Well, this may not be what you are looking for, but I like Nick Alexander’s two parody albums. He takes good old rock n roll songs and makes them fully Catholic. Some are just laugh-out-loud funny, and most will get your toes tapping, if not dancing around the room.

Some favorites, Transubstantiatian, to the tune of the Beatles Revolution, Therese of Lisieux, to the tune of Electric Avenue and We Want to Stand United, to the tune of We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel.

Just my :twocents:

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I really appreciate them. I will check them out.

YES!

a friend of mine, Jesse Manibusan, whom I met when he was doing the music (as a volunteer) at the Young, Single Adult retreats that I went to in the mid-80’s at San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville, CA. Since then, his ministry with music has burgeoned!!

He has REAL toe-tapping as well as slower, deeper music.

His CD’s are listed here:

I’d recommend his CD titled “Power of Peace” for the CD of his that has the most of the kind of energy that I think you’re looking for in a song to sing along with while driving:

jessemanibusan.com/index.php?module=pncommerce&func=itemview&ItemID=2

A really good toe-tapping one having a lot of strong energy is:

“God is Bigger”

found on his CD:
Jesse & Friends: Live and Still Breathing

and the rap song – Another Day (from the CD of the same name and other of his CD’s)

specifically Catholic (?) is his song titled “Eleison” – also on the Another Day CD.

How about a rocking tune to songs like “Now Thank We All Our God” == and other familiar “Catholic” songs…

The New Rock of Our Faith…

You’ve never heard anything like this!

“FR. KRZYSZTOF WTOREK & THE HAPPY CHILDREN” brings together traditional Catholic hymns with a new rock and disco beat!

Teenage members of the parish make up the central part of the CD’s voices, who sing under the direction of Fr. Wtorek, an associate pastor at St. Rose of Lima, Haddon Heights, New Jersey, USA (Diocese of Camden).

You can hear Fr. Wtorek and the Happy Children perform live on the third Sunday of every month at the parish’s 6:30 pm Mass. For information and directions, call the rectory at (609) 547-2512.

I am in a Catholic band called Seven Sorrows and we actually started for the same reason…we search for hours on hours to find a good Catholic band that we liked…

You can listen and download all our songs for free…they go from slow rock, to hardcore and everything in between.

God Bless

OK!!! I KNOW SOME!!!

OK,
Matt Maher - both upbeat and slower tunes

Tom Booth - from country to oldies types!!!

Sarah Hart - very beautiful songs. She actually is a personal friend of mine!

Fr. Stan Fortuna - If you like Catholic rap, he is SOOO for you!
I don’t even like rap and I almost cried at one of his songs called “everybody gotta suffer”

Stever Angrisano - very beautiful. he sing “Sweet Redemer!” ahh!

Sonar (band) - also know them personally. Caroline. female lead, is from austrailia. Nate, is a cool guy who sings male lead. and Tom sings harmony. he, actually, is very similar to Matt Maher. wehen the sing, they both make the same facial expresions. LOL I don’t remember the drummers name but he is cool too. Sonar’s first album will come out this July!!! swoon. for booking and order info e-mail them at booking@sonarband.com

A friend of mine tried to go to a christian book store to look for these few artists and they didn’t have a single one, so they are true blur Catholic artists. on one of the web sites above, you can see that matt Maher’s “welcome to life” is number two, I have his cd. IT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!

go to francescoproductions.com and you can look around for Fr. Stan

TTYL
Good luck!!!

Does anyone know of any places online where you can download Catholic music, be it traditional or contemporary, of course one where you pay before you download :)? We are new parents and I definately want good spiritual music to be a part of our family’s life.

peace

Does anyone know of any good Catholic or other Christian artists which would appeal to teens & tweens? We’re looking for something with more of a pop beat. Thanks!

Kids do well when introduced to the classics at an early age. (Maybe 11 is too late!) But why not slip in a little Bach and Palestrina betweeen the pop-rock stuff? We already have two generations of Catholics who have NO idea what their musical heritage is. We’re cutting ourselves off from our roots by pushing a completely pop agenda in music.

Oh, thank you for saying this! I took some heat on another forum when I referred to a particular “modern” hymn as drivel. A friend of mine has the best name for this new school liturgical music: Hallmark Hymns (all sweetness & light, superficial, etc.).

There shold be room for both innovation (as long as it is good) and tradition, but to dismiss tradition the way we have for the past 40 years is very wrong.
