Our antagonist got banned. This shouldn’t be a surprise as he/she kept defying Church teaching. Personal interpretation will get you into trouble every time as Luther and Henry XVIII proved. Follow Christ’s teaching in the Church and you’ve got a good shot at Heaven. May God bless you,.

As I said, the only argument against homosexuality is that according to some believers, a supernatural being has inspired some men to write against it. And, as I noted, this argument, outside the circle of believers, is a weak one.
Take it up with the Church.

Here is one big advantage to staying with Christ’s Church instead of breaking away with Luther or Henry XVI. You don’t have to think. You don’t have to exert personal interpretation or opinion. The Church is One, Holy, Apostolic, and directly linked to God. No other church can support that lineage.

God says sodomy is a sin. That’s all we need to know.

I can’t imagine that “not thinking” is what the RCC advocates. I just don’t believe that. That is unimaginable to me. Some of the greatest thinkers of history have been Catholic.

You are right. The Church has thought about it and decided sodomy is wrong. See Sodom and Gomorah. Our modern morally relativist anything goes times may be in conflict, but God’s Church supercedes such trends and diversions.

This same parish holds Zen meditation and wants to dissent even further…

This is the Facebook page of St. Francis Xavier parish where it states “all are welcome” and you see a rainbow carpet on the altar steps. God help us!

Sweet. I’m checking it out. The FB page, I mean.

I see nothing wrong with this church reaching out to ALL people who seek Christ. Good for him.
Mind, I’m not Christian, either, so I don’t quite get the outrage. Then again, this is one of the reasons WHY I have a problem with organized religion. Didn’t Jesus say that god is love?

I guess you don’t realize this was a parody of someone else’s post. If this was an ‘insult’, then it seems you excuse insults as long as they’re hurled by Catholics.

I don’t care if it doesn’t ‘condone sodomy’. What I DO care about are its ugly teachings and their effects on society. It’s no surprise you can’t handle the arguments and retreat into dogma. As to ‘changing’ it, the Church has changed its position on many issues where it used to preach hatred. This is just another.

My motivation is to have Catholics who support this bigotry at least accept it AS bigotry. If you’re going to be a bigot, OWN that fact. Face it. You’re a bigot. Admit it and be done with it.
No surprise here somone who just has an excuse to attack the Church, once again your arguments are all based on emotion. Well you also have to admit that you are a hypocrite, because you don’t want faithful Catholics to worship according to the Church teaching so you admit to your sin of hypocricy
Their bulletin clearly mentions that many people find their way back to “a return to the
the sacraments.”

Any knowledgeable Catholic would or should find that statement “compelling.”
What does anyone do when they go to the sacraments?
So many stay away these days. So what’s the attraction here? And who can say
what is the motive of each soul?

Non-Catholics would have no experience in this area, due to the sacramental encounter with Jesus Christ. It has to be experienced one on one with the priest.
Quite a unique quality. So what is the desire of the returnees?
**The problem is not bringing those outisde the Church into the Church but to bring them in and allow or even promote their sinful lifestyle. This is where true Catholic teaching and this fake “spirit of vatican 2” collide. **
Larkin31 posted the reference to the fact most people have tried oral, if not anal sex, with the latter at 40%. Catholics are not exempt. As to the bible, I suggest you check out Ephesians 6:5 and let me know if slaves should obey their masters.

At that time slavery was prominent, the Church was just growing, how can you expect one to go against slavery when most of the time you are worried about being killed and persecuted? You keep bringing things up that don’t involve the topic

Ah, so when the church is growing, then sin is not sin. Funny how homosexuality was a sin then, but not slavery…because the church was ‘growing’. Homosexuallity has been a sin since the begining

**Cigaret smoking leads to death for 1/3 of all smokers. Lack of healthcare for gay partners leads to death, etc etc. And it’s their choice. It’s none of your business. ** True but once again I will shot your hypocrisy in a later statement

Again this is more politcal, but promotica gay acts is a sin, and Church will not change her way not matter how you feel about it

Yeah they used to say that about Jews and Christians marrying, too. See the 4th Lateran Council of 1215.
bpuharic;6820852:
Get this through your head: the same arguments used to be used against blacks and whites, Jews and Christians, etc.

No, I don’t care what God says. What I care about is the law. And right now, because of bigotry, people who love each other, and wish to spend their lives together, can’t, because of bigotry.
We care what God says because He is our maker GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!
What God does is his business. How it affects people is mine. And the bigotry attributed to God is denying people their rights. Here we go more hypocrisy, you state that it’s non of our business with what gays do out in public, or if somone wants to die of smoking, yet you make it your business to try to change Church teaching, it sounds to me like you are the Anti-catholic bigot my friend
If this issue were only like eating meat on Friday, then it would be none of my business. But denying people equal protection under the law because of their homosexuality is bigotry. Catholic doctrine is free to be as homophobic as it wants. When it affects non-Catholics, then it’s a matter of concern. This is something that you have to take up with the Government, not the Church, but remember we the Church are part of this world as well and have every right to vote against something the is wrong in our eyes

Your arguments are weak at best, I am sorry to say you only present an emotional argument with no facts and a lot of lies.

and what does that mean to you, God is love?

can you show me in the NT, where Jesus advocates for gay agenda?

Being Catholic is disordered. Is that bigoted? Yep. So is your statement about gays. As to your children, what if I don’t want my children exposed to Catholics? Bigoted? Yep.

