Just thought I’d check and see who listens to contemporary Catholic music and what everybody’s favorites are. I have to say my favorite is definitely Steve Angrisano. Though I have recently found Sara Hart and I’m diggin her stuff.

I have some rap by The Apologist. I’m also gonna buy the PhatMass CD. It sounds good.

I think I’m going to have to check out Fr. Stan. Do you have a suggestion for a good one of his to start with?

The two CDs to check out are entitled
“First Collection” and “Second Collection”
They don’t have much rap on them compared to some of the other CDs…but I CAN accept Catholic Rap!

No I don’t’ probably never will !, I don’t listen to secular music either I listen to Catholic Family Radio !!!

I listen to Christian radio, only because it’s more readily available than Catholic. Actually it’s kind of thought-provoking to consider how some lyrics are not theologically sound. I’ve had a few very good conversations with my fiance (also Catholic) about certain songs.

I don’t know if this is the right forum for this question. I was wondering if anyone knew of any Christian/Catholic “Pop” music? I occasionaly hear rather malencol Christian music at my aunts. Is there any Catholic Pop/Rap/Rock/ect. music out there to be heard for the benifeit of my generation?

Well, there isn’t alot for the Catholic population in terms of modern music, since when it comes to using Praise and Worship, we merely borrow from our Protestant brethren ;).

A wonderful singer in whom you should be able to find music of is Matt Maher (a Canadian too!!). He is a supporter and worker for the Lifeteen organisation in the USA which I say, makes me impressed.

Then, for rock there is Seven Sorrows.

For a Catholic singer, Rachael Lampa (a Charismatic) is abit too generic in her music for my taste, despite her ecumenical lyrics, but she seems to be the only one thriving in the Protestant industry for contemporary music.

Enjoy 🙂

I started listening to Christian Music on the radio and also wanted to find more Catholic artists. One problem I have with the Protestant focus of Christian radio stations is that there is too often anti-Catholic preachiing. I like the music, but usually turn the channel when the preaching comes on.

You can find also find Catholic music on CD Baby - type Catholic in the search field.

There are some really amzing musicians out there. Music that inspires, and enriches our Catholic beliefs. I was just wondering what everyone else is listening to.
My favorites are:
Matt Maher
Steve Angrasino
Sarah Hart
Joshua Blakesly
Tom Booth
John Michael Poier
Roc O’ Connor

John Michael Talbot
The Daughters of St Paul CD’s are awesome!
Rich Mullins (he was a couple of weeks from coming in to full communion when killed in car crash)

I am listening to some Matt Maher as I type this post. He is great! I am also a fan of:
Crispin (Lead singer Daniel diSilva is also great on his own)
Danielle Rose
Janelle

Not “Christian” artists, per say, but artists who quite often sing about Christ and God:

Ben Harper (whose song “Power of the Gospel” made me weep the first time I heard it on his live album called “Live From Mars”)

and …

Joseph Arthur (I strongly recommend his album called “Redemption’s Son”).

Well, Seven Sorrows probably takes the lead as my favorite Catholic band, with Danielle Rose coming in a close second. For generic Christian bands, it would be DC Talk, Jars of Clay, Sonicflood, Newsboys, ect.

Yours in Christ,
Thursday
