I always thought that a combo of Gregorian Chant with a Metal track would be cool.
The above mentioned Fr. Stan blended Gregorian Chant with RAP on “School of the Eucharist” - and I keep “borrowing” my son’s Phat Mass Compilation CD to listen to that song, over and over…

I know of a great Catholic band. Only one of their songs could really be considered heavy medal though. Listen to their songs online at www.sevensorrows.com. Try listening to Tragic Ignorance. Read the lyrics while you are listening. Tell me what you think.

Anyone familiar with the music of Father Stan Fortuna? He’s a Franciscan Friar who does awesome Catholic rap. Thats right: RAP. He also does soft rock and jazzy hip hop type stuff, among others. He is so offbeat and dynamic for a priest; and Martin Sheen loves his music. His stuff can be bought at Francescoproductions.com
Yeah Fr. Stan is a really cool guy, does awesome things for the church and the youth, he is super talented and uses his gifts…he has some good rap…but then some really bad too. My mom (55) listens to him and it is soo funny (cause all she listens to is oldies but goodies) and she used to always put in his song “zipper zone” and say…this is a good song and good message…hehehe

“Your body is the Lord’s, Your body is not your own,
the media has a bad plan, to drag you down to the zipper zone.” it is so funny, you can’t even take is seriously. I know it is written for youth, but I don’t think youth could stop laughing.

I tried this last night, but for some reason it didn’t make the complete trip.

I know that one doesn’t usually think of Catholics and country music in the same mental breath, but does anyone know if any of the current artists (using the term loosely) are Catholic?

Hey Dave,

There is a great Catholic Artist, Mark Mallet, whose style could very easily be categorized as “Country”. I have his Deliver Me From Me CD and also Through Her Eyes, his Rosary project.

I highly recommend him - especially if you like country music. Now this is not your “foot-stompin’ good ol’ boy variety”, but the light & easy relaxed country sound. I haven’t followed country music for a long while but just thinking of the guys I remember from back in the day, I would compare him loosely to Steve Wariner (one of his influences), Don Williams (the ‘Gentle Giant’), maybe Randy Travis (although not as “down home”)…

But don’t take my word for it, check out the mp3 samples on his web site!

Do you mean Catholic music artist with a country style? Or do you mean country artists who are actually Catholic?

I think he means more along the lines of Country music singers who happen to also be Catholic.

It me, whether he is referring to a Catholic Country aritst or a Country Catholic aritst, the difference will definately be the content of his celection of songs.

For another artist who is Catholic and plays Country flavored Catholic music, you can add Denis Grady and Katrina Rae. Inthe case of Katrina, she actually had a few country songs to hit Billboards Top 100 Coutnry SIngles in the 1980’s. I don’t believe she ever broke into the Top 40, but she charted nevertheless.

I net her last year when she gave a performance just before my eye surgery. She gave me a bookmark and signed it for me.

This guy just came out matthew buchanan . his voice kinda sounds country to me…but I don’t know country…hehehe

just pray for catholic music/artists…that people will follow their calling and not just fall into the secular or protestant world.

Can anyone suggest Catholic music artists? I am unfamiliar with the artists in this field and would appreciate anyones help. I do hvae a Michael Talbot CD “Table Of Plenty” and enjoy it tremendously.

A couple of CD’s I have are Vince Ambrosetti, and Daniel O’donnel (not sure of spelling, it’s in my van). I think they are pretty good. We got them at our local Catholic book store. Hope that helps.

The Dameans are the best CAtholic singers you will ever find…I promise you. You can find their CD’s at Gia Publications online…get “The Best of the Dameans” Vol. 1 and Vol. 2

I am so sure you will thoroughly enjoy their CD’s, that I will buy them from you if you are dissapointed.

Jacob and Matthew are good, though I think they are a local band for me, and I don’t know how easy finding a CD will be for you

Have a listen to the music of Cornerstone Music. They are a group who formed from members of my local parish and have now produced a CD of original songs.

Their web site is here: jsound.com.au/cornerstone.htm
There are some samples of songs on that site.

The information only talks about selling it in Australia but if you contact them they will probably be happy to send it internationally.

Does anyone know of any good Catholic music sites? Midi, whatever? I have found one but it has very few midis on it and I was just wondering if anyone has had luck with finding any other good sites?

thanks 🙂

Bob’s --www.tc.umn.edu/~sorem002/hymn_midi.html

Texas Midi --members.tripod.com/texasmidi/midi.htm
abc’s --www.abcsoffaith.com/html/sound.html

Haven’t tried all of these. I seem to remember Texas Midi was pretty good. Some of the ones I used to know have vanished.

thanks for the sites, I’ve been having fun listening all morning to great midis while I do my house work, I appreciate you sharing the sites you’ve found 😃
