John Michael Talbot.

His voice - those words… soul touching!

I do like some chant. I have no idea what the difference is in each kind. I thought a chant was a chant… until I found CAF - then I realized that there are different ones.

just picked up “backyard galaxy”, and I’am trying “critical mass”.🙂 both pop rock with a little kick.

Well, I used to listen to a lot of rock and metal and now I just can’t stand it. That music used to seem so cool to me and now I realize it just made me angry, depressed, and kind of nihilistic.

But…I’m very interested in more religious music. Because God has become very important to me now and I want to listen to music that will uplift me and help my faith instead of making me depressed for the sake of being “cool”. I’m not in highschool anymore and I don’t have the pressure on me I used to, plus I now have a deep love of God, Mary, and Jesus and all the saints.

I’m especially curious if there’s any bands or certain songs that honor The Virgin Mary. I feel very close to her.

Thanks for any help!🙂

Catholic music that I like includes albums by Eric Genuis (modern classical), Mark Mallett (mexican gospel), and John Michael Talbot (easy listening).

I also like Gregorian Chant and Polyphonic Motets. 🙂

There is tons of really good stuff out there, of all different kinds. There is even Catholic rock - a friend of mine, Scott Kelly, just recently released his first album of Catholic rock music.

Hey gang,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good spot to get contemorary Catholic music? I have been going here: www.spiritandsong.com

It is pretty good, but I like to have options. Does anybody know a good place to go?

Thanks!

Brad

I don’t listen to much christian contemporary music so it’s hard to keep up on any good Catholic artists. The only site I know is the one you know. I haven’t purchased anything from them, but know them because of Chris Muglia, who is a Catholic singer/songwriter. Very talented guy. He came to our church for a concert and I ended up buying one of his CDs.
I’ll soon buy more of his, probably through that site. I really recommend his CD “Innocence”.

Another person whose music I listen to is John Michael Talbot.
Read his biography here: johnmichaeltalbot.com/Biography/
He has about a thousand albums or at least it seems that way.

A great non-contemporary CD I will recommend is the Byrd Masses for 3,4,5 voices Ave Verum by The Hilliard Ensemble.
Fantastic.

If you are looking to buy music, you can go to Franciscan University bookstore’s website - they sell all types of Catholic music, and contemporary Christian music as well.

Also, a recommendation to three artists -

Matt Maher
Katie Rose (she’s a former student that you can find on Franciscan’s website, but such an amazing voice and beautiful music!)
Switchfoot

Try the band Romans. They are awesome!!! I bought several of their CDs on amazon.com… they have their own website as well. They are faithful to the magisterium and say so on their CD cover. The CD I love the best is called “High Fidelity.” 👍

Very nice. Thanks for sharing! I went to Streaming Music toward the bottom on the right and clicked on Windows Media Player and listened to Ancient Faith Radio. I really like it and will be a regular listener. Thanks again:)

Ditto! Great site! Thanks.
No problem at all! Enjoy the glorious music! 🙂

As with everything else, even Christmas music is becoming secularized and sensitized. Does anyone know of any decent CDs with Christmas music by Catholic artists and on Catholic labels?

Other than that, I am also looking for classic Christmas music performed by the great performers of the 50s-70s.

My grandmother is (again) organizing our family Christmas party and I am going to help her find some decent Christmas music for the party.

Thanks for the suggestions!

CDs & individual songs (artist included, of course) are welcomed1
