Anyone on here remember the old Catholic Answers forum?

Someone mentioned it just above but I do miss the old format in terms of its structure. I’m not as much of a fan as the endless feed layout of topics and posts.

It was interesting to see the new things on one side of the screen and a snippet of what was the latest post on another thread elsewhere.

That there were sock mods? One mod had a few different names.
I did not know that until just before the old platform closed. A user sent me a PM with the list of some of the moderator sock accounts. Always wanted to go back and see if their sock accounts ever argued with themselves… 😉

The main difference I see is that enough flagging her gets a topic locked before a moderator has time to review it. In the old forum, you “reported” instead…I don’t think a certain number of “reports” got a topic locked. That had to be done by the moderators.

But people did get banned and topics were locked/deleted under the old format.

And during the transition, many longtime users left. I was one of them for about a year but gradually was drawn back.

Did they explain the reason for removing it?

Happy Birthday!

I miss the old frame and colouring, but the old forum (because of those systems) had a cluttered feeling. And it was not smartphone friendly. Catholic-Questions.org

If you see something that, in your view, has been unjustly flagged, or for a trivial reason, you can request a moderator to review it. I’ve done that a few times and, more often than not, the mod has unflagged the post.

I miss the old system.

And my fan clubs. For some reason, they didn’t seem to transition to the new format.

Your fan clubs? 🤔 Perhaps they were the people that didn’t make the switchover?

It might actually be that. Look them up and you will probably see they haven’t posted since “the move” or shortly after.

We know it is not that you are unpopular! ☺️

I know my account is new, but I used to lurk on the Old Forums in highschool, I stopped in college for the most part and was very surprised by the new format. I also miss some of the old posters. And the Backfence.

I think flags are probably the most misused action we have. Often, it seems like some use it as an alternative to a thumbs down type action…meaning they disagree with a posters opinion, not that it is an inappropriate comment.
It is also used to silence a view that’s not popular. For example if a thread is talking about some good action by Trump and attracting lots of Trump supporters, and someone posts something critical, expect to get flagged. [Or the situation could be the reverse.].

I don’t think the mods had different names for the same moderator. I think that moderators had their moderator name and then a member ID. I’m pretty sure each mod was s different person.

Also moderators would jump in and give direction like, “please remember to be charitable”
