Please, it is a joke. It wasn’t even an insult. Lighten up.
I would guess that you know that “open borders” is a made-up issue. The statistics that you cite indicate that 20% of claimants are approved. For the benefit of the 20% that are approved, all claims need to be adjudicated; and the rights of all claimants need to respected. But if 80% or so of claimants to refugee status are disapproved, what is the merit in open borders?
Was it? The modern passport and visa system is a somewhat new concept. But I don’t know that there were completely open borders. It is something I’d like to know more about. The Holy Family moved from one part of the Roman Empire to the other, basically like moving across state lines within the US. No illegal incursions on anyone else’s territory involved.
That case doesn’t need to be made. The reason for moving isn’t the point. The point is in comparing the governances and boarders of the time to the governances and boarders of today.Unless you’re prepared to make the case that Nebraska, say, would order the death of male children, so a family moved to Oregon to save the life of their new baby boy, it’s in no way analogous
Good point, so does the Federal government with the States. The Roman Empire largely left local law and custom intact as much as possible
Joseph did not move from Britain. Furthermore, this isn’t about culture. It’s about boarders and governances.Moving from, let us say, the province of Britain to Judea was not at all comparable to moving from New York to Connecticut.
Why should I believe “open b orders” is a “made up issue” when politicians talk about in and some even have advocated it?would guess that you know that “open borders” is a made-up issue. The statistics that you cite indicate that 20% of claimants are approved. Because this is the USA, all migrants should be treated humanely.
A change in culture and geographic location is not the point, as you should know. By your reasoning, any immigrant is a refugee. And they left their people, and their homes, to escape a dangerous situation, going to a foreign land with foreign people and foreign customs, in the hopes that their son’s life will be spared.
Seems pretty apt to me.
It’s exactly the point when we’re talking about refugees. The reason for moving isn’t the point.
I’ll give her a pass on that one. The fact is, Mary and Joseph and Jesus were refugees at one point, although admittedly we do not know if Jesus slept in a manger at any point during their time as refugees, and Jesus himself was quite clear about our duty to the poor and the hungry and those in prison. It’s exactly the point when we’re talking about refugees.
I think the same thing can be said of Trump, so it is really not much of a criticism.I shouldn’t have said she was “elected” by the “cult of personality”, but rather she is elevated to a national stature by the “cult of personality”.
While it is obvious that Ocasio-Cortez was comparing the plight of today’s migrants seeking asylum at the U.S. border to the experience of the Holy Family after the birth of Jesus, she did not write that as a refugee in Egypt Baby Jesus slept in a manger. According to scripture, Jesus was put in the manger because there was “no room for them in the inn.”I appreciate the sentiment to care for refugees but there is no record of a refugee baby in a manger on Christmas. That’s all.
