Can we stop arguing and support each other?

I’m asking. 😃
Oh I suppose I’d be classified as a Georgist of some sort. Perhaps even a geolibertarian as they’re called, like Albert Jay Nock and Frank Chodorov were.

I do read a variety of schools of thought, however. Mutualists, libertarians, classical liberals, socialists, anarchists. I like finding nuggets of wisdom where I can find them. Right now I’m interested in autonomist Marxism.

(sigh) After reading just the first couple of dozen posts, I guess not. It is a nice sentiment, though.
It was a pipe dream. This nation is way too divided.
How about instead of asking people if it can be done, which right now seems kind of impossible, we ask, what would need to happen for people to be able to unite?
Got to get rid of the hate on both sides for starters.
Let me translate: unity means surrender your values an accept the progressive platform. They are not establishing a middle ground to work from; they just want conservatives to concede.

The road is not one way. It is a two way street.

Who are you translating for? Biden is calling for unity, but has not offered a path to unity.

Can we at least wait until the summer before this claim is made? He will not even take office until January 20th. For that matter, there are a lot of people in the GOP that do not even yet see him as the POTUS-elect.

There are a lot of calls from the Democrats for a time to heal. Join together. Unify. and all of that.

Yet they keep denying the legitimacy of recounts, investigations into voter fraud, and keep saying things like this (from Democrat Andrew Cuomo just yesterday) . . . .

So my conclusions based on such actions are . . . .
this is attempted manipulation of public opionion.

I am not falling for it.

That’s a new yorker for you.

You have no idea.

Married a girl from Connecticut. Her brothers were born and raised in NYC.

I’ve known people born and raised in New York–you hit it right on the head!

. I still try to love these people as we are taught to, but it becomes difficult when they refuse to listen to my side and to why I feel that way.
This is only anecdotal.

But I found myself many times over the last four years trying to use reflective listening/therapeutic language style conversation with liberal friends and acquaintances because they were so flipping out about the election.

But I began to notice I never seemed to get “my chance” to hold forth.

OTOH, I didn’t lose any friends or family over the election, and people have told me I’m easy to talk to.

But OTOH, these conversations were more one-sided rants than true exchange of ideas.

And OTOOH, and TBF, I’m not that great at thinking on my feet, so my inability to steer the conversation and get “my turn” might be my fault.

Does not the Republicans want Unity as well?
Not the same sort of unity as the Democrats.

Last time the Ds called for unity and bipartisanship was when Bush was elected in 2000. But it was back to “elections have consequences” when Obama was elected.

My impression of what the Ds call unity is complete adherence to their ideas.

The Rs do not strike me as that dogmatic. I would say their philosophy requests back-and-forth discussion for the purpose of finding truth or a best solution. Maybe one could say they want a unity of underlying principles: truth is a good thing, virtue is a good thing, thinking and discussing are good things.

That’s really an excellent question.

I don’t relish conflict, and really value straightforwardness and collaboration, cooperation, etc.

But I’m not sure it’s possible anymore.

This doesn’t make me happy.

But for instance, while you can compromise on what percent of the budget goes to defense or social welfare, there is no real compromise on something like abortion. (There’s no half-abortion)

So yes, I want unity, but I don’t think it’s possoble ATM.

Just a quick correction of what Hillary said to Biden - but it really changes the context:“Whatever happens, do not concede defeat on the night of the Nov. 3 election.”
