I think they’ll be around for awhile. Even Scouts Canada is still around, abiet they had to go fully co-ed to get the numbers back to levels that can keep the lights on.While I could be wrong, I think the scouts are finished…
But it is going to be the end of the BSA as having an effective lock on boys scouting programs. And that is not necessarily bad. Other countries run with Catholic scouting based programs, and that would not be a bad practice here.
My goal as a scouter is to develop boys into faith filled Catholic young men. Nothing more, nothing less. While I have lots of years invested in the BSA, it is simply a tool to achieve my goal, not the goal itself.
So if a better tool comes along, I will use that tool.
And this issue has really spawned some great programs that we are investigating.
