Standing in the shoes of the persons whose lifelong work has been shattered, what can you understand, Rubee?
I said understanding the violence does not mean agreeing with it. How can I do that? Well, I have been in a society that “went berserk” and acted violently after years of the people in charge not doing things to change the problem. No social unrest happens out of the blue. If you want to stop them happening, it helps not to assume it’s just happening for no reason than ‘bad people.’ Most humans have a ‘very bad person’ hiding in their unconscious who will come out when the environmental pressures are suitable.

What reason is there to destroy that you understand?
I neither agree with it nor understand it.
It doesn’t enter my head if it is better explained this way. You’ve got to be out of your senses to do sth like that or have started with smaller violent things. And allowed violence to grow til you feel comfortable at that point…
Or maybe have somebody fueling that into your head.
Not saying “ you” “ your “ meaning you Rubee.
Reasons to rebel against injustices , I find plenty. To destroy lives that way , I find none…

That’s exactly right. People seem to go mad on a mass scale when there are sufficient factors to tilt things that way. I’ve never understood why anyone goes to war or why, once in a war, they act like animals or worse than animals; that’s because it really is, on a level, a kind of insanity. And it happens all throughout history. It’s better to work on the environment/social factors to ensure such things do not happen, because history shows us most humans, when civility breaks down, are not as sane as laws make us seem.

Or where the lure of a wild party and free stuff entices them. My cynical take on the protests is exactly that. This isn’t about change or justice. It’s free stuff and the ability to act like a savage. Lord of the Flies.

I’m sure there are those elements; but I am highly skeptical that that’s the only factor here.

Thank you. My family have lived here in Longfellow for several years. And I have never seen such an influx of out of state vehicles from places like FL and TX and OH as the past few week. These people have been roving our streets at night planning incindiary bootles of gasoline and other accelerants behind buildings. Our neighborhood association has been flooded with reports of suspicious and predatory behavior from individuals they’ve watched and sometimes confronted with camouflage clothing, armed, and frequently displaying tats from white nationalist orgs.

The National Guard has named the Aryan Nation as its target here and it makes sense given how black owned businesses have been targeted.

There are no Antifa here that we’ve identified. Every offender so far has been either opportunistic individuals looking to loot and damage property from other parts of the city or more frequently, white men from the exoburbs and out of state. Who all frequently look like dead ringers for Duck Dynasty.

Anger is a justifiable emotion and response. Rage is an all encompassing, irrational response. What I’m sure some of the protestors feel is rage. In which case they’re acting irrationally and shouldn’t be listened to as rage blinds one to reason.

Oh and regarding the business owner in the original topic, he’s raised over $900K so far (a small bit which I happily donated).

I encourage people who are looking to help to donate to him or to welovelakestreet.com where 100% of donations go straight to helping businesses rebuild.

It depends on what you mean by “listened to.” An irrational reaction on a large scale calls for understanding if one does not want it to happen. After all, someone reacting with rage does not mean the wrong that titled them that way shouldn’t be addressed.

When they are ready to act reasonably then you listen to them. Ever had a temper tantrum when you were a kid and your dad said “when you can act like a human being we can talk?”

What an absurd statement, given Duck Dynasty is hardly poor. These malevolent actors are comparable because they look like hunters.

Then cease deliberately applying your own meaning to my posts. You continue to respond to various posts in an insincere and combative fashion. Either engage honestly or I’ll start flagging.

I’ll leave it to the moderators to determine your sincerity. Flagged.

A person reacting with rage to a series of grave wrongs that make them feel literally in danger is so different from a child throwing a temper tantrum at their loving parent that I feel our understanding of this general issue is very much at odds.

For example, one is entitled to assume that the child’s tantrum is not because they literally think their parent will kill them.

Perhaps. Let me ask you this, does this level of chaos contribute to the common good?
