Scott Waddell:
As a bass player it is pretty hard not to like fusion like Weather Report and bassist Jaco.

In prog rock I like Chris Squire, Tony Levin and FK bassman Jonas Reingold (A Jaco clone, but a *good * Jaco clone.)

Other bassists would be Geddy Lee, Steve Harris of Iron Maiden (gasp!).

Scott
Here, here!!!

I’ll have to take your word on Steve Harris 😉 (Although, it just so happens they were playing some Maiden on Aural Moon last night)…

I actually talked to a guy about making me a “stick” after I saw Levin on the “Pieces of the Sun” tour… But I “came to my senses” before anything developed… I was listening to alot of Trey Gunn at the time and had just see him do Deception of the Thrush live on the KC Level Five tour…

By the way if fellicia’s still checking out this thread, Tony Levin played on Kevin Max’s Stereotype Be which was produced by Adrian Belew (Talking Heads, Crimson, et al) - Tori Amos’ drummer was also in the lineup… Max isn’t Catholic as far as I can tell, but he’s “Catholic Friendly”… Didn’t The Holy Father pay DC Talk a compliment once???

Anyway, I’m a huge Yes/Squire fan and Jaco/Weather Report fan too… I see Yes virtually every time they come to town (I actually saw them last time they were in Auburn Hills)…

Grace & Peace

Well i don’t sing about catholic themes outright but they are there. But that’s more because i love for people to look for the meaning in songs.🙂

LIke this one:

Everything has come undone
the sparks are in the flame
the fire has burned for 2000 yrs and it doesn’t want to change
the heat it gives warms a life when a
breathing heart seeks to put it out
unknowingly fanning the flame
fighting not to go out

chorus:
They are not held for all the things they don’t know
A heart set in stone but a mind filled up with clay
it can be molded to hold all of the truth
but will it be so X2

Nothing will be the same
and now i am changed
the fire will last for 2000 more
an will never ever change
The light it gives fills the world
a breathing heart will inhale the the heat
knowingly building the flame
Fighting not to go out.

Chorus

So what’s that about?

When i was in school,94, we were sorta a prog band. 12 minute songs with 10 key changes, all that stuff. Now i record solo. PLay all the instument’s and program the beats. I just really hate my voice.😃 SO if anyone wants to take a stab at singing some catholic lyrics over my stuff. Your welcome to it.

Well with that invitation, what’s it sound like. Well, alternative is the easiest way to describe it.

Does anyone know where i could host some of the songs in case someone is interested?

Any “zig-zag” time signatures???

This site has an internet catholic radio. It features bands from around the world. You need realone player to listen.

Peace,
Jen
Yeah we can’t get played on that station or on their site cause we don’t “sell” our cd (and that is what their site is all about)…so I guess if they can’t make money off us, then they don’t want to help us.

A bit off topic - at a supper club the other evening, a hip hop band was playing. A guy had an instrument that had many strings (not close enough to count with these 40 year old eyes) - and seemed to make guitar chord sounds when the strings were tapped - when I described this my son said “yeah, that is a stick”. Am I just way out of it?

Aren’t those sticks like $3000? Too rich for my blood.

I saw Yes the last time they were in America. They played much better than on my Symphonic Yes DVD since they didn’t have that orchestra dogging their tempos. 😃

No, you’re not “way out of it”… But maybe I’m “way out of it”! A “hip-hop” band w/ a stick??? We’ll at any rate I’m impressed… And impressed that your son knew what a “stick” was…

WOAH! I was like, going through all the posts and didn’t see a single one that had the site spiritandsong.com, which plays Catholic artists only. They don’t have much selection, but it’s all classic, great and good for Catholic teens like me, sometimes having a song themed to the liturgical year!

My favourites are Curtis Stephan, Sarah Heart, Matt Maher, John Michael Talbot, and Seven Sorrows. We need more Catholic music!

He is Catholic. Has been all his life. I wouldn’t describe his new CD as relaxing. It’s more rock to a little hard rock. Which is why I mentioned him here in this thread. Fellicia might like his music.

Peace,
Jen
Yeah I think his music great…Shame though…there is only good Catholic music writers in the USA and none in England where I am 😦

Keep checking back with us for our new stuff.

Spirit and Song does have music…but again, we can’t get on there…cause spirit and song is hooked up with Oregon Catholic Press…so they only put bands on there that they make money off of…so we can’t get on. and lifeteen only plays spirit and song music on their site.

For the little ones, you might like to have a look at:

patamb.supanet.com/

Catholic songs for children on a range of themes. With free sheet music & free download.

Suitable for younger children.

Everyone should check out Father Stan Fortuna, he’s a rapping Franciscan priest. He’s most certainly does not beat around the bush when it comes to what he believes.
In “Never Been Born,” he raps, "Mama you was wrong. I know you wasn’t strong. You can say ya sorry. You can be forgiven. I’m in heaven. I’m still livin’ with perfect love. The kind you couldn’t give me. The kind that you receive. It’s a gift from up above.”

I saw him perform this song live on Halloween in downtown Salem, Mass. You can read more about it in a newspaper article - “Salem ‘Saint Fest’ restores Christian message to Halloween” at rcab.org/Pilot/2004/ps041105/saintfest.html. I’m not a big fan of rap, but I am a big fan of Father Stan. His website is francescoproductions.com/.

I also know there are Catholic concerts every year in Massachusetts called “Proud 2B Catholic,” and I know the man in charge of them, Peter Campbell, wants to expand and offer Catholic concerts all over the country. Right now there is one scheduled in Pennsylvania. He was also in charge of Saint Fest. For more information, visit proud2bcatholic.com/.

Finally, I came across another Catholic music site while I was looking up this other information, troubadourforthelord.com/index.html.

I hope that helps. God bless.

Hi fellicia,

All the tunes on my site are free to download. I am recording a CD in a few months and have published most of the demo tracks. When the CD is finished, those will be free also.

I write using scripture text (NAB) for lyrical inspiration. The music is modern. The full band production will end up being something like Alternative - not too heavy, not too soft.

Hope you like them!

:bounce: Well that sucks… but DO play more music out there! I’m soo glad that there are people who wanna shou their faith through music, and to show that skill, their gift into the ministry is a great blessing. We’ll probably never rival the protestant praise and worship, but we have to strive on! :bounce:

:bounce: BTW, I love your music! You all are beautiful blessings of God! May Our Lady of Lourdes pray for all of you! :bounce:

Anyone familiar with the music of Father Stan Fortuna? He’s a Franciscan Friar who does awesome Catholic rap. Thats right: RAP. He also does soft rock and jazzy hip hop type stuff, among others. He is so offbeat and dynamic for a priest; and Martin Sheen loves his music. His stuff can be bought at Francescoproductions.comfrancescoproductions.com/tristano/scola-tristano.jpg
I heard Fr Stan on “Life on the Rock” and have been meaning to check out his stuff ever since… Maybe I’ll take your advice and visit Francescoproductions.com soon…

👍
