When Christians found themselves divided,
Saint Hilary the truth provided,
As Bishop from Poitiers, called to lead,
When the Early Church was most in need,
The Arian Heresy he denounced,
So a Doctor of the Church he was pronounced,
Above the fray, he’s now in Heaven,
Our saint of the day for post 227.

In God’s loving embrace, He held her,
The wife and mother, Macrina the Elder,
Who proves that we are often sainted,
Through those to whom we are acquainted,
Since many from her family,
Did reach the heights of sanctity,
Like Gregory of Nyssa and Basil the Great,
She’s our saint today for post 228.

A great woman who raised her family in the faith. I pray to do as well.

Have a blessed day!

In the desert of Egypt, he answered God’s call,
The First Hermit, known to us as Saint Paul,
He fled from the city to that dry, barren home,
We know of his life thanks to good St. Jerome,
He spent 90 years contemplating the Divine,
He’s our saint of the day for post 229.

Oh this touched my heart because I know because of my older sibling’s illness all my mother’s family and friends were praying for us… I know we were blessed from the beginning… 🙂

He spent 97 years living in a cave alone in the desert, during which time God provided for him. His trust in God is a great example for us all.

God bless!

Saint Priscilla offered her home,
To help St. Peter when he was in Rome,
In fact, she gave more than her house,
From her sainted son to her martyred spouse,
She funded an early catacomb,
And was herself martyred in Rome,
She helped the Church when we needed her most,
Our saint today for my 230th post.

She is mentioned six times in the Bible. I plan on reading these passages and pondering on them afterwards.

Have a blessed day!

“If perfect you would try to be,
Sell what you have and follow Me,”
Saint Anthony of the Desert heard,
And took to heart Christ’s holy word,
He lived at first in isolation,
And struggled greatly with temptation,
Soon disciples gathered round to stay,
To seek his wisdom and to pray,
He founded the Christian monastic way,
For post 231, he’s our saint of the day.

We should all take to heart the words of our Savior Jesus Christ. Saint Anthony found his way to heaven, may we all be as blessed.

Have a blessed day!

The Irish have, right from the start,
Gone out to preach, with all their heart,
To bring Christ’s saving word to us,
Like our saint today, Deicolus,
He joined Columban’s enterprise,
To travel and evangelize,
Until in Europe, racked by age,
He became a hermit and holy sage,
Still teaching that Good News he knew,
Our saint today for post 232.

His brother is also a Saint and he was friends with at least two other Saints. Being with good people is a good way to get to heaven, and being a good person is also recommended.

Have a blessed day!

Today we hail a Scottish man,
The bishop called Saint Nathalan,
Born rich, he gave all that away,
To help the poor and to better pray,
Made bishop while away at Rome,
He built many churches back at home,
During the seventh century,
Our saint for this post 233.

God blessed him with riches, and he in turn used them to bless others in making their lives better. God gave him the ultimate blessing of life eternal.

Have a blessed day!

Saint Fabian, by God’s mysterious love,
Was elected pope with the help of a dove,
A layman made pope, it was said,
When that dove landed on his head,
Which people then took as a sign,
Of guidance sent from the Divine,
Alas! He died the martyr’s way,
Our saint for my 234th post today.

The Holy Spirit at work! Let us all pray to recognize as clearly the Holy Spirit acting in our lives, and let us give thanks accordingly.

Have a blessed day!

Man, I’d like to be a saint some day and you would write a poem about me… 🙂 I like 'em!
