I think many on the libertarian “right” might well agree with Ms. Obama on this. But there’s nothing novel about a mother having the right to snuff out her unborn child - that’s been legal across the country since 1973. Catholics (and others - including Jews) have been making the case for the unborn - the target of that “novel and bizzare idea” as you sarcastically trivialize it. You fall into the euphemism of the left - the “right to make your own choices” means: “right of a mother to kill her unborn child.” Its a phony euphemism designed to divert attention away from what’s really happening.

The “right to love whomever they are in love with” ? So if a 60 year old man is in love with a 13 year old boy, then why not? Bizarre indeed.

Legal for some time, yes, but still novel in the minds of the (non-libertarian) right. The euphemism may be necessary not to shock the opposition. Your gay marriage or civil union analogy is a strawman since it is no doubt non-consensual, as is incest and man-animal intimate relationships. I have no difficulty with polygamy, however, if it is consensual.

I think Michelle Obama tried to keep her speech as bipartisan as possible in tone and substance, despite subtle allusions to the “other side.” She may not have had the guts to use words such as abortion and gay marriage, but she did have the guts to say that women have the right to make their own choices regarding their bodies and their health care and that people have the right to love whomever they are in love with. What novel and bizarre ideas these must be, especially for those on the Right.
Don’t you find it hypocritical to say you want the government to stay out of your private life, but then turn around and expect it to pay for your private life?

What happened at DNC? Lot of platitudes, bashing Mitt Romney. Name 1 idea given to create jobs or to decrease poverty which in 1 in 6 Americans are living in? You can hear over and over how awesome Obama is supposed to be by his wife who of course believes that but this does nothing to help the millions of Americans who are struggling. The disconnect from reality to elude Obama’s economy is in great shape when the debt is $16 trillion and 23 million out of work

She also apparently said, " for Barack, there is no such thing as us and them." That may be the biggest lie of all - Obama has done nothing but try to divide and conquer, pit groups against each other. For Obama its all about us vs. them: Rich vs. poor, Black vs. white, gay vs. heterosexual, male vs. female. Old vs. young. The only way they’ll win is if enough people believe the lies.

I admire your efforts, Abyssinia. But trying to convince some people that the sanctity of life is a christian ideal, is like trying to describe a rainbow to a blind person.

Ishii
Will never stop trying because the unborn deserve to be protected and if it can be shown to 1 person who is in the dark its worth it

You don’t think the GOP has done a rather successful job in pitting groups against each other, such as favoring the rich by means of tax breaks and planning to cut essential programs, for example Medicaid, for the poor? And they haven’t been so good at ingratiating themselves toward gay people either, have they?

Genetic sexual attraction, more states allow bestiality than states that recognize same sex marriage.

Are you referring specifically to contraception or to comprehensive health care? If the latter, I don’t think it’s hypocritical because who nowadays can pay out-of-pocket for prescription drugs, medical exams and surgical procedures with the high cost of health care?

Incest is not necessarily non-consensual. I’m guessing you are okay with it, if it is consensual? Sister and brother? Brother and brother? Mother and adult son? Are these okay, if they are consenting adults?

Well, the Democrats looked pretty unified tonight. I guess they see things quite differently from you.

And please watch the use of the word lie and all its variants…it’s in the forum rules. You may disagree, but calling something a lie that is obviously subjective is out of line.

Why does a political party need to “ingratiate” itself to a group?

Aren’t these examples of incest biologically harmful to themselves and possible offspring? But I’m probably OK with cousins.

Holy smokes! Stop the presses! A political party looked unified at their planned convention! It’s a miracle!!!

If that impresses you, then you are easily impressed. 😛

I don’t think two brothers (one of the pairings I listed 😛 ) or two sisters can have off spring, so you are okay with that? How about the post-menopausal mother with her son? No offspring, so okay?

Merely responding to claims that the President is dividing the country along a load of lines. I dare say that representatives from all the mentioned groups were in the audience tonight.

I think I’ve already expressed my feelings on modern conventions.

It’s unusual for the Democratic Party to appear unified, thinking of past conventions. And the RNC wasn’t actually so unified this year, although the dissenting Ron Paul constituents were hidden from view.

Maybe God inisisted on being dropped from the Dem Platform. Likely He wanted no part of a document endorsing unlimited abortion and same sex marriage.
i think they also dropped being pro-Israel.
