Are non-Catholics and Protestants who pulled Catholics away from their Catholic Faith, in danger of going to Hell?

I converted to the Church from Protestantism in '91 and I thought all was going to be well. I remember going into the Church and getting a sense of awe and loving the History I felt there, I had no trouble with the beliefs I even started praying the Rosary 6 months before I entered physically into the Church.

It was in College (An Assembly of God College) where my NT Professor changlled us to examine ourselves and see if our beliefs were our own or if they were just parroting our parents faith.

Well in my case I was parroting my parents, so I set out to find what I believed. I studied everything Christian and found the beauty and richness of Catholicism, I prayed and to reign in a long story I went home from College and went to the Church and was given instructions by a wonderful Priest, read all the history of the Church and everything. I was fine for a while and then doubt crept in, I looked at the waves around me and wavered back and forth many times now. When my parents both died in June I became Catholic again, than stopped going to Mass and went to a Baptist Church where I have been going up until tomorrow. My first Mass in 6 months with my wife who is a cradle Catholic.

This time it was a few threads here that made me want to try again and with God’s help and strength stay. I will pray for you, please pray for me.
Have you tried reading the Liturgy of the Hours yet? I find it to be very moving. I don’t like surface spirituality that just skims over the surface. When I was in the military, we would go to bed very late at night polishing boots in the dark and waking up to return to polishing boots again. Polishing or rather “spit shining” boots is more of an are than an action. You have to get a feel for it much like an artist or musician spends endless hours laboring over learning techniques. The task can be rather draining. But in the end the boots get so shiny that others accuse you of painting your boots. I was so dedicated and good at G.I. ing that I received way too many awards just for paying attention to detail. I found that the same dedication applied to faith is just as productive. My falling away was very complicated and involved several priests a deacon, some seminarians and scandal. I ran like the wind after exposure to it. I’m sad, yet relieved, that most of the clergy that I’m talking about have been laicized, some more scandalous than others. I offer penance for those folks now and pray that our Heavenly Father will have mercy on them and return forgive me for my sins. It’s part of my self-imposed penance. A work of love…for others. The Liturgy of the Hours helps me draw closer to God. I mean it’s amazing. We recited it in the seminary. I recited it when I met my wife and missed it all those years I was practicing her faith. I went so far as to look for a way to create my own that would not draw attention from the Chrisitans around me that would have paniced over it if they knew what it was. So I burried my head in scripture instead. I read so much stuff that if lead me back home eventually. It’s rather dishonest in my opinion to study all that history and still deny that the Catholic Church, both Western and Eastern Rites were the norm all the way back to the beginning. I discovered the Eastern Rites in about 1992 or 93 after seeing the news. It amazed me because much of what they did sounded like a mix of my Catholic and current faith. I’ve often contemplated going to the eastern Church, but I am Latin and my wife and oldest son have resisted, so I’ll stay where I am and be happy in it.

Going through the motions is a requirement when you’re not feeling the love so to speak. It’s hard, but just like you stick with your family, we stick with our God. He’s there…teaching us something to help us. Many times the lesson is difficult, but if we persist we will grow.

Edwn keep growing in your faith. I prayed that one day you do come home to the Catholic Church.

Peace 🙂
Focus on the Holy Eucharist, my friends… focus on the Holy Eucharist! Emmanuel, God is with us.

Didn’t He say, “I come quickly?”

How could they be in danger of going to hell when in fact it was the Holy Spirit that led them out?

I don’t know.

What I do know is that anything wrong we’ve done or continue to do will be brought to light when the Warning comes.

That’s when everyone will see the “error of their ways” and have a chance to change for the better.

Hello again SIA,

“when in fact it was the Holy Spirit that led them out”

What makes you think that your statement here is true and how do you know without any doubt that “in fact” it was the Holy Spirit?

- You don’t.

Does God speak to you personally?

- I doubt it.

· Isn’t it possible that the devil, who is a liar, can deceive and confuse people?

- Yes

· Isn’t it possible that some confuse their own logic, intellect and thoughts as being “the Holy Spirit” when it is actually all in their head?

- Yes

· Isn’t it possible that some lie about why they actually left the Catholic Church?

- Yes

Your thoughts?

Peace 🙂

how do you know that it wasn’t?? Are you willing to stake your soul on it? Did God speak to your magisterium personally? Is anything possible? Looks to me like you better question yourself instead of others.

Hello agian SIA,

I don’t think so…Why don’t you stop fighting it and stop trying to rationalize why it was ok, to leave the Catholic Church and come home?

If you were once a ‘cradle-Catholic”, then you know better and you know, deep down inside that what you are saying is wrong and that Christian truth is found in Catholicism. You are only fooling yourself.

I pray that one day that you will come home.

Quiet…shhh…

Jesus loves you! Jesus loves you! Jesus loves you!

Amen.

