Born into nobility, she gave up all, including her health, to follow God. For this she is now in paradise. May we follow her example, and may we join her in heaven.

“If this is how you treat your friends, it’s no wonder you have so few.”

😳

“When I pray, I pray. And when I eat partridge, I eat partridge!

😋 😂

I love St Teresa of Avila! Dear St Teresa, pray for us!

Saint Teresa of Avila, Carmelite nun,
Wanted reform, and got it done,
She wasn’t shy, with much to say,
Including tips on how to pray,
A gifted mystic and formidable boss,
Advisor to Saint John of the Cross,
Our highest honor we now affix,
To this saint of today’s post 136.
My birthday patroness. I have a medal of her, that I bought from an Etsy shop two years ago, that depicts her dancing – there are stories of her dancing for her fellow nuns.

@MrZoom A blessed and happiest of birthdays! And God make this your best year yet! 🎂 🎉

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque’s vision,
Gave this nun a holy mission,
Our Lord told her that she should start,
Devotion to the Sacred Heart,
The means of many graces given,
We honor her now with post 137.

She was blessed to have visions of Jesus Christ, and she thought that was a normal part of human experience. Let us pray to be as blessed.

God bless!

His teachings still inspire the flock,
The Bishop, Ignatius of Antioch,
Who taught, while taken from town to town,
To Rome, to gain the martyr’s crown,
A Father of the Church so great,
And our saint for this post 138.

So many wonderful things about him. Bishop, Father of the Church, Martyr, Saint. Legend has it that he was the infant that Jesus took into his arms in Mark 9. WOW! Let us all one day be in the arms of Jesus.

Have a blessed day!

One of our local priests shared this on his Facebook page:

“Today is the feast of St. Ignatius of Antioch. As the Bishop of Antioch, in modern-day Syria, he was martyred under the Roman Emperor Trajan in the year 107.

Ignatius is a very important figure for establishing the historicity of Christ. There is only one major contemporary historical source (other than the New Testament) which mentions Jesus. Many modern secular historians deny that there is any reason to believe that Jesus was an historical figure who existed at all.

Ignatius who lived only a few decades after the crucifixion of Jesus, is clearly an actual historical person. His own letters and other contemporary sources from the time period testify to his existence and it is accepted by secular historians.

Ignatius himself says that he was ordained and appointed Bishop of Antioch by St. Polycarp, who himself claimed to have known the Apostle John. Thus, we have a known historical figure testifying to having been mentored by a direct successor of one of the 12 Apostles. This helps establish the actual historicity of not only the Apostle John, but by extension, Christ himself who called John as his apostle.”

About Saint Luke, here are the facts,
He wrote a Gospel and the Book of Acts,
He knew Our Lady and Saint Paul,
And later, wrote about it all,
We’re told he was a fine physician,
Who followed Paul on his great mission,
Therefore, I think it would be fine,
To honor him with post 139.

You honor Saint Luke well with your poem. Let us all honor him today by spending some time reading the Gospel according to Luke or the Acts of the Apostles.

Have a blessed day!

Glad I got that suggestion just as I’m about to say my prayers. I’ll pick the gospel.

The Order of the Passionists,
We know and love today exists,
Thanks to their founder and first boss,
Our saint today, Paul of the Cross,
Who saw, in Jesus suffering,
The great conversion it would bring,
He sent his members out to preach,
So grace and mercy we’ll beseech,
Let’s honor him for all he’s done,
As I do with post 141.

Paul was born into a pious family, and both he and one of his brothers became Priests. Parents are the first teachers, and their parents taught them well. May we all do as well.

Have a blessed day!

Today is also the feast of St Isaac Jogues.

I have a special love for this priest and martyr. He was tortured and a couple of his fingers were cut off. As a finger amputee myself, I feel a special connection, even though I didn’t mangle my hand in service of the gospel. 😊

I have a weird thumb (see pic). It was actually weirder when I was born, they did surgery on it to make it like it is. Perhaps I could also invoke St. Isaac Jogues as a patron?

Yes indeed!

In his statues, St Isaac Jogues is usually depicted with mangled hands. I’m sure he understands our unique struggles and prays for us. 😊

This is my hand. The remaining three fingers have their issues, but I can still play the piano. :+1:t4:

When I was in middle school, I played the clarinet in the school band, and I had a special splint for my thumb to compensate for my odd thumb.

Alas, I didn’t continue playing into high school.

You’re right! I got my days mixed up. Today is St. Paul of the Cross, whose poem I posted yesterday, so here is yesterday’s St. Isaac Jogues and Companions poem today 😊

When these missionaries came, with the Gospel to tell,
Their potential converts did not take it so well,
For Isaac Jogues and his confreres, things could not have been harder,
When each of these seven became an American Martyr,
A tragic end to their evangelical sortie,
And our saints of the day for post 140.

We will find people who do not want to hear the Good News. While we most probably will not lose our lives, we may be persecuted to some effect. Rejoice for being found worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name (Acts 5:40-42).

Have a blessed day!