I used to BE Catholic. I probably know more about it than you do. And spare me the amateur psychologizing. You call it sin? I call YOUR view ‘sin’. And being gay is no more an illness like alcoholism than being Catholic is like an illness. You keep telling me that people have a right to bigotry; that it’s ‘irrational’ to oppose your bigotry. Fine. So if someone oppresses Catholics, we should support that because it’s intolerant not to. Nonsense!
Lol ok I am going to go to your lever, dude you are craking me up bro. All these statements you post are making me laugh so hard I can’t bare to keep reading anymore of your “argument”(?) If you are a lapse Catholic than I am sorry for you I will say a prayer for you, if you really knew anthing about the faith, you would not be acting out the way you are. So much hatred towards the one true Church, why? Did a nun hit you? I know you might not be able to repond since your current status, but I hope you pray to God to lead you back to the true Church. God bless.

No one here is advocating this position. You are arguing against a strawman.

Do you oppose efforts by some priests to be more inclusive of gays? (back to the topic?)

Do you know what a Strawman argument is?

What I oppose is what I’ve stated. Please don’t try and twist my words or argument.

I support the Church’s position on homosexuality. Do you?

Of course the Catholic Church reaches out to all people. And what do you prefer then --‘disorganized’ religion? How is THAT helpful? A bunch of people having ‘religious thoughts’ but not ever able to bring them into a useful cohesive whole? That isn’t helpful either. . .

But imagine a person approaching a scene where a man is being pummeled by another man trying to steal his wallet and saying, “hello both of you people. In the spirit of love and charity I am going to tell both of you, God is love and He loves you both just the way you are”. . .and walking away without trying to stop the first man from being beaten and robbed. In fact St. James refers in his letter thus: "If you see a brother who is cold and hungry, and walk by him saying, ‘good bye and good luck, keep warm and well fed, but you yourself do nothing to help him, your ‘faith’ is worthless.’

So letting people do all kinds of sinful actions without telling them how and why they are sinning, or not trying to help them to stop sinning, isn’t really all that helpful, is it? Would you let your child reach up onto a hot stove because he whined and fussed and really WANTED to touch it, and you didn’t have the HEART to say 'no?"

God is love, but love doesn’t mean letting a person be hurt, or allowing a person to hurt another person, and claiming that ‘love’ keeps you from ‘interfering’ or imposing to stop the hurt.

Sheesh, it’s no wonder we are having so much trouble between men and women, husbands and wives, parents and children, ‘human and human.’ Nobody wants anybody but himself or herself to have any authority whatsoever. Parents don’t want to ‘parent’ the child because the child will ‘resent’ him or her. Children don’t want to be ‘subordinate’ to a parent. Women don’t want men to ‘dominate’ them and men don’t want women to dominate them. And NOBODY but NOBODY wants any kind of ‘institution’ or even a supreme BEING to be ‘better than’ they are, or to know more than they do, or to ‘tell them’ to do anything they don’t want to do. Each person wants to be head of the “Church of ME.” Even JESUS isn’t ‘necessary’ as 9 out of 10 people today will tell you variations of "If God says X, He isn’t god for me."

If God really does teach X, I want no part of Him.
MY God would NEVER teach X.
A real God would never ask X.

The human universe has gone insane, literally, through pride and arrogance.

I did not twist youre words. In reply to me you implied that supprt for gay marriage is the equivalent of “anythiung goes”, which is clearly false and not what anyone here stated. Thus, you are arguing against a position that only you yourself have erected, WHICH IS A STRAWMAN ARGUMENT.

cf: A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent’s position.[1] To “attack a straw man” is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar yet weaker proposition (the “straw man”), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position.[1][2]

No one here is advocating this position. You are arguing against a strawman.

If by ‘inclusive’, you mean reaching out to help these people to live chaste lives in service to God, just as we also would hope that heterosexuals should also be taught to live chaste lives for God, then I’m all for making gay people know that they are as ‘welcome’ in the church as any other people.

If by ‘inclusive’ you mean not just accepting the gay person but actively promoting the lifestyle as not sinful in action. . .then no. We don’t go around teaching that premarital sex or fornication is a perfectly fine lifestyle. We don’t go around teaching that incest is a perfectly fine lifestyle, or that adultery is perfectly fine lifestyle either. Why on earth would the Catholic Church teach that homosexual actions (as opposed to inclinations) are ‘perfectly fine’? That’s a type of ‘inclusion’ that Christians cannot in good conscience support.

Who said “perfectly fine”? Why are you quoting that?

We are talking about this one parade.

You’ll be gone soon as well? I think you were already gone and resurrected, you know way too much.
Umm I’d eat my hat if you weren’t the one who was having a tantrum over God and His Church not wanting any part of the sin of homosexual acts. How would you even know what the reason stated for his banning was? Something smells fishy.

You must realize that the manner in which this “other” person said things is what got “him/her” banned. There are many here who don’t agree with the majority of Catholics, yet they haven’t been banned… just look around the forums and you’ll see that these boards are as fair as the Catholic Church is.

What’s yours?

It is a discussion thread about the presence of a Catholic priest in a Gay Pride parade. Can people come here and say that his presence was ok by them, or not? Why do non-Catholics get questioned here about sinister motivations when the thread is CLEARLY controversial and polarizing?

Well, I have to say that it was certainly okay by me. And I’m sure that most Gay people have been subjected to enough moralizing and finger wagging so if a true Christian, one who practices charity, comes into their lives, they probably are very welcoming of them.
And you’re correct the thread is controversial, some folks, like me, are baffled by the hatred of the Gay community, others are fine with it.

Why in the world do you guys keep saying that we hate the gay community??? What we hate is the promotion of sin! Did the priest promote the sin by walking in the parade? What message was it bringing to those watching the parade?

What I would have thought had I seen him is that he was promoting that lifestyle, whether that was what he meant to do or not. I have a pretty good notion that most of those who were watching and involved in the parade probably thought the same thing. What the priest did was scandalous, not necessarily because he meant it to be as we don’t necessarily know what was in his thoughts when he was parading, but yes, scandal is a sin.
