Clinton Up 6 on Trump in Two-Way Race in Bloomberg National Poll

Trump has sabotaged his own chances much more than anything else. He is not a politician. It is his election to lose - and he is making a fine job of it. The fact that he is still within striking distance with three months to go, given his negatives and the massive effort against him - left and right establishment, media, Hollywood - says it all. Can you imagine where a competent GOP candidate like Rubio would be now in the polls - 10-20% up or something, my guess.

I don’t think it’s time to drop the curtains on ole Trump, but it is close. If I were a Clinton supporter I would be feeling pretty good right now. The only thing is this is such a strange election cycle - I really don’t think you can compare it to anything else. It is completely reasonable to believe Clinton has it; I am kind of curious to see though if that is the case; a few weeks of the country thinking it’s over could be the best thing that ever happened to the Trump campaign. The last gift that saves him.
I don’t know if Rubio would be winning by 10-20%, but I do think he’d be winning provided he didn’t have any more meltdowns like repeating himself in the one Republican debate.

I saw a great video on RedState with an actor playing Abraham Lincoln talking about how bad the two candidates were and we should consider Gary Johnson. The best part was they had Clinton wearing a NASCAR racing suit with all of her ‘corporate’ sponsors on it. Totally cracked me up. You can almost see her getting champagne poured on her head as she struggles to remember to thank all of sponsors when she wins the presidency.

Indeed…and just exactly when and how did belonging to the herd (corporate, media, and/or otherwise) become so drop dead cool? 😃

This article has some good points - it is not over. Also I do think if Trump stays in the fight with Clinton, all this nonsense about being bigots, who is helping blacks, etc. it could actually shake things up. Remember, no one has ever really challenged the Democrats from this angle before - and there is a lot of truth to it. The Democrats these days survive on myths that are inculcated through social and institutional pressure - there are lot of holes under the surface, big ones. (the holes on the GOP side are already wide open - let’s even the playing field is my point)

Trump hurt himself today with the Dwayne Wade twitter post. I can’t really see any African American looking at that twitter and not saying to themselves that there is something seriously wrong with Donald.

Doesn’t matter if you are black or white, if the election comes down to Trump’s twitter feed, Clinton wins. If it is about where the country is after 8 years of Obama and where we are headed, I say Trump takes it. That is where the key battle is being waged - over the narrative, what captures people’s attention, what people see through and what they don’t. Obama won this over Romney handily; will Clinton win it over Trump?

If you are African American and get a load of Trump’s twitter feed today, then I think all the outreach to blacks this week is lost. Unless it wasn’t an outreach to blacks. Some on the left have suggested that it was more dog whistles to the white voters. I don’t agree. I think Trump really thinks he is appealing to black voters, but is so clumsy, he doesn’t realize he comes across as offensive.

The instant anger to President Barack Obama’s statement about the Orlando attack reflects a deep and growing distrust over how this administration responds to the threat of global terrorism. In his remarks, Obama was quick to renew the call for more gun control legislation and restrictions, saying:
The shooter was apparently armed with a handgun and a powerful assault rifle. This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be.dailysignal.com/2016/06/12/obamas-shameful-pivot-to-gun-control-after-orlando/
Trump is in good company - remember Barack Obama on the Orlando nightclub terrorist attack (don’t forget the pitch for BLM at the cops’ funeral in Dallas either - another absolute classic from him).

I do agree though that I have yet to see Obama talk about violence in the black communities of Chicago, on twitter or anywhere. And I don’t deny that Trump has probably stepped in it again. I am just not sure it matters anymore, either side. Stepping in it is the new norm. We are rarely out of it.

If it was not a dog whistle but sincere, why didn’t he address blacks directly, instead of an almost all white audience? Apparently he has turned down several invites to speak to black audiences in the past.

My take:
At best it was a sincere outreach AND a dog whistle.
At worst it was just a dog whistle, period.

I guess he is nervous about making whites with college degrees think that he is not a racist. He seems to have lost especially white college educated women.

Hillary is the first Democratic candidate who leads among white college educated women since – Truman.

He turned down to speak at the NAACP and an organisation for Black and Hispanic journalists. I’m not sure about any others. I don’t know if you’ve seen any coverage of that journalist event where Hillary Clinton spoke, but note the clapping over and over again. What does that mean? This was the event where Clinton said she “short circuited.”

Jason Riley (who himself is Black) thinks it was a “Smart Move” for Trump to turn down attending the NAACP: wsj.com/articles/trump-turned-down-the-naacps-invitation-smart-move-1471992053

I could be wrong but I think I recall Eboni Williams on Fox News pointed out that that journalists group is more Democratic leaning. Would attending such an event help Trump? I guess Trump and his campaign thought no and he did not attend.

Again I could be wrong but I think I recall somebody on Fox News saying Trump has met with groups primarily made up of Black and Hispanic people I believe three times within the last week or something. These were not campaign rallies but these were meetings.

Why do you think that?
Because you normally do not cheer a tragedy and then say the victims of the tragedy will vote for you. Sort of like Al Gore tweeting after 9-11: “Told you so. I’ll win in 2004.”

“Cheering a tragedy”? I think that is an overstatement. He seems to have been making a point about violence in Chicago etc. which he has been talking about in various speeches. Could the tweet have been worded better, yes, but I don’t think he was cheering a Mother being gunned down.

If you are right, then I guess Trump will do well with black voters.

He may not have been cheering, but he appeared to be oblivious to the pain this death has caused.

If Clinton can’t get 90% of the Black vote, she is in trouble. And that’s even with fairly decent turnout.

I hope that Trump can make his way into the Democrat base. Clearly, a lot of Democrats do not agree with parts of the party platform.

Keep dreaming.

I watched some of a Fox interview with Boris Epsteyn who is part of Trump’s campaign and he said Trump would be going to Detroit and inner cities. Time will tell how well Trump does with Black voters but he does seem to be making an effort to try and reach out. In a Florida Atlantic University poll that recently came out, Trump got 20% from Black voters: realclearpolitics.com/docs/2016/FAU_Florida_August.pdf

The recent Monmouth poll in Florida showed that blacks supported Clinton 91-5 and the CBS poll had it 85-4. The poll you mention seemed to oversample black Republican and Independent voters significantly (36% vs. just 18% of the Florida population) and is massively out of whack with the other polls, so I think we’re dealing with an outlier, if not outright flawed poll.

He is not reaching out to black voters. He is trying to get white voters either on the fence about him or those against him to think he cares about black voters. He does very well with whites without college degrees. He is underperforming among whites with college degrees though. Or if he is trying to make an effort, he isn’t pitching it well.
