Bishop orders priests to read anti-Obama letter at Sunday sermons

Not at all, Christine. It seems to me that now that Romney, if our posters and others are to be believed, is a shoe-in, it won’t matter if pro-Obama fence sitters go and vote for him. Effectively their votes are meaningless since they won’t count enough to overome Romney’s huge lead.

Their votes will be as worthless as the third party votes that are derided as pointless. So, if any votes are going to be useless, it will be those of the pro-Obama Catholics.

Perhaps you should re-read the bishop’s letter. I can’t see how any Christian could vote for the most most pro-abortion president in the history of our country.

Rich, I’m not one of those who believe Romney is a shoe-in. I desperately want Romney to win, but I believe he will likely lose Ohio and the electoral vote because of his loss in the Buckeye State. He may win the popular vote, but there is no consolation prize in presidential politics. Barely a footnote in history, like Dukakis.

However the Church is (or perhaps, rather, should be) the moral compass of the people and correspondingly, the Government. Heavens knows the Atheists certainly inflict their faith on Religous people via the Government.:cool:
 
Shall I start my excessive consumption of alcohol now?🙂 I admit that I will be severely depressed if Obama wins another four year term. I can only thank my lucky stars that the Republicans will very likely win additional seats in the House, thus allowing the GOP to thwart much of Obama’s quasi-socialist agenda. If we didn’t have such dingalings in some of the Senate races, we (GOP) might have been able to evict Harry Reid too. It is looking like a very, very, very long four years.

Methinks the Bishops would indeed advocate for the Democrats- **if **the Democrats would advocate for Pro life. :rolleyes:

Not me! See post #81. I hope for a GOP victory, but I’m not betting all the money in my wallet (who cares about a piddly $25 anyway).

Oh I know. You and I may be on opposite sides of this battle but we share a nervousness of the outcome.

Three weeks ago I was sure it was going to be Obama. After the first debate in which he seems to have been sleep walking things have changed.

Folks will certainly be watching debates in the future more closely.

I do think that if Obama wins, a GOP will take it in 4 years. Americans rarely like more than 8 years with one party. The GOP also has a few young “stars” ready to go.

The left has Cory Booker who I think is pretty awesome but that’s the main one at this point.

I don’t mean to ask anyone to think too much, but the letter applies to the election, not just the presidential election.

And Al, for the record, the USCCB document does not mention Obama either, or excuse voting for him. I assure Pope Benedict never mentioned it either. Voting for someone who supports abortion may be allowable in a very narrow range of circumstances. The cause would have to be proportional to abortion, which would really narrow down that range.

I actually thought Cory Booker was a much better candidate than Obama years ago. Have you ever heard him speak? Brilliant man, excellent politician. As a GOP guy, he concerns me with respect to future races. Knows how to speak bipartisan language fluently and could very well appeal to independents. He has a credible presentation. I hope somebody offers him a great job making a million bucks per year plus, just so long as they keep him out of presidential politics. I actually like the guy personally, but not politically.
