending.

Archbishop Gerald Lacroix of Quebec,
Archbishop Thomas Collins of Toronto,
Toronto Eparch Stephen Chmilar

“I believe that the bishops’ support is important,” he said. “Each bishop, like each individual Catholic, needs to make a personal decision about how and in what circumstances to stand up for life, and whether they are compromised by one or other aspect of the March, including, for example, whether they are comfortable with the heckling of the counter-demonstrators.”
Archbishop Terrence Prendergast of Ottawa

Please ease up and reread Hawkeye’s post 😦
I absolutely will not if people come in here and feel that it’s open season on Bishops.

I don’t think you’re understanding the context.

First of All, Archbishop Pendergast made no such statements supporting the graphic images at all. He only talked about the March.

Secondly, the March in Ottawa is a bit different than the one in Edmonton. The one in Ottawa is the national March. You could go so far to say that Archbishop Pendergast is obligated to participate (an unwritten obligation). It’s called politics; the bishops have to play the game too. We also don’t know if the use of graphic images is as wide-spread in the Ottawa March.

And just as a personal note, could we keep the double posting to a minimum? We do have the ability to reply to more than one post in a single post. You don’t have to quote an entire post to respond to one part, and you don’t need a new post to reply to a different post. Just a blanket observation on my part, that is not aimed at any one person.

I absolutely will not if people come in here and feel that it’s open season on Bishops.
If you bothered to reread Hawkeye’s post - He/she was referring to HIS opinion of HIS Bishop. To take it anyway else is illogical IMO.

Who said he did? Can you give us a reference, please?

You talk “open season on bishops” yet make them political pawns in this statement?? .🤷

PS…Re: your request: Not all of us have the same capability to comply with your request. 🙂 Personally, I don’t see a problem 🤷

I tend to address statements made by others as I see fit… within the confines of CAF 🙂

Agree - very insulting.
IMO It’s not only insulting.

It’s not true. I, for one, would like to see the evidence of it.

Does anyone think, for a minute, it’s a political obligation?
To reduce a MORAL obligation i.e. the stopping of abortion - into a political obligation??? 😦

Peta does it, so why in the world should we not do it, right kimmie? Of course they’re a worldly organization, and we’re God’s Church, but that’s such a minor and irrelevant distinction, right? Your respect for authority (in this case a Forum Master) is nothing short of admirable. You’re probably not old enough yet to drink alcohol in all states/provinces of North America, yet you address jmcrae as if he/she was your annoying snotty 10 year old brother/sister.

PRIESTS FOR LIFE
By Bishop Kenneth J. Povish
If you read this newspaper, or any of the monthly Catholic magazines, or even articles about abortion in the “pro-choice” secular press, you have been seeing the name of Father Frank Pavone with increasing frequency in the past year. He is a priest of the Archdiocese of New York and has served on the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Family in years past.** In 1993 he was authorized by the late Cardinal John O’ Connor to lead the Priests for Life movement, recognized under Canon Law as an Association of the Faithful.**
It now has bishops, priests and deacons (including your writer), all over the United States and even abroad, committed to “assisting God’s people to proclaim, celebrate and serve the Gospel of Life.” Styling itself as “pro-woman, pro-family, and pro-life,” Priests For Life have a very public record of rejecting violence against abortion providers all the while stoutly defending the rights of the unborn.
In April, Father Pavone and Priests For Life received the “Proudly Pro-Life Award” from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) at its annual banquet at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. This was in recognition of the role of Father Pavone and his movement in the 2000 elections, wherein, without mentioning candidates’ names, they conveyed the message of truth and life to the public. Many in politics acknowledge the influence this had on the election, according to the NRLC.
In his response at the banquet, Father Pavone said, “There is a justifiable fear in the ranks of the pro-abortion movement. Abortion facilities are closing, workers are leaving and becoming pro-life, doctors are increasingly unwilling to perform abortions, and opinion polls keep moving in our direction.”
Then he announced the beginning of the effort to have a pro-life Senate in Washington after the 2002 mid-term elections.
SHOWING ABORTION
Priests for Life has been challenging the national and local media to show the American people on television what an abortion is. The pro-choice interests, so called, are horrified at the thought. Planned Parenthood, the Ford Foundation and the like pressure the sympathetic media to keep abortion off the TV screen. They know what happened when the partial-birth abortion procedure was shown on film to both houses of Congress during the last administration – the Congress passed laws twice banning this procedure, which is really infanticide; and it would have become law if Clinton had not vetoed it both times and if a few more Democrats had voted to overrule. If you want to see for yourself what an abortion does to an unborn child, go to the website at www.priestsforlife.org/images.
There is no excuse under the sun for keeping secret what is the most common surgery in America today, and at the same time the most divisive social problem. As Father Pavone of Priests for Life wrote in its July newsletter, "We will not solve the controversy over abortion in this country until more people see what it looks like."

Your respect for authority (in this case a Forum Master) is nothing short of admirable.
Is This is an appeal to authority logical fallacy???
You’re probably not old enough yet to drink alcohol in all states/provinces of North America,
Actually correct - BUT ad hominem attacks another logic fallacy ] do not make or break my statements. 🙂
yet you address jmcrae as if he/she was your annoying snotty 10 year old brother/sister.
Actually no.

The difference being I don’t do ad hominem attacks - I ask for support of statements made.

Is this unfair?
Disrespectful? 🤷.

I hope this helps:)

Not “respect to authority” as in “submit right away to anything a Forum Master says as if he was speaking ex-cathedra”, but the tone of some of your replies was not appropriate IMO. I knew about Priests for Life, they’re in favour of showing gruesome elements because “America won’t stop abortion, until America sees an abortion” , that’s their stance and I happen to disagree with it. You really think all it’d take to put an abrupt end to abortion would be to insert footage of an abortion between Sports and Weather Forecast segments in the 6PM new?

I remember Father John Corapi say in one talk that if he was Bishop of a Diocese where there was an abortion clinic, he’d rent the nearest place to that clinic he could find, and set up perpetual Eucharistic Adoration there and see the clinic close down. To me, that’s what Christian warfare, if you will, should be.

You seem to be seeing “logical fallacies” everywhere kimmie, even when there aren’t any. So be careful not to use it every time you don’t agree with someone. The bit about you not being able to drink alcohol everywhere in North America was not an ad hominem attack, just a friendly reminder that you’re still young, and perhaps you should cultivate humility more. For the good of this thread I’m signing off.