Peace 🙂

Why don’t you answer the question? How is it that you are so certain that I have not experienced the Holy Spirit in the Anglican Church?

I think the Catholics who leave are in much greater danger of condemnation…but only God knows the faith of each heart.

That’s true. I agree. There are many of us, Catholics, that need salvation. Actually, not just many of us but all of us and that includes you.
The difference though is that we, in the Catholic Church, have the holy sacraments to heal us and eventually to lead us to salvation.

I was one among those whom you are referring to in this post. I was once a lapsed Catholic. Although I have attended Mass frequently in the past I just sit or stand at the back. I only listened to Mass readings, listened to the homily, say peace with a stranger next to me and then leave. I never received the holy communion knowing that I haven’t gone to confession, fully aware that if I receive communion I might receive damnation instead! I have great reverence to the Holy Eucharist. I felt shame and heaviness in my heart everytime I leave the church. That went on for maybe 25 years!
One day I was in a crossroad of my life. To choose between going really bad (to hate) or to continue to love. I believe God thru the Holy Spirit led me to the right path. I looked at my past life, the sins I have commited, the people I hurt, the destruction I did to my life. I realized I can not and would not hate anymore because I chose love. And because I chose to love I resolved to amend my life. I was helpless at the time- no friends around to advise me. First thing I did was to go to confession. The priest was very supportive and he told me about the prodigal son. I couldn’t hold my tears inside the confessional. After he gave me the absolution I felt so relieved and forgiven. I had tears in my eyes when after 25 years I was again able to receive the sacred body of my Lord without the fear of condemnation! I knew from then on I am back home. I am once again proud to say I am a member of His body- the one holy catholic and apostolic church.
That’s the reason I don’t condemn anybody (really) because I always believe that there is probably an appropriate time for anyone’s conversion thru God’s mercy and grace. Most people we see are not mortal sinners. We should not make haste in judging them.We see in them small venial sins that can be committed in our day to day life. Venial sins that make us humans different from one another. Variety is a spice of life, sort of.

So, how do you know this? Have you been going to our church lately?

And my answer to the OP- Yes! If they know fully well that they are teaching errors that may lead to destruction of innocent souls. Yes, my answer is directed to pastors and ministers.

Hello again SIA,

I never said that, you are putting words in my mouth, why don’t you provide the exact quote of mine that you speak of and the quote of yours that I was responding to. Lets be honets now…

You are the one who said that people left the Catholic Church because they were moved by the Holy Spirit, or something like that….right?

How could I possibly answer this question, here…I don’t know you, so if you do have something special that you would like to share with all of us, I would be more than happy to read it.

Peace. 🙂

If you didn’t have any doubt that I experienced the Holy Spirit in the Anglican Church, then why would you tell me to stop fighting and come home? I don’t care that you don’t know me. Most of the Apostles didn’t know Jesus and who he really was even after he was laid in the tomb. But they knew and were enlightened in the most dramatic way at Pentecost because the Holy Spirit who came upon them was the same God who created them and who died for their sins. When the Holy Spirit comes, you just know and you have it abundantly all in an instance. God is great all the time!:crossrc:

It will, for everyone…
Hello SIA,

True…So what do you think about the question here? If Catholicism turns out to be the true expression of Christianity, then are those non-Catholics and Protestants who pulled Catholics away from their Catholic Faith, in danger of going to Hell?

I believe they are.

On the other hand, Catholicism is definitely a more orthodox expression of Christianity, than many non-Catholic Christian denominations. So, if a Catholic pulls someone from a denomination which is not as “strict”, I don’t believe that the Catholic is in danger. This is because, it is always better to do more… than it is, to not do enough…wouldn’t you agree…

Peace 🙂

Catechism of the Catholic Church

**817 **In fact, “in this one and only Church of God from its very beginnings there arose certain rifts, which the Apostle strongly censures as damnable. But in subsequent centuries much more serious dissensions appeared and large communities became separated from full communion with the Catholic Church - for which, often enough, men of both sides were to blame.” The ruptures that wound the unity of Christ’s Body - here we must distinguish heresy, apostasy, and schism - do not occur without human sin:
Where there are sins, there are also divisions, schisms, heresies, and disputes. Where there is virtue, however, there also are harmony and unity, from which arise the one heart and one soul of all believers.

What makes you think that any of us can really know who goes to heaven and hell? Who can even really know if there is a heaven or hell to be rewarded or condemned to?

You are judging people whom you don’t even know personally! You are putting people under one certain label and judging that they are evil enough to be tortured eternally without even meeting the individuals! Only a very cruel person could judge someone evil enough to be tortured eternally. In reality, no one deserves eternal torture. Can you not see the insanity of these harsh judgements?

I am not Christian, but do respect Jesus’ teachings. One of his main ones he emphasized was to not judge others and forgive. Why do you condemn your neighbor for the splinter in their eye when you cannot see the log in your own?
