if u believe control is the answer, please explain how drunk drivin laws has stopped drunk drivers??

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, EVERY DAY, 36 adults or children die and nearly 600 are injured due to accidents caused by drunk driving. 13,140 deaths a year….219,000 injuries.
It is already illegal to drive drunk , just as it is already illegal to shoot people. Therefore following the twisted “logic”(?) of the anti-gun people to ban guns, we should ban alcohol as well. (seems like that was tried once before)
This is why I proposed giving to get. The left wants more gun control, so we give them that if they are willing to give us a proportionate gain.

Yea, the one at the mall, and this one at the school, both ended the sprees; when they turned their guns on themselves.

Edited to add: Didn’t the guy in the theater also kill himself?
The solution is not to force everyone to sit helplessly and wait for the guy to kill himself. It isn’t to hope the police show up before he kills anyone else.

Btw, the guy at the mall in Oregon killed himself when he saw a citizen pointing a gun at him.

So, do we legalize drinking and driving? That would only create a larger problem. Solutions may not completely stop a problem, but we have to slow the leak the best we can.
Try inserting “abortions” where “drinking and driving” is in that argument and you will have the argument for over-turning Roe VS Wade. 🙂

Do you think the principal or district superintendent of the school should have any say in the matter of whether their employees, including teachers and other staff, are armed or not?

I know, in this incident, the principal was also tragically murdered, so no one need bring up that point.
Private school, yes. Public school, no.

I’m back… Gun range was closed due to high water

So tell us why you believe its “eye for eye” and thus against “Bible teaching”, for a teacher to shoot and kill a man killing children?

.
Twisting still? There is no honest discussion when one twists what another says to be something that was not said. It’s not worth it with people who insist on dishonest discussion tactics. I won’t be responding to you.

Why? Is there not legitimate authorities to carry out protection of society? This was not a police action that killed these children. It was a single individual gone wrong.
Yep… calling 911 worked out real well.

LOL

.

Excuse me, those figures are so out of date, they were sent to me by a friend.

In 2011, 31,224 died from handgun shootings in the USA, and over 66,000 people were injured.
Are you in the middle of a civil war or something over there?

With less than 5% of the world’s population, the United States is home to roughly 35–50 per cent of the world’s civilian-owned guns, heavily skewing the global geography of firearms and any relative comparison.

(Source: UNODC)
Innocent deaths from guns are terrible but Professor of criminology at Florida State University did research and found guns prevent estimated 6849 crimes per day, 2.5 million crimes annually and that every day 1100 murders, 5200 other violent and 550 rapes per day are prevented by showing a handgun, less than 0.9% of that time a gun is fired

US department of Justice, Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, ‘Rape Victimization in 26 American Cities, 1979’ said of the 2500000 yearly self defense cases using guns, more than 7.7% were by women against sex abuse defending themselves

Ownership of guns saves more lives overall than guns kill, by a massive margin. In 2011 guns killed as many as were saved by self defense using a gun in less than 1 month

And nothing gets accomplished, because we shadow every issue with another issue?

That’s why people doubt the validity of some of those espousing pro life. They say pro life and then fight for gun control, the death penalty, war, etc. It’s not projecting total pro life for everyone from conception to natural death.

Still no response to the Biblical commentaries provided on the passage you attempted to use as pro gun right scriptures?

In the current incident, Adam Lanza also killed himself. Unbalanced people in these situations often do so regardless of whether someone is pointing a gun at them or not. The anger they display is associated with depression, and is turned BOTH inward and outward.

We didn’t have policemen posted at the school, but that would mean larger government. You’re ability to LOL in this discussion is disgusting, in my opinion. As another poster said, ‘welcome to St. Ignore.’

The guy at the mall probably did it because he knew it was over. It is likely that he would have continued until he was out of ammo if he saw no threat.

Good move.

You can’t respond to me, because you’re unable to either logically or morally defend your positions.

absolutely not. the point bein, is just because there is a law to protect us, doesn’t mean that there isnt thousands of people out there who are NOT afraid of any laws!!
This is why I proposed giving to get. The left wants more gun control, so we give them that if they are willing to give us a proportionate gain.
if u trust our Gov’t to stand behind any word they give, than I need to sell u some ocean front property here in Atlanta Ga!! 😉

It’s not a fact, but a supposition by someone who said he was pointing a gun at the gunman.

This thread does make matters look nearly hopeless…no one wants to even seriously consider a compromise. Very sad imo.

The all-or-nothing approach does not work.

The left understands this, and they are very disciplined about taking any little successes they get for a number of their agendas. The right is entrenched in an all-or-nothing mentality.

Prodigal Son: Is there not legitimate authorities to carry out protection of society?

Yeah calling 911 worked out real well.😃

Aby, a lot of laws in the U.S. are passed AFTER the fact. Who knows what the stats would be had they not passed the laws they did? Politicians always react, sometimes in good ways, and most of the time, not.

Yesterday, I turned on the radio to listen to Rush Limbaugh. It wasn’t five seconds before he came up with some line about “Watch the liberals try to blame this on Republicans or guns.” Like that should be the focus of the discussion. And his callers seemed to be on his side. Where’s the compassion for the slain children or for their parents or for their friends? Why more concern for weapons in the other side of the world than right here at home? And then they wonder why all the people don’t vote for all the Republicans.
Within minutes of the tragedy there were liberals posting on twitter that guns needed to be banned, that there need to be stricter gun control laws, attacking the NRA etc. People are using the Connecticut shooting for political purposes

Democrat Rep Jerrold Nadler said regarding gun control

I think we will be there if the president exploits it, and otherwise we’ll go on to the next
