For this 176th poem, let’s get to know,
The priest and martyr, Blessed Miguel Pro,
He was shot to death in Mexico,
Only ninety-two years ago,
When the government there tried,
To push the Catholic Church aside,
His dying words still sound today,
“God bless you! Viva Cristo Rey!”

They thought that murdering him would silence the faithful, instead it inspired them. Let us be inspired by the Saints who preceded us and follow their example.

Saint Miguel Pro, pray for us!

Have a blessed day!

In Vietnam he found his flock,
The holy martyr, Saint Andrew Dung-Lac,
And when the government wanted him stilled,
He and his companions were killed,
That government’s gone, but the Faith still thrives,
So on this day, we honor their lives,
Except that today, instead we sing,
The glorious praises of Christ the King,
Uniting our voices with choirs of Heaven,
A wonderful thought for post 177.

By following Christ the King, Saint Andrew Dung-Loc and companions followed the pathway to heaven, where they now spend eternity with Him. Christ is THE King. May we also follow the way of the Cross.

Have a blessed day!

Saint Catherine of Alexandria was,
The pride of the early Church because,
She led many souls to a conversion,
And the threat of death was no aversion,
And so today we celebrate,
Her Feast with this post 178.

I was not aware until today that when she was martyred her body was taken away by angels. Awesome! If seeing that doesn’t convert you, nothing will. May we all live such a good life that the angels also take us up to heaven.

Saint Catherine, pray for us!

Have a blessed day!

Saint Sylvester, once ordained,
The worldly lifestyle he disdained,
So to a hermit’s cave he fled,
Where a vision of St. Benedict said,
“Take the disciples gathered 'round thee,
And build yourselves a monastery,”
And now among the Benedictines,
His descendants are known as Sylvestrines,
Let’s thank him as we prepare to dine,
A pre-Thanksgiving poem for post 179.

Wonderful poem about a wonderful man. Let us take time today to follow his example to listen to God.

Saint Sylvester pray for us!

Have a blessed day!

Sorry 😔, I had family staying at my place the last few days.

Today, a Jesuit champion,
The martyr, Saint Edmund Campion,
With the Church of England, he went along,
Until he saw he got it wrong,
And so he chose the Catholic path,
Which roused the Queen of England’s wrath,
They promptly executed him,
Like that would make the Faith grow dim,
But Faith grew stronger, all the more,
Our saint for this post 184.

Have a blessed first Sunday of Advent!

@christofirst, a great reason to step away from the internet for a few days and enjoy life with people we love. And upon your return, you give us a great poem about a great man, a man of faith. One of many examples where, as you pointed out, the blood of the martyrs is seed for thr faith.

Saint Edmund, pray for us!

Have a blessed day!

O God, who through the preaching of Saint Francis Xavier won many peoples to yourself, grant that the hearts of the faithful may burn with the same zeal for the faith and that Holy Church may everywhere rejoice in an abundance of offspring. (from today’s Morning Prayer)

The challenge we had on the old forum was to post just enough to keep the thread open but not so frequently that we hit the 1,000 post limit and it closed. Our goal was to have it stay open for five years. Hence the title of the thread.

Saint Edmund Campion is the inspiration for my user name! 😀

Now, what was I doing 27 days ago? It’s all a blur. 🤔
They promptly executed him,
Like that would make the Faith grow dim,
😄
