I’m sorry, Aprilfloyd, but you’re not going to get any change out of us.

Please, everyone, stop this. There is no convincing Aprilfloyd of the Truth. We must just pray for him.

I don’t expect any. It is one of the things I find interesting about Catholics.

It is not important what I believe is the truth. It is what actually is the Truth. Find out what that is and I will believe. Unlike Catholics I am free to change my mind. 🙂

I am still ‘raised catholic’ 🙂
Cute answer, but meaningless in this context.

Are you currently a practicing Catholic? Do you believe in the tenets of the faith?

I was ‘raised Catholic’ as well, but was an atheist for 25 years. While I could have used that designation during those 25 years, it would have been dishonest as to who I was at that time.

Much of what you post on this thread is quite non-Catholic, or at least ‘uneducated Catholic’, or possibly cafeteria Catholic. I’m just trying to figure out exactly where you are coming from in terms of your comments so that I can determine how to reply to your statements.

It’s not a defect. With all due respect Buffalo, evolution is accepted science, that ship has sailed whether you are on it or not.

Put two men on the island and see how they evolve.

Put two women and see how they evolve.

I know, you know evolution does not work like that and wonder why you say these things. I think the issue here is why people look for any and every reason to maintain their position against it. Homosexuality evolved in the group known as humans.
Whoah - you are way out there now.

The human body (male and female) are complementary and designed to procreate. The ability not to procreate would be a defect. All life has to procreate to continue on. This is basic stuff.

Hello, they wouldn’t have a chance to evolve for they would be dead. It is up to you to now prove that there is a fitness and selection reason for homosexuality. Got any? Nope. you won’t find any, since there aren’t any.

The reason it is with us today is because it IS NOT genetic.

Mama, intercede on behalf of this entire broken world! We desperately need your help. We don’t know what’s good and evil anymore. We call evil good and good evil. Help us, Mama!

Are you being faux naive?

Of course life has to procreate to continue, so are you being obtuse to not follow that.
Do you think that homosexuals are not created the same way as heterosexuals.?

You are funny Buffalo and I enjoy the badinage, but come on now. I suspect that you are deliberately pretending to know less about evolution than you do - why is that?

The human species has managed to keep the trait for homosexuality as an inherent part for 1,000s and 1,000s of years. Homosexuality has evolved to avoid extinction and flourish.
Do you really believe what you say?

Have you ever seen my ID stuff? 😉

There is no evidence for a gay gene. However, we are beginning to understand epigenetics. No doubt you were taught that behavior and environmental changes could not be passed to offspring. Well, that may not be so. How does that affect us? One could have a predisposition to alcoholism, or stealing. As responsible humans we are called to overcome these desires through self mastery. We wouldn’t call upon other citizens to make laws to protect our failings, much less embrace and champion them.

Catholics do not believe that God creates us directly. We understand our parents part in this. We understand He directly creates our soul.

Had we still had our prototypical body as Adam and Eve had together with the preternatural gifts we would be human perfection. Geneticists understand we are devolving 3-5% each generation. That means that we have 200 or so more mutations to deal with than our parents and so on. After the fall we became subject of desires of the flesh and homosexual acts came with that. These are behavioral issues.

Heterosexual marriage is natural and beneficial to society and children. The other is not and lowers the bar.

The Church is not wrong on this at all.
What does “lower the bar” mean? It sounds like an equivocation, “homosexual marriage is wrong because it’s wrong.”

The employer would escape legal repercussions if he kept his homophobia to himself and does not discriminate against homosexuals or heterosexuals for that matter

I don’t see how it affects people who are not involved with the heterosexual couple who may get married - it is non of our business.

Brendan, I appreciate that Catholics believe in the idea of ‘Souls’ and I respect your right to believe that - but it’s just a religious view - that’s all. It does not have any bearing on those who do not believe the Catholic faith
uuuuhhhhh, …WHAT?! Even Protestants believe that Homosexuality is disordered,
some even believe that homosexuals can be “deprogrammed” And BTW, there are athiests
and agnostics that believe homosexuality is wrong.

As an open question, Why do Catholics have such an issue with homosexual marriage. Is it because their doctrine forces them and they cannot look at it objectively. Maybe the Church on this issue is just wrong.
As to the argument that this is a “Catholic” only issue (re: support of traditional marriage), it’s not. As the OP, I’m not even Catholic, if you look at my info. Plus, there are a lot of other Christians supporting traditional marriage, plus Islam and the LDS church. So to think only Catholics are flawed in their thinking is incorrect. We’re not giving up our conviction that God deems marriage as sacred and a covenant (or as Catholics believe) a sacrament.

Do you support polygamy? That’s illegal as well. If we redefine marriage other than being between one man and one woman, where does it stop? Why not throw the entire institution of marriage out of the window?

You’re not keeping very good company, are you?

It does not serve the common good or protect the rights of children. To allow it for the sake of 2% of the population does not raise the bar, it lowers it.

We should raise the bar by encouraging strong families with both parents in the home. Tax policies should incentivize this. Stronger families means less crime and less enforcement costs, healthier families and lower medical (repair) costs.

The homosexual argument is one of “I want what they have because I want it”. Hardly a selfless reason.

What is that supposed to mean? I was just stating the facts that it is not just the Catholics who support traditional marriage in charity. Yes, I know of a nice Mormon family and respectfully disagree with their beliefs, as I am sure you do my Lutheran theology.

It does not serve the common good
How so?
or protect the rights of children.
How so?

These are all declaratory statements so far, you’re not explaining the why/how.
To allow it for the sake of 2% of the population
Irrelevant.

I agree with that. What does that have to do with this though?

I don’t disagree with this, as a general idea. But again what is the relevance?

Strawman? I think the argument is probably a lot deeper than that. We’re talking about people who love each other, desiring to be able to see each other in the hospital, to manage their finances jointly, etc.

What is that supposed to mean?
Well, I was just kidding. Islam and LDS around here, you know… not exactly like Lutherans or Baptists…

I probably agree with your Lutheran theology about as much as I agree with Catholic theology. 😛

Many people love. Some love their animals, some love children in the wrong way. Just because you emotionally love does not make it in your own best interests, much less society’s.

Right now, any two humans can go see a lawyer and make up a will.

Should our laws be made to increase the common good or decrease it?
