Excuse me, are you also CB? Because I wrote my post to CB, telling her to tell me in her own words what she wanted me know, I don’t rely on what others say to convey my message and I don’t allow others to use the words of someone else to tell me what they want to say
I will not impose a reading assignment on you. I will not read what you assign.
So your response: “same thing etc…” makes no sense to me. Want to try again?

Why in the world do you guys keep saying that we hate the gay community??? What we hate is the promotion of sin! Did the priest promote the sin by walking in the parade? What message was it bringing to those watching the parade?

To me, the message was that the parish wanted to include Gays in their community.
Some of the posts on this thread have used some words that certainly sound hateful…
for example, the term “buggery” which was used by someone who professes to be a Catholic.

This thread is about a priest who walked in a parade. I do not see how/when RCC doctrine prohibits this or even discourages it. I am not sure that you are even aware of the case.
yes, i am aware. like i said, this is not the teachings of the Church, to go parade for gays rights. it is contrary to teachings of the Church. that is all that matters.

This was the notice handed out at the service. I don’t think you read it:

NYC’s 41st Annual LGBT Pride March
*Sunday, June 27, 2010

The Church of St. Francis Xavier is the only Roman Catholic Church in New York City—maybe one of a handful in the world—to participate in the Pride March. We welcome all, as did Jesus. So we ask you to consider walking with the LGBT ministries on Pride Sunday, June 27, and represent a church that truly lives the Gospel. Many of us will attend the 9:00 am or 11:30 am Mass and then head uptown to where the group will meet [location to be determined on June 21].

Each year, through our presence and our handing out of flyers, a number of people find their way to St. Francis Xavier to return to the sacraments and to find their place in the Catholic Church.

We look forward to spending this day of celebration, ministry and the living out of our mission statement together as a parish. If you have any questions, please e-mail SFXWomen@aol.com or SFXGCGroup@gmail.com, or call (917) 297-6804.*

The purpose is to bring Catholics back to the sacraments. Isn’t that what you want?

I’ll be gone soon as well. But you guys simply can’t handle the fact there are people who oppose your insistence that you have a right to bigotry

Actually, the Catholics are not the only ones who feel this way, I’ve seen this from a lot of
fundamentalists as well. And they do have a right to practice what I perceive as bigotry
but it’s confusing when they seem to justify their actions by bringing in Jesus.

Jesus didn’t say anything about the Gays.

Here is what one blogger posted as an email from Father Joseph Constantino in explanation of his general position re gays:

Like Jesus, who founded the Church, we minister to all peoples, Jews and Gentiles, saint and sinners, rich and poor. We are to be compassionate and loving to all, would you not agree? We have a welcome table in which the poor are fed, a place each night for the homeless to be sheltered, an opportunity each week for families with children to gather for catechesis, a place for young adults to explore what it is to be single in NYC, and yes we also provide an opportunity for those with same sex orientation to gather to explore together how to spiritually grow closer to God. Being male or female, black, white, Asian or Latino is a given as is being heterosexual, bisexual or gay. Minsitering to all these various people created by God is not suggesting anything but care and compassion. I am sorry if you think welcome and outreach along with love and care for all peoples without discrimination is not Catholic or of Christ. However, we here at St. Francis Xavier endeavor to follow as closely as we can the Gospels which show Jesus time and again as one who welcomed, ministered, healed, and eat [sic] with all sorts of people. I trust you and all Catholics who profess to follow Jesus as disciples are each and every day doing so as well without prejudice or discrimination, but showing in word and deed enormous love and compassion for saint and sinner alike.

It could of course be entirely fraudulent, so I offer it with caveats.

The thing is that we all welcome gays into the Church, that’s not a problem because as Jesus did, we also need to eat and be with sinners and the poor and those on the fringe of society. No problem whatsoever.

The problems come in when when a parish is reminding everyone about what Jesus did but forgets that He also healed and said “Sin no more” The problems come in when a parish only remembers bits and pieces of Holy Scriptures and allows poor souls to be lost! Actually the are doing worst than allowing them to be lost, they are actually giving them the knife in which to kill themselves with!

1 Corinthians 11:29 29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body

To partake of the Sacrament of the Eucharist (which this parish so proudly claims they are bringing to the gay community) one must not have mortal sins upon the soul. Now, if people are going to confession before their reception of the Eucharist, are they really doing a good confession? A good confession means that the confessor does not intend to do the sin again… otherwise the confession in invalid and makes the sin of receiving the Eucharist in that state doubly bad.

I’m basing my own comment on the FaceBook comment by a lesbian parishioner wrote on that page.

I started attending St. Francis in 1998 before I was out. On the way to mass one week, I was met by two angels. They asked me where 6th Ave was. I told them and they ran off wishing me, “Happy Pride!” I followed them instead of going to mass, later came out and am now happily (legally!) married to my wife of 10 years in Boston. I always treasure the memory of this church and welcome I received there. I mean. Met by angels!

To me it says that the lifestyle is encouraged rather than being like Jesus and administering to them and then telling them to sin no more:eek:

Excuse you is correct, you post on a public forum and as long as the moderarots allow me to be a member and I don’t bash on you I can respond to your comments especially if it comes on to defending God’s Church and my fellow Catholics, that my friend is true unity in the Church. And my response was that you we are telling YOU what we believe yet you only take what you want to hear ie… “we hate gays”

What God does is his business.

Listen to one parishoner named Stephanie " I can be fully who I am there in relationship with my partner" HHmmm last time I check this usually mean you are promiscuous with someone and since she failed to mention that her partner is a man I can assume this is another woman. Another thing why wear the rainbow during mass? This would be like me wearing a t-shirt procaling that I am “player” and have many women. This is exactly what we are against, not that fact that a person that suffers from same-sex attraction is looking for the Lord.

👍 Awsome

Wow that YouTube link was enlightning. I guess I was right, the parish is killing souls by the thousands afterall. This woman who can be herself with her partner within that Church (I’m hesitating typing out Church with a capital C when referring to it)" was shown in the procession toward the reception of the Eucharist. Such a sad sad situation.

Then why are you on a discussion forum?

I have always felt that Paul went far beyond what Jesus did and would have cared about in terms of gender and sexuality. I have never considered all of Paul’s comments to be equally valuable.

Soudns to me like pick and choose. Jesus chose him to be a deciple, and a great one as well.

Paul was imperfect. I do not claim that he was not a great disciple.

And we ALL pick and choose from the Bible. I have not yet met a person or a Christian institution that did not pick and choose and establish hierarchies of values from the Bible and even erect justifications for dismissing certain less palatable elements of Biblical precepts. But I do not presently believe in God, so my “picking” is quite narrow.

I see, but in my opinion if it didn’t matter to Jesus it doesn’t matter to me. I do not equate
Jesus with St Paul.
